5/26/24 - Luke 11:1-13 - Walking With Jesus: Check Up by Pastor Dennis Fountain
Many parents are sending their children into the world with zero spiritual tools. This isn't judgment. This is a fact. A lot of kids have nothing to combat all of the things the enemy throws at them every day, and the enemy launches big missiles at kids. He exposes them to sex and pornography as early as elementary school. He even starts inundating them with identity issues. Kids are in a constant battle whether we realize it or not. This episode is part one of a two part series on parenting kids and equipping them spiritually. Parents are the most influential people in their child's spiritual growth journey, so it's important that parents be the first teacher and model of what it is like to be a believer in and follower of Christ. Even if you don't currently have kids or if you have no plans of having your own kids, you may still find yourself parenting someone's kids and needing to teach them spiritual tools. The dictionary defines a parent as a person who brings up and cares for another. I invited minister Karen Malone on to help us in this area. This episode is packed with so much valuable information to help guide you along the way of teaching spiritual tools. Min. Karen L. Malone serves as Senior Director of Family Ministry at Faith Chapel in Birmingham, AL where she has served in full-time ministry for over 11 years. She has a passion for serving and supporting others in expanding their influence, and believes in developing our next generation leaders at a young age, so that they grow up as bold and courageous leaders for Christ. Karen taught for 11 years in the Madison City School district in Madison, Alabama before transitioning into full-time ministry at Faith Chapel. Her first ministry, as well as her greatest honor and achievement is being the wife of Min. Tyrone Malone and mother of their two beautiful children. In this episode, we discuss: How Karen found her way into full time ministry The role parents play in the spiritual development of their children When a child is ready to accept salvation Spiritual challenges kids are facing in 2023 Spiritual tools parents can equip their children with to fight off spiritual challenges and attacks Advice on how to respond when God doesn't give your children what they want Cultivating your kids gifts Resources to help parents navigate teaching their children about the Gospel of Jesus Check out the show notes for this episode here: https://pavielle.com/127 Want to ask a follow up question to the episode? There's a lot that can be said about the Bible. One thing that needs to be said, though, is that our relationship with it is complicated. That's because too often we treat it as an object to be understood rather than an opportunity to be taken. What would change in our relationship with the Bible if we started seeing it through our relationship with Jesus? Check out Part Eight of Alpine Chapel's series, "Always Jesus" and listen as Staff Pastor Alex Gowler calls us to clear the air in our relationship with the Bible and start reading it through the lens of our relationship with Jesus.

Will Briggs is the Lead Care Pastor at Southland. In this episode Will and Scott discuss what really makes a man and the importance of being comfortable in your own skin. Group Questions: What activities, hobbies, or interests do you associate with being “manly?” Who comes to mind when you think of “manly" men? What is the essence of true, biblical manhood? What kind of man was Jesus (Check out Micah 6:8, Ephesians 5:25, and Revelation 1:12-18)? Will mentioned the balance between toughness and tenderness. Who do you know that embodies these characteristics well in their personal and professional life? Who has God made you to be - uniquely and creatively? Why do you do what you do? How does comparing our lives to others distract us from living out our God-given purpose? What does it mean to be wounded? How has woundedness impacted you and those in your life? Read Proverbs 27:17. Will said, “We’re an average of the 5 people we spend the most time with.” What are you becoming like as a result of the people you spend time with? Can you identify an area of woundedness that you’d be willing to share with the group? Stop now to pray for Jesus’ healing and restoration for men at Southland.
Theology is simply the study of God. It’s knowing who God is revealed in the Bible. But sometimes our theology takes a little left turn - I’ve been there - and our culture certainly doesn’t help us get back on track. Today we are looking at biblical Jesus and Modern day Jesus (which is false) and learn to be discerning, wise, and more full of worship of the One True God and Savior.
