Audio Description Fails – One Mine, One Massive

In this episode of iCantCU, I discuss two major audio description failures—one that's on me, and one that's simply unacceptable. The first happened when I was at the NFB National Center in Baltimore for the IEP Advocacy Academy. I shot a Federation Focus video to show what it's like there, but I totally missed the mark on describing some of the visuals. Thanks to Auphonic's amazing processing, it cleaned up the audio so well that it actually removed sounds people needed to hear—like a ball rolling in a game and doors opening. So, blind folks watching had no idea what was happening for parts of it. My bad. The second fail? A company presented at an OVR meeting and played a video with zero audio description. Just music. No clue what was on the screen. And this was in a room full of people with disabilities—including blind folks. Totally missed the point of accessibility. Plus, I give a quick update on White Canes Connect, which just hit two “best of” podcast lists, and my guest host spot on That Real Blind Tech Show. All the links are below. It saw many interesting announcements, including a harmonized version naming across all the OSs, interesting Apple Intelligence, and other features supported on Apple products.  In this episode, Next Curve's Leonard Lee and I discuss the event's key takeaways, including Apple opening access to its on-device LLM to app developers, Apple Intelligence, iPadOS crossing the boundary into Laptop territory, new features coming to MacOS, and how many VisionOS features are entering other products. We also delve into some of the misses, including Siri, minimal focus on Agentic AI, and others.

Geared Up

Straight from Apple Park at WWDC 2025, Andru Edwards, TechMe0ut, Kevin the Tech Ninja, Stephen Robles break down everything Apple just announced. This episode is a full debrief on the major platform shifts: iOS 26, macOS 26 (Tahoe), iPadOS 26, VisionOS 26, and the all-new Liquid Glass design language that transforms how every Apple platform looks and feels. iOS 26 brings a mix of practical upgrades and AI-infused enhancements. We talk about the new call screening and Hold Assist features that are tailor-made for anyone who hates phone trees, the smarter and more private Apple Intelligence tools that live entirely on-device, and how group chat just got an upgrade with polls, read receipts, and background customizations. Plus, there's the redesigned Camera app and a dedicated Games app finally making iOS more fun and flexible. macOS 26 Tahoe is all about productivity. Spotlight got a serious brain upgrade: you can now launch shortcuts, summarize PDFs, and trigger AI workflows right from the search bar. The new customizable folders and Live Activities make the desktop more dynamic, while Liquid Glass touches give everything a more fluid, transparent look. It's macOS reimagined to be both more powerful and more approachable. iPadOS 26 finally delivers the windowed multitasking experience we've been waiting for. You get Mac-style app windows, a draggable menu bar, better file management, and background exports in Final Cut. For people who want desktop-level productivity with tablet portability, this is the iPad update to watch. visionOS 26 pushes the spatial computing envelope. From lifelike Personas to persistent, room-anchored widgets, Vision Pro feels more immersive and personal than ever. We dive into the new Jupiter environment, support for 360-degree video playback, spatial scenes, and a better system for sharing environments in real-time with people in the same room or across the world. And Liquid Glass is a whole new visual language. Think depth, translucency, and UI that responds to light and motion. Whether it’s in widgets, the lock screen, or native apps, this new design makes Apple’s platforms feel unified and futuristic. Stick around for a sharp, honest take on what’s hype, and what’s actually going to change your workflow.Support the show: http://youtube.com/gearlive/joinSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Apple's WWDC and Google I/O have both come and gone, and... well, we took a look at I/O and it was practically all AI this year, so we skipped that. But Apple's annual developer's conference was surprisingly light on AI features -- in fact, the continuing absence of the AI-driven Siri and other features announced last year is itself a notable story -- so this week we recapped what Apple brought to WWDC instead, including its first major UI refresh in a decade, interesting additions to smaller stuff like Wallet and Shortcuts, the ever-more-laptop-like nature of the iPad, the end of x86 support and beginning of annual versioning for MacOS, and a bunch of other stuff. First up, we plunged headlong into our unofficial Horror Olympics, pitting the recycled slasher spectacle Halloween H2O against the gore-fuelled insanity of Terrifier. Los, my co-host and fellow horror heathen, came in hot with his predictable picks: masked maniacs, jump scares on demand, and “classic” kills that he swears “stand the test of time.” Meanwhile, I defended my unorthodox torchbearers—Disturbia, that suburban teenage thriller where Shia LaBeouf proves you don't need a chainsaw to feel hunted, and Ready or Not, the wildly inventive house-of-cards satire where wedding night turns into lawn-chair carnage. I laid out my argument that clever setup and character-driven tension beat thirty seconds of gratuitous forehead-stabbing any day, and Los grudgingly admitted that yeah, maybe I'm onto something—though he reserves the right to scream “that's so 2004” in my face.Apple's WWDC: When “Liquid Glass” Means “Blinded by the Future”Next, we jumped into Apple's annual pep rally—WWDC 2025—where they unveiled “liquid glass” as if we all suddenly cranked our devices through Drano and into a Black Mirror episode. I recapped the parade of translucent iPhones and speculated that next year we'll be holding our MacBook Air by firelight, because who needs a screen when you can have “milky clarity”? We tore into how Siri is still a glorified paperweight despite promises of AI wizardry, and why the average consumer probably won't care until iOS 26 auto-transforms their phone into a sentient sidekick that orders pizza for them. Los and I marveled at Vision Pro's new “polar vortex mode,” which literally chills your eyeballs to deliver immersion—but at the cost of your retinas. Moral of the story: Apple might soon merge hardware and hallucination, but they still can't figure out why we ask Siri to set alarms and it replies “Good luck with that.”TikTok Ban Scare Round… Whatever This IsIn political theater news, yet another TikTok ban scare is slated for June 19th—cue the gnashing of teeth and frantic downloader guides. I explained why this one's more PR stunt than policy: no executive order on the horizon, just another Washington soundbite designed to keep us distracted while they debate farm subsidies and military spending. Rumor has it Elon Musk weighed in—between tweets about Dogecoin dips—but I assure you, the app empire isn't crumbling (yet). So don't uninstall: keep those 15-second dance routines and cat lip-syncs flowing.TikTok's Jay Renshaw: The “Chit” Series That Actually ChitsSpeaking of TikTok, I fell down the rabbit hole of Jay Renshaw's “Chit” series—videos titled things like “Golf Chit,” “Wedding Chit,” and my personal favorite, “Corporate Chit.” This guy somehow distills every cringe corporate ritual into sub-30-second vignettes that feel like airport bathroom graffiti come to life. I shared my top picks and why, if you need a crash course in humanity's most bizarre habits, this is your masterclass. Warning: you may start narrating your own life with dramatic “Chit” captions—totally normal.Wedding DJ Confessional: When Photographers Duel with CaffeineIn a rare “real life” detour, I recounted my latest gig—spinning tracks at a wedding reception where the photographer, fresh from a bout of over-caffeination, chugged three cans of Hard Mountain Dew thinking it was Sprite. I described the ensuing dad-dance chaos as his shutter finger trembled like a seismic sensor. The bride and groom thought it was performance art. I thought it was a liability. Congratulations to Deb and Kev for capturing every jittery shot of Uncle Bob's twerking meltdown.Joe Exotic for President? Biden's Surprising Pardon PitchOn the political front, we dove into Joe Biden's off-the-cuff suggestion to free Joe Exotic—and no, I'm not making this up for clicks. ..
