Please put your hands together for Mr. Jamie Campbell!Jamie is a son, a brother, a husband, an actor, a stand-up comic, and he's also my guest for Episode No. 161.Find Jamie at jamiecampbellcomedy.com, on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and where you stream. If you go the YouTube route, be sure to check out his hour-long special, Big Dad Energy, and if you go the social-media route, keep an eye out for not only his upcoming new hour (courtesy of Dry Bar Comedy), but also a handful of movie projects he's got in the works.I enjoyed visiting with a working comic who's skilled in the art of creating specials, touring and gigging, and writing new material. And talking with Jamie in general was a great time. Whilst we visited, we touched on a few of his favorite albums, which were these:The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend (1971)Rancid's Let's Go (1994)Whatever and Ever Amen (1997), Ben Folds FiveOutkast's Aquemini (1998)White Pony (2000), DeftonesMany thanks to Jamie for gifting me some of his valuable time. After a few months in a row of investigating the silly side of nu-metal, we get back to business here with one of the absolute pillars of the genre, it's Deftones' debut "Adrenaline". It's a fascinating conversation because it was one of the first albums that got Bryan into nu-metal, hearing it almost in real-time before Deftones had any other work out, and for John, it was a case of going back and hearing Deftones' fundamental text after getting into them through White Pony and their self-titled. But make no mistake...this thing rips, and Bryan determines after a few re-listens to it for the podcast that it is his favorite album of all-time. It still holds up despite the sketchy vocal production, some primitive riffing, and the band not quite figuring out what their sound was going to be yet. The band also hadn't figured out how they wanted to present themselves in the media yet either, so the articles prove to be a lot more interesting than they would get in the years to come. If you want more interesting content, head on over to our Patreon and support the show! At patreon.com/thepodkast, just $4/month gets you 3 bonus episodes every month, plus immediate access to our Discord and our entire back catalogue of over 150 episodes. And last month was a special one as we did TWO full-length bonuses, covering a female-fronted nu-metal gem in "5:30 Saturday Morning" by Lennon with our friend Adam Christie, and then we ranked the last FIFTY singles we've covered with our pal Lorin from Roach Koach. Not only that, but if you donate at a higher tier, you can tell us what to cover on a bonus episode. It's magic!

It's Episode #85! It's Marc Boerigter! It's Don Denkinger! It's...it's...Shwaggy Roaches!Yes, yes, my friends. Stoney-Doom! was in the house talking band life, Kansas cannabis law reform, and some of that sweet, sweet music. Please give them a follow on the ol' Instagram machine and check out their bandcamp as well, where I'm sure you'll be able to find some sweet snacks for the members of your gang. This was a really fun one to do, and I'm grateful for the time commitment Shwaggy and Bluedream the Great (who kicked it on the couch and didn't get captured on camera) made in order to make it possible. Note: I'm told Doobie Stoopid was otherwise occupied and couldn't make the trek.Anyway, we talked about family and upbringing and concerts and, well...that stoner life. And we of course talked about a few of Shwaggy's favorite records over the years. And those were these:Dirt (1992), Alice in ChainsDeftones's White Pony (2000)Lateralus (2001), ToolMastodon's Crack the Skye (2009)Man on the Moon (2009), Kid CudiSo, go check out Stoney-Doom! And while you're at it, check out the City and Colour cover of "Rain When I Die" by Alice in Chains that we talked about in our conversation. It's breathtaking. You can find it on YouTube as part of the MoPOP Founders Award 2020. Killer stuff.Thank you.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to any of the audio samples contained in this episode. They are all excerpts from a Khruangbin tune called, "Rules - Scientist Dub" which is a bonus track from their Hasta El Cielo (Con Todo El Mundo In Dub) record from 2019, c/o Night Time Stories Ltd under exclusive license to Dead Oceans.

