What causes addiction, and why is it so hard to quit? Discover precisely how addiction works in the brain, the powerful connection between addiction and dopamine, and what's really driving your cravings. In this video, I'll show you how to break the addiction cycle with practical steps that can help you regain control.Download Dr. Berg's Free Daily Health Routine: https://drbrg.co/45qtO070:00 Introduction: Addiction explained0:52 How addiction works in the brain2:40 Why addiction is so hard to quit3:34 How to break addiction cycles 6:35 Addiction recovery tips8:09 Nicotine addiction explained9:00 Changing your environment to break addiction10:18 What causes addiction? 11:24 More addiction recovery tipsWhether you're addicted to smoking, alcohol, porn, sugar, social media, or gambling, attempting to quit often makes matters worse, but why? When you drink alcohol, for example, you feel happier and less stressed. Dopamine then tags alcohol as something that increases survival, and the more you consume, the stronger the drive.Dopamine and glutamate are the hormones involved with addiction. When glutamate levels are too high, you may experience abnormal body sensations, agitation, pressure, compulsion, and obsession. When you ignore this, your fight or flight mechanism kicks in, and your symptoms worsen. When you experience withdrawal symptoms as you're trying to break an addiction, try the following steps:1. Rate the intensity of the urge on a scale of 0-102. Locate or point to the affected part of your body3. Describe it to yourself4. Repeat When you repeat the process, you'll notice that the intensity of the sensations decreases. This process helps you differentiate yourself from your addiction. The more you define your addiction and separate yourself from it, the less it will affect you. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) significantly reduces glutamate spikes. Try taking 600-2400 mg of NAC per day, depending on the severity of the problem. Magnesium glycinate can increase GABA, which reduces cortisol and the fight-or-flight response. If you're a smoker, vitamin B1 and potassium can help. Changing your environment is vital to breaking the cycle of addiction. Problems with sleep, exercise, or blood sugar can make someone more vulnerable to developing an addiction. Coincidentally, increasing exercise, getting plenty of sleep, and following a low-carb diet can help break the cycle. Oxytocin can act as a safety net when you're experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Increase oxytocin with hugs, pets, bonding with friends and family, and L. Reuteri yogurt. Since neither of us are experts on either nicotine's health effects or bone health in general, we knew we needed to find an expert to fill us in.Dr. Jocelyn Wittstein is a Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeon and Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University specializing in the care of adolescent and adult athletes. Some things that bio missed were her particular emphasis on shoulder instability, work on the unique challenges faced by female athletes across the lifespan, and work on mitigating age related issues... It might not be clear from the broad span of research, but first and foremost she is a Full time surgeon. There are many things that can impact your ability to become pregnant. In today's episode, I'm reviewing the top 10 things to consider if you are TTC. 1. Environmental Toxins. Avoid microwaving food in plastic containers or bottles. Always store food and glass or stainless steel containers. Million Marker offers a test to find out if you have in-body toxicity. 2. Chemicals in food and everyday products. Verify that the products you are using are chemical free. You can do that on https://www.ewg.org/ 3. Being sedentary. The CDC and American College of OBGYN, both recommend exercise in amounts of 150 minutes per week. Avoid over exercising, as low BMI can also cause fertility issues. 4. Food allergies or intolerances. Work with a nutritionist to find out if you have a food allergy or other food intolerance. You may also want to consider working with a specialist if you have PCOS or working with a nutritionist like Rohini Bajekal to help you manage PCOS if you have it. 5. Blocked Fallopian Tubes. Check with your doctor to find out if this is what may be causing you to have a hard time TTC. 6. THC and Cannabinoids can affect the motility of the fallopian tube and the receptors in the lining of the uterus. This makes embryo implantation harder and it might not happen as quickly as you would want. 7. Nicotine. Nicotine can affect the DNA and the egg in the sperm cells, and it can also affect a woman's fertility such that she could go potentially into menopause earlier. 8. Blaming birth control pills. Many people think that birth control pills "cause" infertility, but the truth is that because they regulate your period they may be masking the indicators of infertility. Make sure you get your hormone levels checked with your doctor every year to confirm your levels. 9. Ignoring biology. Every woman is born with a finite number of eggs, and if you want to wait to have kids until later in life, be sure and freeze your eggs when you are in your 20s. 10. Not getting enough sleep. Listen on Dr. Aimee's website. Curious about IVF? Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The IVF Class. The next live class call is on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 4pm PST, where Dr. Aimee will explain IVF and egg freezing and there will be time to ask her your questions live on Zoom. Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh is one of America's most well known fertility doctors. Her success rate at baby-making is what gives future parents hope when all hope is lost. She pioneered the TUSHY Method and BALLS Method to decrease your time to pregnancy. Learn more about the TUSHY Method and find a wealth of fertility resources at www.draimee.org.

