In this episode we're joined by Janice Thompson, Deputy Director of Sonoma County's Department of Public Infrastructure, to learn more about the upcoming road paving season, the process for choosing road projects, how projects get funded and much more.
In today's episode we talked with award-winning author and mentor Janice Thompson about the importance of being a firestarter to mentor and stir up the gifts within other people. A firestarter is the initial person that goes out and says “I see this gift in you.” They essentially fan the flame, or stir up the gift by recognizing it in someone else and prompting them to do something with that gift. Without a firestarter (and mentor) in my life, I would have never recognized my own leadership potential or had the courage to write a book or speak from the stage. In this episode, local advocate, Janice Thompson met with me to record our conversation on the day that Roe V Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court. Our emotions are pretty raw as we talked about how that official slap in the face to women will affect victim-survivors of sexual assault. She'll tell me how Springfield's City Council's Sexual Assault Task Force report and recommendations are moving forward. We talked about why we may not be getting all of the answers we need, but we seem to be coming up with more questions. When Janice's husband died very suddenly in 2002, she felt her life was over. But now she realises that although she would obviously rather her husband be alive today, this horrendous event has led her on a wondrous journey of healing, EFT and later Matrix Reimprinting & Advanced Clearing Energetics. All of which she now works as, as a practitioner and a trainer. Janice has experienced first hand just how much these therapies can do. Janice joins Philly on The Wellness Way to tell you how there is joy beyond grif. KEY TAKEAWAYSGrief isn't just losing someone when they die, it could be losing a job or a house or a relationship or something from your childhood. Emotional Freedom Techniques is a form of counselling intervention that stimulates acupressure points by pressuring, tapping, or rubbing these points while focusing on situations that represent personal fear or trauma.90% of what we feel day to day comes from our subconscious. We need to develop strategies that work on our unconscious mind. You never know what might trigger you, and you often don't even know the reason something is triggering an emotional response. Before her husband passed away, Janice was happy because her family was all back together, then he died. This led her to developing a self defence mechanism of believing that if something good happens, something bad is going to happen as well. This majorly impacted the way she lived her life and made decisions. Matrix Reimprinting is a tool that can get to the core of a present day problem, quickly (in most cases) and gently. It can help you understand beliefs you made in times of trauma, which no longer serve you. This can have a profound effect on your life and help you to break old patterns of emotional behaviour, which has negatively impacted your life. You can then change those beliefs into more positive ones, which will support you and help you to transform your life, drastically for the better.Advanced Clearing Energetics (ACE) is a set of strategies that help with physical and psychological issues. Developed by Richard Flook, author of “why am I sick”. A book discussing all aspects of why we become sick and from which the ACE strategies were subsequently developed. ACE assists you in discovering the original stressful event behind your health issue, which has an enormous amount of energy in it. Using the ACE Strategies will help you find the root cause, assist you to clear the emotional and/or physical energy behind the event and help return your body to its natural energetic flow, its natural health. Our guest today is Janice Thompson. Janice suffered the loss of her husband in 2002. In her own grieving process, she discovered she was never fully over the loss of her father at 14. She had this experience of layered grief and witnessed how this played out in her own life. She learned immensely through this journey so much about grief, and what it means to move beyond grief into joy in right timing. She shares with us her story, how she was able to shift, the impact this shift and healing had on her family & children, and it led her into becoming a coach to support other people on their journeys, as well as she has recently authored a book called Joy Beyond Grief, which is set to publish shortly into the new year. IF you have ever experienced grief, loss of any kind, and if you find that it is difficult for you to speak about death, or hold space for someone dear to your heart who is going through a grieving process, this episode might speak to you. This episode of WTS* is brought to you by– a question my sister asked me: “Why don't you drink while you're in school?” In Ep. II I try to cover common questions and topics about alcohol (below), do a little bit of myth busting, and of course, share a FSF (fun shit fact). What is alcohol? How is alcohol metabolized? Why do I feel like shit* when I have a hanger? Why do I always have to pee? Should I eat while drinking or not? Why and how does alcohol affect memory? PMID: 2928622. ********** Pobody's Nerfect: Today's Corrections At 00:29:30 Correction about aldosterone, I said it was made in the brain, that is incorrect. Aldoesterone is a hormone that participates in fluid retention system but it is made in and released from the adrenal gland (the little triangle lumps that sit on top of your kidneys), it then circulates in the blood and when your kidneys bind this hormone, aldosterone in combination with two other hormones are a signal to retain fluid. But this is not the hormone that alcohol suppresses– alcohol actually suppresses the production of the hormone called vasopressin (or ADH) which is released from your brain. And this is what makes is so you have to urinate constantly. The full mechanism for blood pressure and fluid retention is below (if you care to know). Kidney senses low BP/Na+ levels and secretes renin into blood —> (angiotensinogen secreted regularly by liver) —> renin cleaves and coverts angiotensinogen —> angiotensin I —> lung releases ACE —> coverts angiotensin I —> AngII (now biologically active) —> AngII stimulates adrenal cortex to synthesize and secrete mineralocorticoid aldosterone —> AngII + aldosterone —> ↑Na+ retention/↓K+ retention in the kidneys —> AngII —> goes to brain and hypothalmus synthesizes ADH —> pituitary gland secretes ADH (vasopressin) —> AngII + aldosterone + ADH —> ↑H2O Retention + global vasoconstriction At 00:45:24 I mention a study that I thought was conducted in the 1960-1970s the study was actually published in 1989 (citation above) At 00:45:52 Christopher flushes a toilet, sorry guys. At 00:46:18 The audio sudden swaps, one of my microphones stopped recording but the other kept going to I had to swap audio files, hopefully I'll stop running into hiccups. At 00:56:00 I say that it was 20% recall (compared to the original recall test done the same day of learning) of the group that drinks alcohol on day 1, the amount of information lost as reported in the study was actually 50%, basically they were only able to recall half as much as they did on the day they learned, and those that drink on night 3 instead were only able to recall 40% as well as day 1 recall. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ariel-castro6/message