On the 20 year anniversary of Deftones fourth and self titled album I thought it would be interesting to do a special kind of Retro Review episode, this one based around a famous piece of lost media. Eros was supposed to be Deftones sixth album to be potentially released in 2009, however this album was not meant to be. From record companies pushing the band to put out another album like White Pony to pressure the band felt both in work and personal life and eventually a life changing accident of one of the band members that eventually saw this project get put on indefinite hiatus this episode goes into the background of the events leading up to the recording to the accident and even talks about the music that has been made public. Musician James Vincent McMorrow tells Dave about his favourite album 'White Pony' by Deftones.
Christian Joseph dropped by the Badass Records Podcast studio for episode #22, and we discussed his affinity for skin ink, motorcycles, music, and the life of a restaurateur. The man with more middle names than you have professed his love specifically for Morrison Hotel (1970) by The Doors, Guns 'N' Roses's Appetite for Destruction (1987), and White Pony (2003) by Deftones, but that wasn't all we discussed. We talked about live music, professional endeavors, and the challenges that being a family member can sometimes present.Christian is a son, a brother, a father, and the owner of Plate Restaurant Group. He and I go back about eight or nine years, and have seldom passed up an opportunity to crack wise with one another. Twenty years of interviewing fabulous musicians is no mean feat and I thought it deserved some kind of celebration, or at least to be marked in history for posterity. So, I've recorded Cat o' Nine Tales; 9 special episodes of CATtales to look back on those early encounters where the recordings of the interviews no longer survive and the details only remain in written form. After introducing my guest, I'll give you a link address to read the interview and play some of their key hits for you to listen to whilst you enjoy it. Thank you to you the listeners and my fabulous guests for your support over the years, I hope you enjoy these special 9 tales... Tale 4: Roddy Frame is an absolute delight. It's rare for a performer armed only with an acoustic guitar to create a sound which could be mistaken for ten men and his charismatic stage-presence completely captivates any audience. This style of performance is a long cry from Roddy's days with Aztec Camera who came to prominence in the early eighties and it's many years since he became an acclaimed solo artist performing acoustic tracks under his own name. This tale dates back to July 31st 2003, visit CATtales.co.uk/117 for the one with Roddy Frame and sit back and enjoy these tunes. The tracks featured are: Good Morning Britain, Somewhere in my Heart, Oblivious, White Pony and all I Need Is Everything. Visit roddyframe.com for more information on Roddy and to listen to this again and to other tales, visit CATtales.co.uk.

Spinning Out (another music podcast) We talk to artists about their favorite albums and go on wild tangents. Today we're talking with Devin McKnight, of the band Maneka about the Deftones' third album "White Pony," and about what nu-metal holds up and what is and isn't nu-metal. We also talk about having complicated relationships with friends and how to navigate that as an adult. Maneka has a new album coming out on 3/11 titled "Dark Matter." You can preorder a copy now from the band or from their label, Skeletal Lightning. https://maneka.bandcamp.com/album/dark-matters

Originally posted August 29th on https://www.patreon.com/riotactpodcast As part of our second anniversary celebrations last year, we turned Rioteers Review on ourselves for the first (and last) time. Steve and Remfry are discussing Overton Progessive Melodic Noisecore band Stegal, the 2001 debut full-length album fronted by a certain Mr. Stephen 'Bri' Hill. A searing amalgam of Deftones' White Pony and Converge's Jane Doe (sort of), Stegal garnered a reputation for being the most annoying band in Overton, pissing off their contemporaries with their antagonistic ways and stage-wrecking antics. Picking up a physical copy of Angharod these days is nigh on impossible, with some enterprising entrepreneurs attempting to sell second-hand copies of the scarce record for £99 (although rumours persist that a box of around 200 copies are gathering dust in the house of one of the band members). Criminally, Angharod never received a vinyl release, forever destined to remain a collectible curio amongst fans of people who get far too angry about pop-punk and cult music podcasts. It's the episode that many of you have been waiting for, as we finally cover what is considered to be nu-metal's magnum opus, "White Pony". Coming out in the year 2000, it's easy to see how this album was the end of the first wave of nu-metal and ushered in the second wave, no matter how short-lived it was. We examine how Deftones approached making this album, from Chino being very concerned about changing the band's direction, to the in-fighting, to how Tony Hawk's Pro Skater almost derailed the recording entirely. We also find time to talk about seeing Deftones live, this album's lasting legacy, Stef Carpenter's recent pivot to being a conspiracy theory guy, and include a mini-review of their 20th anniversary remix album, "Black Stallion". One thing that's no conspiracy is the bonus content we're releasing every month over at https://patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every month, one full-length album review and two mini singles reviews. We just posted our first-ever video episode where we take a look at the videos of Marilyn Manson with Lydia Burrell, and this month, we finally tackle Fieldy's unwieldy hip-hop album, "Rock 'n Roll Gangster". Plus, we just launched the POD Kast Discord, where you can finally get the chance to chat nu-metal with people who still love it, like us. Sign up now!
Quarantine catch-up for the week: A senior in the Israeli space program makes claims that aliens are here but we're just not ready for them. The house votes to repeal the federal prohibition of cannabis, The Deftones landmark record, White Pony turns 20 and we talk about the remixes accompanying the reissue and finally we talk Dune and why Warner Bros. decided to release their entire 2021 slate to new streaming platform, HBO Max. Arguably the last surviving band of the nu-metal era, we discuss how Deftones was unique for it's time and still is today, and how White Pony solidified them as the outliers in that crowd.
On this episode of the Into the Void music podcast, the 20th anniversary of the release of the Deftone's breakthrough album "White Pony" has the guys talking Nu Metal. How did the Deftones figure into the Nu Metal movement, and why were they inspired to make such a huge sonic shift? The guys also talk about Nu Metal pioneers Korn, while the "Great Debate" sees Dave, Lord Gates, Wild Bill and Jay Man listing their top 5 Nu Metal albums of all time. In the feature interview, Bill and Dave catch up with Dan Spain of Nu Metal band Downthesun (and Dogs of Neptune), a band whose self-titled album Bill lists in his top 5.
