Once again we get to the almost end of a season of AHS and we begin to slowly unravel. But what else do you expect from us at this point?
In this episode, we're talking with Ames High senior Adalyn McKeag, whose passion for food security and environmental sustainability has taken her many places outside the walls of AHS. Join us as Adalyn shares what drives her work, what she's learned from these experiences, and how she hopes to make a lasting impact.
Mark Carney drops his first budget and we're split: Cheryl gives it a 7/10 for a disciplined comms rollout and “build-through-the-downturn” strategy; Erika fires back with a 4/10 over record debt, fuzzy capital/operating splits, and weak relief for real people. We unpack what the naysayers actually mean, why “we're building houses” lands better than tax tinkering, and how this budget boxes in both the CPC and NDP on cuts, immigration, and social programs. Then: the Ottawa plot twist—Chris Dontermont crosses the floor as rumours swirl of more MPs ahead of Polievre's leadership review. Plus a brutal week in Alberta: an education bill dropped while the Premier's abroad, and the Auditor General won't be renewed mid-AHS probe. We argue over Bill 6's literacy testing, the optics of the AG timing, and why the first stab at boundary redistribution has both of us grinding our teeth.

Raymond E. Wyant has completed his report into the procurement process by Alberta Health Services, and has determined that there were failures at all levels of AHS. The report is sure to raise the ire of media types and progressives in Alberta, but will it result in a public inquiry, or is this issue now closed? Learn more about your ad choices. At just 17 years old, John Karpov immigrated alone from Kazakhstan to Canada, barely speaking English and with no safety net. When a scam wiped out his savings and left him contemplating suicide, one phone call saved his life, and set off a chain of events that would redefine what grit and perseverance look like.In this powerful conversation, Dwayne Kerrigan sits down with John to unpack how he went from a desperate student to the founder of Action Home Services, a multimillion-dollar landscape construction company. John shares how he learned English, mastered sales by necessity, and built a thriving business one door knock at a time. This is a masterclass in resilience, risk, and the immigrant mindset that fuels unstoppable entrepreneurs. Send us a textMaryvale began in 1856 when five nuns from the Daughters of Charity opened Los Angeles' first orphanage and hospital—initially a small wood-frame home near what is now Union Station. By 1891, it had moved to a larger facility in Boyle Heights, becoming a safe haven for thousands of children. When freeway expansion and earthquake damage threatened that site, generous benefactors—including Carrie Estelle Doheny—helped relocate the orphanage to Rosemead in 1953, where it was renamed Maryvale.Over the decades, Maryvale evolved from an orphanage into a comprehensive community service organization. They opened early education centers in Rosemead and Duarte, added transitional housing for young adults, and developed mental health and family-based programs. Today, Maryvale offers everything from preschool and after-school care to wraparound services, outpatient substance-use treatment, and emergency shelter—making it one of the San Gabriel Valley's longest-running nonprofits.A few warm and surprising facts: (1) Maryvale is LA's oldest children's charity—over 165 years of service. (2) Its Rosemead campus features more than classrooms—there's a pool, transitional housing, and family facilities. (3) Their Duarte site began as a “Land of Ahs” daycare back in 1999 and reopened in 2011 as a state-of-the-art early education and family resource center. (4) Maryvale recently received city approval to expand their Seton House transitional housing project—proof that they're still growing.Today, with campuses in Rosemead, Duarte, and South El Monte, Maryvale continues to serve families with hope, education, mental health support, and housing. From caring for orphans in the 19th century to empowering vulnerable youth and families today, their legacy lives on in real impact across the San Gabriel Valley.__________Music CreditsIntroEuphoria in the San Gabriel Valley, Yone OGStingerScarlet Fire (Sting), Otis McDonald, YouTube Audio LibraryOutroEuphoria in the San Gabriel Valley, Yone OG__________________My SGV Podcast:Website: www.mysgv.netNewsletter: Beyond the MicPatreon: MySGV Podcastinfo@sgvmasterkey.com

U.S. President Donald Trump says he's hitting steel and aluminum right now. 1:10:30 | Speaking of Trump, more Canadians want Mark Carney negotiating with POTUS, not Pierre Poilievre. Do you buy it? 1:15:30 | Ryan reads more of your thoughts on the AHS story, including an insider insight into demand for surgical facilities in Alberta. 1:25:00 | A Jasper business will be back in the water (in a good way!) this spring thanks to an amazing group of people who got together over the weekend to Raise the Raft.
