Day 6: Audacious Prayer Through Joshua's prayer, we will look at a miracle for which we still have no explanation. In his prayer, Joshua asks God to keep the sun still in the sky. Israel is fighting a battle in which daylight is essential. To be victorious, Joshua boldly goes before the Lord and asks Him to keep the sun and the moon from moving. This impossible prayer is prayed in direct encouragement from God's promise to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands.” (Joshua 10:8) Remember that Joshua had seen miracle upon miracle over time, Red Sea deliverance, God's provision of manna, and Jericho's walls coming down. Because of these testimonies and because of the promise, he prayed an audacious prayer. God answers, “So the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed its setting almost a full day” (Joshua 10:13), and Israel wins the battle. There are many interpretations of “how” the sun stood still. Lots of rational explanations and scientists have their answers. In writing this, I crawled out of the rabbit hole of research and whether it was a cosmic refraction, an eclipse, the sun stopped shining, a day-long hail storm or a supernatural miracle - what we do know is that God answered and fulfilled his promise to Joshua, “I have given them into your hands.” The same God who went before Joshua is still the same God who fights on our behalf today. Invite Him into your battle today. Ask Him to go before you; ask Him for his strength, power, wisdom, and love to flow through you. Ask Him to do the extreme for you. Steven Furtick writes, “Audacious faith is the raw material that authentic Christianity is made of. It's the stuff that triggers ordinarily level-headed people like you and me to start living with unusual boldness. If we have the audacity to ask, God has the ability to perform.” My family friend, Barb, in a small Church of England church audaciously prayed for my sake in 1984, and it led to my seemingly impossible healing. Message me (mcollins@willowparkchurch.com) if you'd like to know more of this story! Lord, thank you that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. That the same power that stopped the sun, heals our broken bodies, fights our battles and raised Christ from the grave lives in every one of us. I pray that we will live our lives according to this bold truth. Amen. Reflect and Respond If we were to examine our lives right now and consider what seemingly impossible thing we would ask, what would you ask God for? Meditate on this verse and ask the Lord to speak to you.”Be strong and courageous! For you will lead these people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors He would give them. You are the one who will divide it among them as their grants of land. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31: 7–8) “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) Prayer Focus Pray for Pastor Jeremy, Kim and their family (Creekside). Pray for Pastor Jordan, Lis and their family (Hwy 33). Pray for Pastor Curtis, Leslie and their family (Seniors). Pray for Pastors Nick and Jenny Toews and their family (South). Pray for our apprentice pastor Luke Madden and his wife Rachel (Hwy 33). Pray for our apprentice pastor Courtney Vasko and her husband Mike (South). Pray for your three prayer points.
Sophie is joined by Vancouver comic Jenny Toews to talk about cuffing season, Tik Tok, ADHD, falling down, and her obsession with the fridge.
Dan O'Sullivan (writer, Welcome to Sullyville) appears on a main episode of the show for the first time, and him and John find themselves to be kindred spirits as John is uncharacteristically "on one" throughout the whole episode. Speaking of being on one, Dan gets blocked by one of the world's worst people after taking him to task for some horrible behaviour. The rest of the episode is the opposite of horrible, as we talk about Lisa Gail, drinking coffee, John's lack of movie knowledge, Elon Musk hosting SNL, the baby named Korn, and Stefan brings back "Real or Fake" after he finds the weird Disney guy's Goodreads account. One thing we know is real is that we have fantastic bonus content over at patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to FOUR bonus episodes every single month. This week you'll get two prime cuts as we post the VOD from our live show this weekend where we watched sports bloopers with David Roth, and Jenny Toews makes her return to the show in a brand-new Hell Block. We've got newsletters, we've got the $100 Club where you can unlock everything for a year AND get a free t-shirt, it's all there and waiting for you to luxuriate in content. Dan O'Sullivan is a writer whose newsletter on crime, "Welcome to Sullyville", is available at www.sullyville.io. He can be followed on Twitter at @Bro_Pair.
Jenny Toews (comedian, JFL Northwest) joins us for a very personal block, as she runs us through what it's like to be blocked by an ex-boyfriend after an intense relationship. We also find out about getting propositioned via Instagram DM and Stefan tries John's bidet for the first time. PLUS: The Blocked Boys go in on the Krassenstein Brothers' new podcast, the Super Bowl, how long it takes to cross the Pacific Ocean, and things get heated when the three discuss their top 3 potato chip rankings.
The hilarious Jenny Toews returns to discuss biscuits, demons, and tiny kittens!

