Justice for Mary Jo! That's what we were yelling at the end of season 7. Mary Jo - and, in fact, Annie Potts - deserved so much more than the “Designing Women” writers gave her this season. Of course, there were some funny parts and a couple social commentaries but, for the most part, we veered into funhouse territory - just minus the fun. Come on y'all, let's rip off the Band-aid and get into it!
On this dig back into a past Patreon episode, Doug is uncomfortable seeing Annie Potts in a bra (no offense, Annie), Jamie tells tales of working at Blockbuster Video, and we wonder if this is the horniest of the John Candy movies. You know actress Annie Potts from basically everything - as the sardonic but unflappable receptionist in Ghostbusters, a newly divorced working mom in Designing Women, the voice of Bo Peep in the Toy Story series, and of course, as MeeMaw to Young Sheldon. But while she's built a career with marvelous staying power, for a long time, it seemed that she'd never have that experience in the love department. Until her fourth husband (yes, really) showed up 35 years ago or so. Want early, ad-free episodes, regular Dumpster Dives, bonus divorces, limited series, Zoom hangouts, and more? We can't revisit season 4 and skip past this classic Bernice episode. Her niece tried to declare her incompetent and, you know, shenanigans! Every performance was on FIRE, especially Annie Potts and Delta Burke. We also had to talk about the Mary Jo coined trip, “the IRBAT" – as in "the International Rich B!t*h Alimony Tour" – in a Salina's Sidebar. Also interested in one of those if a spot becomes available. Just saying.
There's something strange in the neighborhood - must be a new Ghostbusters movie! The follow-up to 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife, this film sees ghostbusting make its triumphant return to the Big Apple and the iconic firehouse. With Afterlife's cast returning along with Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts from the originals, the film introduces a new threat in the form of the icy Garraka. Winter is coming for a New York City summer, and it will take multiple generations of Ghostbusters to stop it, in a movie that draws inspiration from The Real Ghostbusters animated series. It's time we revisit our “Extra Sugar” all about Dixie Carter! By the time we'd done this, we'd done segments about the lives and careers of LBT, Annie Potts, Meschach Taylor, Delta Burke, and Jean Smart, but we owed you – and ourselves – a Dixie Carter deep-dive. This episode is where we pay up. We're finally talking about Ms. Julia Sugarbaker herself, THE Dixie Carter. P.S. If we sound punch drunk, we kind of were thanks to copious amounts of sherbert punch leading up to the segment.
Ghosts, Gremlins, and Gizmo, oh my! Mark welcomes old friend and paranormal enthusiast Solana Sorrento back on the show to rewind to a big day in summer blockbuster history: June 8, 1984. That's when something strange happened in the neighborhood and two fun sci-fi horror comedies took over the movie theater, creating memorable franchises. Ghostbusters from Ivan Reitman and Gremlins from Joe Dante were unleashed in theaters 40 years ago, giving kids like us a great "gateway horror" double feature. From supporting players Annie Potts and Rick Moranis to Polly Holliday and Frances Lee McCain, all the talent in front of and behind the camera get a round of applause!
John Candy stars as a bumbling private investigator who is hired to find a kidnapped heiress. Co-starring Jeffrey Jones, Annie Potts, Tim Thomerson and Shawnee Smith.

Ben & Rob get cold feet on the finale of their series covering every Ghostbusters movie EVER, defrosting ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire', the 2024 Gil Kenan directed latest instalment in the franchise. Take a deep breath for the cast-list, as it features the talents of Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, Logan Kim, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, William Atherton, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Emily Alyn Lind, and James Acaster! Sound like too many people for one plot to support in a meaningful way? You bet it is!When the discovery of an ancient artefact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age. But despite making twice it's budget in box office receipts, this film received a frosty reception from critics and a tepid welcome from much of the fanbase. Can Ben & Rob defrost this overstuffed freezer of a film, or is it best to leave the franchise where it belongs; behind the tupperware of old Lasagna that Aunt Ethel brought around when you had the flu? Is Winston Zeddemore the most inept CEO since Elon Musk? And can Ben ever forgive Gil Kenan for taking all the warmth out of his favourite franchise?CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS! Ben & Rob dig up the dirtfarm of ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife' as they continue to cover EVERY Ghostbusters movie EVER! Starring Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd as our brand new team of misfits, but also featuring wonderful reprise performances from Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver, ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife' see's Egon Spengler's estranged family rediscovering their family's legacy in the wake of his death. ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife' serves as a painfully touching tribute to the one name missing from the above paragraph, Harold Ramis. A multi talented actor, director and writer, this film perfectly eulogises the man many in the cast simply called their friend, whilst simultaneously passing the torch from original Ghostbuster director Ivan Reitman to his son, Jason. But how did this film get made with the original cast so disparate? With Ben being such a Ghsotbusters fanatic, can he survive the onslaught of emotion this film subjects him to? And how does Satan decide on Demon Names?CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS! Cultural icon Annie Potts is beloved by fans of every age, and for excellent reason. Her bright on-screen light emanates from deep within her own actual warm soul and big heart! The length and breadth of her philanthropic work rivals her IMDB credits and she's hovering at 114 of those. Most recognizable now as Young Sheldon's Meemaw, you may also know her for Corvette Summer, Pretty In Pink, and the Ghostbusters and Toy Story franchises.Annie shares with us her