The arrival of iOS 12 means you can now use Apple's long-awaited suite of Screen Time tools. The new features, which appear under Settings > Screen Time, are designed to give you a better idea of how you're spending time on your phone and limit the time you spend on certain apps. It's all part of a greater push by tech companies to mitigate the ways personal devices are engineered to be addictive, by creating all kinds of new “digital wellness” features.

Everybody has been talking about the Apple Keynote, the new iPhones, and iOS 12. Yesterday I went ahead and updated my phone and iPad. A little unnerving, but so far it's working well. What's the one feature that I'm excited about? Listen in. The second part of today's podcast talks about running a business out of your RV, and how some people devalue your work because it looks like "fun" to them. Seriously, you have no idea how often people discount what it is you do if you're not parked in an office or cubicle all day! •See what I spent over 5 hours on yesterday that I'm not getting paid for yet: https://bit.ly/2OBbjwC •My weekly blog wrap up talking about my work for the previous week: https://bit.ly/2QFsvCw •Want to learn how to edit and manage your photos with Lightroom: https://bit.ly/2PO0ish •Learn how to build your own business class websites: https://bit.ly/2QAoejP •Photography for drone pilots: https://bit.ly/2wx0Rz9 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-airstream-chronicles/support
Even if you don't plan on buying a new iPhone, you'll be able to get a bunch of new features next week. Apple plans on releasing iOS 12, the next major version of iOS, on Tuesday, September 17th. As always, iOS 12 will be available as a free download. If your iPhone or iPad runs iOS 11, you'll be able to update to iOS 12 as Apple plans to keep supporting all existing iOS 11 devices. Here's a quick rundown of what's new in iOS 12.
iOS 12 is coming this fall with the addition of Screen Time which is Apple's atempt to tackle cell phone addaction. With these feature you can limit your app usage to keep your addiction under control.
WWDC 2018 was this week and tons of Apple announcements came, but no need phones, iPads, or any device at all. But there were updates with iOS12, Watch OS 5, TV OS, and Mac OS X Mojave. Asus then announcement some crazy hardware. The ROG Phone is a more powerful Nintendo Switch-like phone with an HDMI dock, Controller attachments, and a Nintendo DS-like clamshell attachment called the Twinview Dock. Not to mention an attachable fan and desktop dock. They are literally taking phone gaming to another level! And they also announced 2 really interesting laptops. Lastly we discuss 2 of our favorite financial apps - Goodbudget and Robinhood and end with a discussion on if investing in Moviepass is a good idea. Like usual Apple has once again released a new version of their mobile operating system iOS 12, at their WWDC conference back in June. As we get closer to it's fall release it is about time to start talking about what to expect.
Apple just released the third version of the iOS 12 beta as part of the public beta program. It means that everyone can now install a development build of iOS 12, the next major version of the operating system for iPhone and iPad. Don't forget this is still a beta version. Things will crash, things won't work. Don't be surprised if you lose data in your Photos, Notes or Messages apps for instance.
In the 89th episode of the iPhone Life Podcast, members of the team share the best and worst features of iOS 12 after testing the beta software on their iPhones and iPads. You'll also discover the charging dock, smart water bottle, and rugged case you need this summer.
The annual iOS refresh is on the way—Apple has previewed it, beta testers have installed it, and the rest of us should get iOS 12 when iPhones arrive in September. While features such as winking 3-D emoji and screen-time limits for your apps might take much of the attention when the software arrives, iOS 12 is a major step forward in one other crucial area: smartphone security.
With virtually the entire team unavailable this week Karl is joined by Gazmaz from the MyMac Podcast and developer Russ Freeman to share their thoughts and opinion on the week's Apple related news. Apple creates a ‘Keyboard Service Program' to try and combat those crumb swallowing MacBooks. Apple has been working on a new version of Maps, Watches are scratchable, Apple news getting focus on American politics and apparently new AirPods are on the way…next year. This is your opportunity to get a glimpse of the future of iOS. Apple just released the very first public beta of iOS 12, the next major version of the operating system for iPhone and iPad. Unlike developer betas, everyone can download it without a $99 developer account. But don't forget it's a beta. The company still plans to release the final version of iOS 12.0 this fall (usually September). But Apple is going to release betas every few weeks over the summer.
The pace of iOS innovation has been so intense that even Apple couldn't keep up. In some ways, iOS 11's main feature was that it was packed with bugs, with autocorrect bugs, messages arriving out of order and the Calculator app not calculating properly. iOS 12 is a nice change of pace. “For iOS 12, we're doubling down on performance,” Apple's SVP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi said at WWDC.
Jeff is someone I’ve only come across in the last couple of months, but already him and his co-host of their ‘Slab of Glass’ podcast have made it something you should be listening to. Hence why Jeff is on this weeks episode! We go into detail of our workflow with our iPads, alongside our love …

This show originally aired on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 9:00 AM EST on WFED (1500 AM).
This week Alan and Karl find themselves alone discussing the Apple related news. Also, Alan has throw caution to the wind regarding iOS12, what could possibly go wrong we ask ourselves? Karl is trying to work out a media solution for his father and we have a request from a listener regarding what to put on his new Apple Watch while it's fresh out the box. Apple has spent much of its promotional push behind iOS 12 so far focused on features that range from silently useful, like Safari's new privacy powers, to off-puttingly quirky, like animoji tongue-tracking. But on Monday the company detailed an upcoming iPhone upgrade with real-world consequences: It will communicate your exact location to 911 operators when you call, saving valuable time when every second matters.
In the 86th episode, the iPhone Life team tells you everything you need to know about Apple's iOS 12 Public Beta program and whether or not you should join it. Listen is as Donna walks you through the process of preparing yoru device and signing up, and learn the reasons why David is waiting for the official release and and why Sarah says the beta is worth going for.
