“Ele coleciona centenas e centenas dessas estampas”. Além disso, conhece pessoalmente figuras centrais da vanguarda. “Paul Signac, Émile Bernard, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat”, enumera Van der Veen. Montmartre: a pintura mergulha no excesso Há, porém, outra influência decisiva, muitas vezes esquecida: a festa. Esses lugares reuniam intelectuais, escritores, pintores, atores e poetas. Van Gogh estava no centro disso tudo.

The best of the internet's cat videos came to the big screen earlier this month. CatVideoFest is a 73-minute, G-rated selection of all things feline—silly, cuddly, sentimental and comedic—that's playing in more than 500 independent theaters in the U.S. and Canada. A portion of ticket proceeds benefits cat-focused charities, shelters and animal welfare organizations. Since 2019, it's raised over $1 million. The videos are curated by Will Braden, the Seattle-based creator of the comedically existential shorts, Henri, le Chat Noir. His business cards read: “I watch cat videos.” And it's not a joke or an exaggeration. Braden watches thousands of hours of internet videos to make the annual compilation. “I want to show how broad the idea of a cat video can be, so there's animated things, music videos, little mini documentaries,” Braden said. “It isn't all just what I call ‘America's Funniest Home Cat Videos.' It's not all cats falling into a bathtub. That would get exhausting.” Now in its eighth year, CatVideoFest is bigger than ever, with a global presence that's already extended to the UK and Denmark, and, for the first time, to France, Spain, Japan and Brazil. Last year, the screenings made over $1 million at the box office. In the early days, it was a bit of a process trying to convince independent movie theaters to program CatVideoFest. But Braden and indie distributor Oscilloscope Laboratories have found that one year is all it takes to get past that hurdle. “Everywhere that does it wants to do it again,” Braden said. Current theatrical partners include Alamo Drafthouse, IFC Center, Nitehawk, Vidiots, Laemmle and Music Box. The screenings attract all varieties of audiences, from kids and cat ladies to hipsters and grandparents and everyone in between. “It's one of the only things, maybe besides a Pixar movie or Taylor Swift concert, that just appeals to everybody,” Braden said. And the plan is to keep going. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Bonjour! This week, Emily and V look into another fandom neither of them knows much about: Miraculous Ladybug, one of Tumblr's biggest fandoms of 2023. They look into the premise and basic plot of the show, its adorable OTP love square (with only two people), and the long and much-anticipatory road to its premiere in America. Just what makes this show such fandom bait? Do you Miraculous Ladybug?

Produsert av Martin Oftedal, PLAN-B Hosted on Acast. Currently there is a rising number of people who suffer from depression and anxiety. Jannecke has suffered from depression herself but has managed to overcome it.She was a celebrated child star during the eighties and nineties and her identity was closely connected to what she could achieve. As an adult she landed several big roles in, amongst others, Hotel Cæsar (A norwegian soap opera), Grease at Chat Noir, Jul i Blåfjell at Folketeatret and Oslo Nye Teater (Christmas in the Blue Mountain, Norwegian Musical). When she lost her voice in 2001 and also had to give up a leading role in the musical “Little Shop of Horrors”, she hit rock bottom. A severe depression followed and her way out of it became the start of something that was in its infant stages at that time. When Jannecke founded Wisdom From North there were very few others on YouTube who were teaching within spirituality. She was one of the pioneers behind the wave of spirituality and life changes we see today. After more than 8 years recording and sharing interviews, she took the brave step to create her own business where she could do what she truly loved to do.Episode Chapters:(0:00:01) - Nordic Spirituality and Mysticism Exploration(0:16:01) - Exploring Spirituality and Cultural Traditions(0:20:20) - From Child Star to Self-Love Advocate(0:33:24) - Journey of Purpose and Spirituality(0:40:20) - Exploring Spirituality and New Perspectives(0:53:24) - Exploring Destiny and Spiritual Guidance(1:05:44) - Manifestation and Overcoming Comparison(1:16:17) - Manifestation and SurrenderPlease join Julie next week with your question.Thursdays at 8pm ET, 7pm CT, 5pm PT.https://askjulieryanshow.com And, please leave a five-star review and subscribe so you can hear all the new episodes.
What stories remain hidden behind one of the most significant inventions of the nineteenth century? Kaleidophonic Modernity: Transatlantic Sound, Technology, and Literature (Fordham University Press, 2023) reexamines the development of mechanical sound recording technology by charting the orbits of writers, scientists, and artists in France and the United States. Working between comparative literature, the history of science, and urban studies, Dr. Brett Brehm builds a bridge between visual culture and sound studies. Kaleidophonic Modernity places the poet and inventor Charles Cros and his lover, the celebrated concert pianist and salonnière Nina de Villard at the heart of modern aesthetic and scientific vanguards. Cros's scientific endeavors ranged from color photography, to telecommunications, to mechanical sound reproducibility. In his poetry the Surrealists found an ancestor and inspiration. His literary and scientific works prove startling and relevant to predicaments of technological media in his own time and ours. For nearly twenty years Nina de Villard presided over a supremely daring intellectual salon. There, she welcomed manifold literary, artistic, and musical luminaries into a veritable crucible of the artistic avant-garde and precursor to the famous Chat Noir cabaret. Together, these two forgotten but pivotal figures, Cros and Villard, help reframe our thinking on Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Baudelaire, and Walt Whitman, icons of urban modernity who can now be seen and heard in a kaleidophonic light, one that offers a compelling new perspective on modern mediascapes. In elaborating this transatlantic phenomenon, Kaleidophonic Modernity illuminates the prehistory of the phonograph as it intersects with the aesthetics of sound reproducibility, Franco-American literary exchange, Poe's aesthetic and intellectual legacy, the sounds of modern cities and technologies, and the genealogy of audiovisual experimentation found in such movements as Dada, Futurism, and the sound art of today. Annie deSaussure, holds a Ph.D. in French from Yale University and is an Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies in the Department of Languages and Literary Studies at Lafayette College. Her work focuses on minority regional languages, literatures, and cultures in contemporary France, radio, sound studies, and podcasting. Her most recent article on feminist discourses of motherhood in French podcasting is forthcoming in the 2023 special issue, “Podcasting Disruptive Voices,” of CFC Intersections. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
