How easy is it for you to forgive? Maybe this Christmas you're reminded of friends and family who may have hurt you in some way or maybe you find it hard to love some of the people in your life because of their past decisions. We'll see through God's word and Home Alone 2 that the ultimate reason we forgive is because God forgave our biggest debt by sending his son Jesus to earth to save us from our sins.

The holidays are a time to celebrate. But let's be honest — not every holiday season feels merry and bright. But there is a truth that overcomes even the hardest moments of our lives. God is mightier than anything we're facing in the past, present, or future. What if this Christmas, you found true rest knowing that Jesus is your Mighty God who can overcome any circumstance you are facing?

What are you living for? Is it for the next promotion? The shopping spree? The approval of others? The perfect family life? Ultimately, everyone is going to fall into two categories. We are either living for something that is demanding our life or living for something that is giving us life! We'll look at the life of Saul from the Bible and the character Peter from the movie Hook to discovery our last truth that only Jesus is worth living for because he is the only thing that will give us life!

What causes you to be kind? Culturally, there could be ulterior motives that drive us to act kind, but what does kindness look like as a Christ-follower? As we explore Ruth chapter 2, we see a picture of kindness that points us directly to God’s ultimate act of kindness: Sending Jesus to die in our place for us to know God unconditionally.  Our relationship with Him produces a kindness that only He can give.

Do you have your “routine”; your “comfort zone”? What would make you change it? King Solomon longed to fulfill pleasures by temporary things on earth and forgot that his true comforter, the Lord, is the only one who could satisfy. King Solomon made little concessions and allowed others, overtime, to turn his heart away from God. Identifying areas in our lives that need repentance and spending daily time with God through his word will guard our hearts from the idol of comfort. God should always be at the center. He put us first by sending Jesus to die for us, so that we always have access to the one and only comforter!

We all have bad days. How do we respond? Where do bring our sadness? In this Psalm of Lament, we see the song writing sharing a raw, authentic prayer with God. We are invited to cast all of our anxiety on God, because He cares for us! No matter what we go through, we can be sure that the wrath of God will not placed on us - Jesus took it to the cross! Allow your emotions to point you to the One Who made you and loves you!

Where do you go in your weakness? Do you tend to retreat, shutdown, or distract yourself from a problem? Elijah ran away out of fear and needed reminding that his Heavenly Father’s love is always available in times of weakness. Elijah’s story points us to Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice in his time of weakness so that we can delight knowing that our Father in heaven and Holy Spirit is with us even in the most difficult times. 

How do you find peace and when living a life of anxiety? When fear and worry grip your hearts? Philippians 4:4-7 promises peace that  “transcends all understanding”. How can we find peace that only God can give when your mind is racing and you can’t focus because of anxious thoughts?. We learn from the story of Daniel that prayer is our first response! Use anxiety as an alert to start praying and as 1 Thessalonians 5:17 states it: never stop praying. Daniel surrendered to and trusted God in everything and was met with salvation from the lion’s den. But Daniel’s story points us to Jesus, who surrendered to the Father, was faithful to the end, and died for our sins so that we can have a relationship with God through prayer and scripture.

A godly marriage isn’t built on happiness, it’s built on unity. One of the greatest tragedies in marriage is when two people are together but not united. With a new year on the horizon, a lot of us are quick to set new goals for the coming months, but not all of us will take time to reflect on the past year. As we look back on 2019, have we taken notice of the “check engine light” of our soul? Are there areas in our lives where we have grown complacent in and have stopped pursuing excellence? As we examine the life of Joseph, we see someone who had multiple opportunities to let integrity and discipline fall by the waste side. But Joseph’s constant pursuing and obedience to God allowed him to handle situations in his life with honor. Joseph followed a law. We now follow Jesus. Through our constant pursuit to know Jesus more and understand the sacrifice he made for us, we can truly ask “what would Jesus do” in every part of our lives. 

Have you ever thought that life could be good with or without God ? Let’s face it, we see people who are very successfully and appear to be happy and they don’t have a relationship with God. It’s easy to fall trap in comparing the life of a Christian to those who don’t believe in Jesus. But as we look through scripture, we see that our God is leading us through His path and to eternity through Jesus’ sacrifice. We are the temple of God and when we find time to enter into His presence daily and fix our focus on Jesus, it's a reminder that while our earthly situations may look like they are failing, God will never fail us. He is our strength. 

Pride has contradicting definitions. There is a big difference between being proud of your accomplishments and being too proud to accept help, guidance, and love. Our pride can create blindspots in our lives and make us value our way over God’s way. But if we humble ourselves and follow the grace that Jesus showed us when he died for our sins, then we will approach life with the wisdom of God. Jesus is knocking at the door of our hearts and wants us to surrender our lives to Him so that we can spend eternity in heaven.

We are all walking through life with problems. And it can be easy to shift our focus onto distractions and avoid our issues due to fear. When we operate in fear, we can lose focus on our relationship with God. But when you spend daily, consistent time with God through his word, prayer, and fellowship, you can fight your fears with faith and know that the outcome of your problems are according to God’s plan and purpose. Jesus faced our ultimate problem of sin by dying for us so that we can have a relationship with our Heavenly Father.