I've never heard a podcast on nicotine that I was impressed with because tobacco is usually bashed, or if the podcast is about tobacco it is all about energy and the teacher aspect of the plant. That was the primary inspiration to have this monologue on why I smoke a cigar almost everyday. I talk about: the antivírál, anti fungal, and neuroprotective effects of cembranoid diterpenes in tobacco and how their mechanism of action differs from nicotine, how tobacco protects us from organophosphates, the controversial research on pregnancy and how smoking tobacco reduces complications, my four top supplements that every smoker should be taking everyday, the multiple ways that melatonin supplementation protects the lungs and vascular system, the cadmium and tobacco connection and which supplement remedies that problem, and much more. Big tobacco did not sponsor this podcast and I have no affiliate link for cigars, although I share my favorite brands at the end. You are on your own on sourcing them. In this episode, Evan H. Hirsch, MD welcomes Troy Roach, a citizen scientist and educator, to discuss the revolutionary use of low-dose nicotine patches in the treatment of Long COVID. Troy Roach, originally from California and a graduate of Virginia Tech, works as a Medical English teacher for nursing and physiotherapy students at two universities in Madrid, Spain. After being severely debilitated by COVID-19 in March 2020, with his functional capacity reduced to approximately 30 percent, Troy dedicated himself to Long COVID as a citizen scientist. He joined the Renegade Research community, including Remission Biome, and spearheaded an observational study in 2023 on the use of low-dose nicotine patches for the condition. This study analyzed data from 231 participants, with the results published alongside Dr. Leitzke in 2025. Troy is currently preparing for a longitudinal, IRB-approved follow-up study aimed at further developing evidence-based recovery strategies for Long COVID. In this episode, you'll learn: Why nicotine patches differ from smoking or vaping How the cholinergic system and vagus nerve are involved in Long COVID What the "toxic five" are and how they relate to recovery Safe dosing strategies, brands, and protocols used by thousands Why some patients experience "remission events" after just a few doses Key risks, detox reactions, and how to prepare the body for nicotine use Learn more about Troy's work, community and resources: Blog: https://unitedstatesian.blogspot.com/ Main Resources: https://linktr.ee/thenicotinetest . Nicotine is having a moment. Biohackers are popping pouches. Health influencers are praising its focus benefits. Your aunt just texted asking if she should try it.But nobody's talking about what actually matters: where it comes from, how it's processed, and whether the stuff on the market is helping you — or slowly wrecking your gums, your lungs, and your nervous system.David Avocado Wolfe has been growing tobacco for 25 years. Not the hot dog version they shred into cigarettes — heirloom strains from seeds unearthed on archaeological digs, cultivated on certified biodynamic land, processed the way indigenous shamans have done it for 10,000 years. This is the conversation about nicotine that isn't happening in the comment section. The difference between medicine and poison. Why dosage and sourcing are everything. And why no tool works if your foundations are trash. We also get into spring water hunting, the truth about olive oil fraud, and why the oldest people on earth aren't taking supplements — they're walking barefoot to thousand-year-old olive groves.Find David Wolfe:Website: https://www.davidwolfe.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/davidavocadowolfeConnect with Tracy:Website: https://tracyduhs.com/Hydration Shop: https://sanctuarysd.com/Instagram: @tracyduhsFlow FAM Community: https://tracyduhs.com/join-flow-fam/Timestamps:0:00 - Nicotine is having a moment — but nobody's talking about this2:44 - Why David started growing tobacco after an ayahuasca vision5:12 - The difference between medicine and poison is dosage8:46 - Why patches, pouches & gums are way too strong12:39 - Hape: the 10,000-year-old delivery system that hits different21:00 - How to find clean tobacco (and why most products fail)30:09 - Spring water hunting: the best hobby you've never tried43:08 - Deuterium depletion: the metabolic hack hiding in your water53:07 - The olive oil fraud at Costco (and what to buy instead)1:04:28 - Why 90-year-old Greeks are still running their farms

