On this week's show we shop the Internet and find you three incredible deals on UHD TVs. We also discuss some of the best plot twists in movies that we have seen. Be forewarned, there will be spoilers. We also read your emails and take a look at the week's news. News: Fox unveils ‘Fox One' as name of new streamer YouTube TV Is Now The 4th Largest TV Provider In the United States Free TV is booming tvOS 18.5 just gave your Apple TV 4K a new feature for Dolby Atmos Three Incredible Deals on a UHD TV As a public service the HT Guys have scoured the internet and found you three incredible deals on UHD TVs. These are not refurbished units and were available at the time of this writing. Samsung 70" Crystal UHD 4K HDR TV (DU7200) Price: $479.99 Retailer: Amazon Details: This is noted as the lowest price ever for this 2024 model. It features Samsung's Crystal UHD with 4K, Motion Xcelerator for reduced lag, and HDR (not Dolby Vision) support. Ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a large screen from a top brand. Why It's a Good Deal: At under $480 for a 70-inch 4K TV, this is a steal for a 2024 Samsung model, especially with its HDR capabilities. Hisense 85" U6 Mini-LED ULED 4K UHD Google Smart TV Price: $849.99 Retailer: Amazon Details: This is the lowest price ever for this model, featuring a Mini-LED backlight, quantum dot color, and Google TV for a seamless smart interface. It supports HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, making it great for movies and gaming. Why It's a Good Deal: An 85-inch TV with premium features like Mini-LED and quantum dots at this price is exceptional for large home theater setups. Samsung 55" 4K Crystal UHD DU8000 HDR Smart TV Price: $447.99 Retailer: Amazon Details: Another record-low price for a 2024 Samsung model. It includes HDR (not Dolby Vision), a smart TV interface, and 4K upscaling, suitable for streaming and casual gaming. Why It's a Good Deal: This 55-inch TV offers solid performance for under $500, balancing size and features from a reliable brand. The Best Movie Plot Twists I came across an article that was discussing how a good movie will lead you down one path and then in a “Plot Twist” send you down a different and completely unexpected new path. That got me thinking about what were my most memorable plot twists from movies that I have watched over the years. I have come up with four that have stayed with me. What are your favorites? The Sixth Sense (1999) - The twist redefines the entire story, forcing viewers to rethink every scene. It's iconic for its emotional weight and subtle foreshadowing, often cited as the gold standard of plot twists. In this case you learn that Bruce Willis' character Malcolm Crowe was actually deceased. I hate to admit it but I never saw this coming. The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - The revelation Darth Vader is Luke's Father altered the saga's emotional core and is still one of the most quoted twists ever. Planet of the Apes (1968) - we are talking about the original here with Charlton Heston. The last scene leads up to the final payoff making it one of the most memorable twists in cinema. Se7en (1995) - The climax delivers a horrific surprise that ties the story's themes together. It's a twist that's both brutal and unforgettable, often debated for its boldness. The twist, John Doe played by Kevin Spacey manipulates Mills played by Brad Pitt emotionally to commit the seventh deadly sin. Braden's Pics: Usual Suspects Fight Club Shutter Island Memento

Chuck Joiner, Brittany Smith, David Ginsburg, Brian Flaingan-Arthurs, Jeff Gamet, Marty Jencius, Eric Bolden, Mark Fuccio, Web Bixby, and Jim Rea  debate the issue, with most agreeing it does, though it's unlike traditional wearables such as the Apple Watch. They also discuss Sonos canceling its rumored TV streaming box, viewing it as a smart move in a crowded market. Ideas are shared about how Sonos could better integrate home audio and video without competing directly with Apple or Roku, and some of the challenges of setting up a home theater.  This MacVoices episode is supported by Notion. Mikah addresses a listener question about why their TCL TV and cable box sometimes turn on automatically after a power outage. He explains the likely causes and offers troubleshooting tips. Mikah also shares an important follow-up from a previous episode about internet speeds and the limitations of the Apple TV 4K's Ethernet port. Main Topic: • Richard asks why his TCL TV and cable box sometimes turn on by themselves after brief power outages • Mikah explains that TCL TVs have a "Fast TV Start" feature that keeps the TV in a powered-on state to maintain network connections, causing it to turn back on when power is restored • HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) allows devices to communicate and control each other, which may cause the cable box to turn on when the TV powers on • Mikah advises checking the TV and cable box settings for features like Fast TV Start, sleep/hibernation modes, and HDMI-CEC to adjust the behavior • Many smart home devices, such as lights and robot vacuums, also have auto-on features that should be configured to prevent unexpected behavior after power outages Follow-up: • Thomas points out that in a previous episode (195), the Apple TV 4K used to test internet speeds has a maximum throughput of about 990 Mbps due to its Gigabit Ethernet port • For the listener (Ross) to accurately test their 2.5 Gbps internet speed, they should ensure their Mac supports the full 2.5 Gbps that the adapter provides • The Apple TV 4K's Wi-Fi 6 support may allow for faster speeds than its Ethernet port, depending on the router and environment Don't forget to send in your questions for Mikah to answer during the show! hot@twit.tv Host: Mikah Sargent Download or subscribe to Hands-On Tech at https://twit.tv/shows/hands-on-tech Get episodes ad-free with Club TWiT at https://twit.tv/clubtwit

SimCity inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame Email from Google saying Find My Device network will be fully launched on May 13 Products that we hoped Apple would announce but did not: iPad Mini, iPad speaker dock (similar to Pixel Tablet dock), AirPods Pro 3 with more biometrics, Colorimeter built into the new Apple Pencil Pro Apple surprises: iPad Pro lost the wide angle camera lens, the iPad Pro is too thin - would have preferrred large battery with longer battery life Things we're looking forward to at the June Apple WWDC event: A "smarter" Siri; iPad OS 18 gaining a "real" file system Google I/O will be on May 14. No new hardware products expected (or already announced). So, will this be an all-AI/only-AI event? Visit https://www.masterclass.com/mac for an additional 15% off an annual membership On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we take a look forward at everything Apple is expected to announce in 2024. 2024 is shaping up to be a very busy year for Apple, likely kicking off with the launch of the Vision Pro headset around February. Redesigned iPad Pro models with larger display and OLED technology, the M3 chip, and new accessories are expected to follow in March, as well as next-generation iPad Air models with a new, 12.9-inch size option. watchOS 11, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, visionOS 2, and tvOS 18 will likely be previewed in June at WWDC, potentially alongside the M3 Ultra Mac Studio. A refreshed Apple TV 4K with a faster chip could also launch in the first half of the year. September will likely see the introduction of the iPhone 16, featuring Spatial Video capture and the Action Button, and the iPhone 16 Pro, touting larger displays, a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, and a new “Capture Button.” The “Apple Watch X,” fourth-generation AirPods, refreshed AirPods Max with USB-C are also expected to emerge in September.Apple could close out the year with the seventh-generation iPad mini, the 11th-generation iPad, and a new Mac mini with the M3 and M3 Pro chips. We could also see new MacBook Pros with M4 series chips, but the timing of these devices is more unclear.

So, even if everything else remains constant, the additional CPU and GPU cores on the M3 Max alone should enable significant performance improvements.