deep affection for her Young Sheldon co-stars and the joy and honor it has been to help and watch them grow up.Annie's first long-running sit-com was Designing Women where she played Mary Jo Shively, alongside Jean Smart, Dixie Carter and Delta Burke. Together, in an age before internet harassment they weathered the storm of co-star Delta falling victim to the tabloid bully that was the National Enquirer. Cast camaraderie has always been key for Annie.Consider yourself warned, Phantasms. In Ghostbusters Frozen Empire (now in theaters) Annie is finally suiting up and busting some ghost! Also, her sultry Bo Peep has a star turn in Toy Story 5 which will hit theaters next year.Annie also shares some backstage stories, tells us which of her shows she wishes had enjoyed a longer run and gives us a peek into the Young Sheldon finale and a spinoff that will feature Young Georgie. Then, Annie takes on a round of IMDB Roulette. All that, plus Fritz and Weezy are recommending A Man In Full and Baby Reindeer, both on Netflix. Today we meet the effervescent Kim Harmon Gatlin, a Dallas native and author of the bestseller "Good Christian Bitches," which led to the ABC TV series. We swap outrageous stories about Dallas society, from the social expectations to the underground dating and hook-up scene. Apparently the Ghostbusters aren't afraid of no ghosts or sequels. Forty years after the original Ghostbusters comes Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. We get the Ghostbusters that started it all minus the late, great Harold Ramis. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. Annie Potts is back as well. Then we also see the new characters introduced in 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife played by the likes of Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard. In this sequel, all of them are back where it all started, New York City. This time a newly re-discovered ancient orb is the prison of an old evil that is desperately trying to get out. I think you can guess if it gets out or not. Can the Ghostbusters band together to defeat this entity that kills people by literally freezing people with fear? Also, they have to contend with an old nemesis from the original Ghostbusters that is still trying to take them down. Is it worth jumping in the car and driving to the theater to check this out? Watch this episode to find out! Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire also stars Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O'Connor, Logan Kim, Emily Alyn Lind, James Acaster, William Atherton, Shelley Williams, Chris Tummings and John Rothman.Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

The new trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire dropped today, and it's the #3 trending video on YouTube. Weirdly, the media has all but stopped talking about Ghostbusters 2016 in relation to the new Jason Reitman films. But it was ALL they could talk about leading up to Afterlife. So what changed? ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 ➡️ Gaming News: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A7VIqE3r5MQkFgL9nifNc Additional Context: "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," the latest addition to the iconic Ghostbusters franchise, has just released its new trailer, causing quite a stir in the entertainment world. This film follows the Spengler family as they return to New York City, joining forces with the original Ghostbusters who have established a top-secret research lab to advance their ghost-busting technology. Together, they face an "unimaginable evil commanding an army of ghosts," threatening to plunge the world into a second Ice Age. Directed by Gil Kenan and co-written by Jason Reitman, who also directed "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," "Frozen Empire" marks a return to the franchise's roots in New York City. Reitman explained that "Afterlife" was a "passing-the-torch" film, introducing new characters and re-establishing the Ghostbusters world. "Frozen Empire" ramps up the action, featuring original cast members like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, alongside newer faces such as Paul Rudd. The media's focus has indeed shifted from "Ghostbusters 2016" to the new Jason Reitman films, reflecting a change in the franchise's direction. "Ghostbusters 2016," directed by Paul Feig, was a reboot with an all-female lead cast and faced mixed reactions from both fans and critics. In contrast, Reitman's "Afterlife" and now "Frozen Empire" are seen as direct sequels to the original films, appealing to both new audiences and longtime fans by blending nostalgia with fresh storytelling. This shift in narrative and style, moving away from the reboot approach of the 2016 film, might explain why the media's conversation has changed, focusing more on the continuity and expansion of the original Ghostbusters universe. "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" is set to hit theaters on March 22, 2024, and is already generating significant buzz, ranking as one of the top trending videos on YouTube. With its blend of new and familiar elements, the film is poised to capture the imaginations of a wide audience, continuing the legacy of one of cinema's most beloved franchises. We're going back to another childhood favorite this week to kick off the best supporting spooky season! “Ghostbusters” may be a perfect vehicle for Bill Murray to do the Bill Murray thing, but we're here for some long overdue Annie Potts appreciation as bespectacled receptionist Janine and to, of course, recognize the icon that is Dana Barrett's apartment. (That fridge!) To say nothing of Sigourney Weaver herself, who may actually have the best role in the movie. (Certainly better than poor Winston!) Chef Robby, Chuck, Matt Anderson, Doug Wortel (from THE MIGHTY PECULIAR), and Mike talk about Corvette Summer. This coming-of-age "comedy" starring Mark Hamill (fresh off the set of Star Wars) and Annie Potts is one of the more disturbing movies we've seen on the bin in a long time. Mark Hamill loves to build strange cars and pose on the hood like Tom Savini in Knightriders. When his latest creation is stolen during a High School shop class field trip to Van Nuys Blvd, Mark takes off to Vegas in search of the Corvette. On the way he meets Annie Potts, a teenaged-sex-worker-in-training who helps him try to track it down between giving herself swirlies in gas station men's rooms. It's a laugh riot!!!