This isn't just a conversation, it's a live experiment.TJ Power challenges Matt Willis in real time to face the invisible addictions quietly draining his energy and to decide, on camera, what he's willing to let go of to feel fully alive again. From nicotine and endless scrolling to constant stimulation, Matt confronts habits he no longer enjoys but feels unable to escape. TJ also explains how these dopamine loops trap the brain, leaving us restless, flat, and disconnected from real fulfillment. The moment turns personal when Matt reflects on his children. Without planning or performance, he makes a decisive choice, throwing away his vapes and committing to quit on the spot. TJ lays out the truth: every habit is a trade, between short-term dopamine and the life you actually want to live.No polish, no easy answers, just an honest challenge to choose presence over numbness, freedom over avoidance, and courage over comfort.Simba mattresses
Developmental psychologist Bonnie Halpern-Felsher specializes in teenage health-related decision-making, especially in their use of tobacco, alcohol, cannabis, and other substances. Young people, she says, value immediate social benefits over long-term risks. In response, she supports bans on flavored nicotine products and has developed nationally and internationally used evidence-based substance use prevention and intervention programs, including some that are culturally targeted, such as her vaping prevention curriculum in Hawaii zeroing in on popular flavors like mango and poi. The reward, she says, is reduced substance use and better mental health. “Talk to your kids. Don't lecture. Have a conversation,” Halpern-Felsher tells host Russ Altman of the best way to break through on this episode of Stanford Engineering's The Future of Everything podcast.Have a question for Russ? In this episode, Evan H. Hirsch, MD, explores the evolving role of nicotine patches in long COVID recovery and why a personalized approach is essential. Building on nearly a year of new findings, Evan shares how nicotine interacts with key receptors in the body, helps dislodge spike proteins, and supports parasympathetic nervous system function, but also why it's not a magic bullet. In this episode, Evan breaks down: Why nicotine helps some people and not others The importance of finding your "Goldilocks dose" How toxins, infections, and mold can block healing, even with nicotine What symptoms are connected to blocked acetylcholine receptors Why true recovery requires more than one solution When to consider a deeper detox process to address the Toxic 5 Nicotine may support the healing process, but knowing when and how to use it, and what else your body needs, can be the key to finally moving forward. . You know him as the voice of Australian radio, the man dominating stand-up stages across the country and one of Australia's most loved comedians: Hughsey. He’s filled our households with laughter for decades, but today we meet the man behind the comedy curtain. In this deeply personal conversation, Dave opens up about his decision to quit alcohol cold turkey at the young age of 21 - long before he became a household name. He shares the raw reality of his “blackout” drinking, how seeing his father’s struggles with alcohol influenced his path, and his more recent battles with nicotine and workaholism. We delve into the "nature vs. nurture" debate as he navigates parenting his own children, the generational cycle of alcohol in Australian culture and how to authentically talk to young people about addiction. This isn't just a story about quitting; it’s a masterclass in self-awareness, ego-dissolution and finding joy in the simple act of breathing. Episode 2 of the 9941 Podcast tackles a question many Christians quietly wrestle with: How should believers think about nicotine? In an honest, Scripture-centered conversation, Granger Smith, Tyler Smith, Parker Smith, and AntMan explore the difference between Christian freedom and spiritual slavery—asking whether substances like nicotine, caffeine, or alcohol have dominion over our lives or are simply neutral tools. Drawing from passages like Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 6, Galatians 5, and Romans 8, the group discusses addiction, conscience, legalism, cheap grace, and the responsibility believers have not to place stumbling blocks in front of others. The episode also features a powerful testimony of a man in Japan who came to faith through daily Scripture reading and discipleship, illustrating the heart of the 9941 mission: reaching the one and equipping the ninety-nine. The conversation closes with a clear presentation of the gospel and a reminder that true freedom is found not in self-control alone, but in Christ alone. The 9941 Podcast is a Christian podcast hosted by Granger Smith, Tyler Smith, Parker Smith, and Anthony Lay. Rooted in Luke 15, the show exists to seek the one who feels lost and to equip the ninety-nine to live out their faith with clarity and conviction through Scripture, honest conversation, and real-life stories.