This week on the show that is just, uhhhh, ok, the Real Good Boys are still stuck for what to talk about, so they take a deep-dive on the topics you're dying to know about, like the world of McDonaldland and how much money they'd accept to make their internet search histories public. PLUS: Brief Canucks talk! Movies that get adapted into video games! And the boys finally reveal what they would do with all the hats if they scored an NHL hat trick. Support the show at patreon.com/RealGoodShow, where $5 a month gets you access to all of our donor content. Our good friend JESSE FARRAR joined us in July to discuss his favourite movie of all time: Guillermo Del Toro's PACIFIC RIM! This month we launched the Summer of Sheldon, with six Young Sheldon-centric bonus episodes, and every single $5 donor pledging on or before August 29th is entered to win a guest appearance on the show! The first three episodes starring Chris James, Brian Gaar, and Jenny Toews are OUT NOW! The next two, featuring Ivan Decker and the boys from YKS are COMING SOON! And then it's the episode potentially starring YOU, the listener. Feedback has been great and we've enjoyed doing the episodes, so do the thing and donate NOW. FULL EPISODE AVAILABLE at www.patreon.com/RealGoodShow Oh baby, it's that Summer of Sheldon time again! This week we're joined by delightful comedian and fan-favourite guest JENNY TOEWS to discuss an episode of Young Sheldon that's... *gasp* actually good? It starts strong anyway, but eventually regresses to the mean. That's fine too, because we actually barely talk about it! Annie Potts joins the cast for this episode, so it's largely spent discussing THAT SCENE in Ghostbusters (you know the one) -- a movie with John has somehow never seen. Dan Aykroyd is a sick freak. Future guests on Real Good Sheldon include comedians Ivan Decker, Jesse Farrar and Michael Hale of Your Kickstarter Sucks, and... YOU??? The guest for our sixth episode will be drawn from the list of Patreon donors on August 29th, so you could win your way on to an episode just by supporting the show. Thank you, and good luck.
This week on the show whose friends call it Big Al, the boys are stuck in the dog days of summer and get out of it by doing an extended mailbag, answering some extremely existential questions, like what our first novel would be about and what living person would be the most difficult to hunt. PLUS: Ultimate frisbee! Disc golf! Classic jerseys! And Stefan finally names the yacht he's always dreamed of owning. FULL EPISODE AVAILABLE at www.patreon.com/RealGoodShow It's that Summer of Sheldon time again...! Comedian BRIAN GAAR (Rooster Teeth, ATX Uncensored) joins the Boys this time out to give a genuine Texan perspective on the second episode of Young Sheldon -- an episode that has actual jokes in it! But also an episode with little to no plot. It's a give-and-take situation. We do our best to expand upon the nothingness of this episode and discuss the frequency with which Sheldon would get beaten up in reality, inappropriate teacher-student socializing, and what really goes down in the teachers' lounge. PLUS: Brian hears the word "Bazinga" for the very first time, and drops the hammer on whether Sheldon has beaten Battletoads. Future guests on Real Good Sheldon include comedians Ivan Decker, Jenny Toews, Jesse Farrar and Michael Hale of Your Kickstarter Sucks, and... YOU??? The guest for our sixth episode will be drawn from the list of Patreon donors on August 29th, so you could win your way on to an episode just by supporting the show. Thank you, and good luck.
This week on the show that still kisses its kids on the mouth, the Real Good Boys realize it's been a long time since they've come up with a new segment, so they spend an awful lot of time doing just that, cooking some up in the Segment Kitchen. PLUS: Justin goes Incognito! Ray Lewis gets inducted into the Hall of Fame! Don Cherry (not that one, the other one)! And Justin finally becomes a man and gets his first-ever SCENE Card. FULL EPISODE AVAILABLE at www.patreon.com/RealGoodShow The Summer of Sheldon is officially here! We kick off our August mini-series of Young Sheldon reviews by taking in the pilot with classic RGS guest Chris James, and seem to go out of our way to not discuss the episode. Because, what is this show, some kinda drama or something? We'd rather discuss Chris's admittedly strange history with the Big Bang Theory, and those giant gumball machines they used to have at Blockbuster. Future guests on Real Good Sheldon include comedians Brian Gaar, Ivan Decker, Jenny Toews, Jesse Farrar and Michael Hale of Your Kickstarter Sucks, and... YOU??? This week on the show that's just gonna bypass that question because improvement will lead to success, John returns to the show fresh off his successful stint at JFL performing as his beloved Southern Momma character and he's full of fire and rage as two of the most contentious debates in RGS history break out over... (checks notes) Troy Stecher and salad. PLUS: Trevor Linden leaves the Canucks! We debate the ceiling of Elias Pettersson! Jim Harbaugh thinks eating chicken gives you brain diseases! New holiday mascots! And Justin comes out swinging against The Office. Support the show at patreon.com/RealGoodShow, where $5 a month gets you access to all of our donor content. This week on the show that learned to become a Wizard, John is away which means comedian RYAN WILLIAMS returns as special guest co-host! Ryan may be taking his role a little too seriously however, as he's begun dressing in John's clothes, opening his mail, and writing in John's diary about how to manage all his new responsibilities. PLUS: Cottage vs. cabin! We reminisce once more about that awful soda, Orbitz! Josh Hader's racist tweets! Johnny Manziel's big move! Ryan comes out swinging against lettuce wraps!
