It's been three weeks since we last record and, wow, has a lot happened. The Sounders have played four matches, going 1-0-3, made two huge signings and, most recently, suffered one particularly painful loss. By now, you've surely heard that Chad Marshall has decided to retire, effective immediately. The decision, best we can tell, was a bit sudden, but also somewhat forced by the knowledge that there was some degredation going on in his surgically repaired knee. Marshall was one of just two players remaining from the Sounders 2014 double-winning squad, was still one of the best defenders in the league at the age of 34 and was genuinely considered one of the most popular player among teammates. Luckily, it looks like the Sounders are in a good position to cover for his loss. Roman Torres has been playing well, going 90 minutes in all three games last week. The Sounders also have signed Marshall's expected longterm replacement, Ecuador international Xavier Arreaga. Arreaga was one of two deadline day signings, with the other being Joevin Jones. This week's music: Perry Como - "Seattle", "RVIVR - "Ocean Song", Woody Guthrie - "Roll On Columbia", "Your Journey Begins" - OurMusicBox (Jay Man) (CC BY 4.0) Thanks to James Woollard, Sounders Public Address Announcer, for doing our sponsor reads. Tonight on Sounders Weekly with Jackson Felts, we cover Seattle's breaking news of signings including Ecuadorian centerback Xavier Arreaga and the return of Joevin Jones with Niko Moreno of Sounder at Heart as well as Tacoma Defiance Play-By-Play Voice Andrew Harvey, who also discusses everything Tacoma soccer. Then Houston Dynamo Reporter Jesus Acevedo Jr. joins Jackson to preview Saturday's match against the Sounders at CenturyLink Field.
We wouldn't be happy if we didn't have a mediocre team to support. Since the Sounders are in great shape, still first in the West, it's time to crap on US Soccer. The B-Team covers the miserable USA v Costa Rica home appearance in beautiful New Jersey, and speculates on lineups and hope for USA v Honduras. Spoiler alert: defense was a garbage fire. We preview the upcoming Galaxy match at the Clink 9/10, discuss Joevin Jones status, other possible international callups, and we sink our teeth into #suarezwatch. Yeah. Sorry about that last one. We also get a look in to Lincoln Abes Women's Soccer v Foss, offer a late invite to watch the match and save Nate a bunch of money on drinks in the process. Seriously, support high school athletics, and if you want to see Cat coach, come visit the Lincoln Bowl in beautiful Tacoma, Washington throughout the season.
7-0-2 doesn't lie. First Place in the West is also a pretty decent truth. We love truth here at Flounders B-Team, and this roster is The Truth. (Joevin Jones news notwithstanding.) The crew minus Cat covers the Loons and does a quick preview of the midweek Vancouver match. We have an interview with Mike Pacific of TA fame (@atlanticPDX) on the State of the Rose City Union, and give our own quick takes on where we're headed on Sunday, as well as what we *LOVE TO HATE* about Portland. No Holds Barred.
Tom and Riley are finally back together and the guys had a lot to talk about. The guys first start by talking about some recent MLS rumors around Joevin Jones, Dom Dwyer, Nigel De Jong, Lee Nguyen, and Alex. Riley talks about his experience in the press box at the Orlando City vs Atlanta game. Mike Petke also had a really fun rant last week that we had to talk about! TREY! The U.S. won a Gold Cup, the Galaxy fired Onalfo and hired Sigi, Bob Bradley is the LAFC head coach, the Galaxy signed JDS, and much more! It’s been an interesting couple weeks to be a Seattle Sounders fan. The Sounders, of course, won their first game of the year, a confidence-building win over the New York Red Bulls. The goals from Clint Dempsey, Jordan Morris and Harry Shipp all doing their part to aid in the good feelings. The game also featured standout performances from Joevin Jones, Cristian Roldan and even Gustav Svensson, who’s proving himself to be a regular Swedish Army Knife. But then Dempsey went on the international stage and bagged himself a hat trick. That doesn’t do much for the Sounders directly, but it sure is nice knowing that the Designated Player appears to be back to his old self. Speaking of Svensson, we also got to interview him. He’s got some great stories about playing in Crimea at the time of the Russian invasion and apparently even played a game in Turkey in front of a 45,000-strong crowd of all women. Definitely worth a listen.

Review of the previous week is the focus of Ep. 103. Vancouver dropped their CCL Semifinal 1st leg 2-0 at Tigres. The massive Tuesday game in Monterrey kicked off a slate of four matches in MLS Week 3 for our clubs stretching from Tuesday to Sunday. Whitecaps took a disappointing 2-0 home loss against Canadian rival Toronto FC on Saturday before Portland and Seattle put on a pair of shows. First Timbers overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit in a battle of unbeatens with Houston, storming back for a convincing 4-2 victory. We debate whether or not Portland are the top side in MLS right now. In the league's lone Sunday match of the week, Seattle dropped their title banner and handed NY Red Bulls their first loss of the season. Joevin Jones, Nico Lodeiro and Jordan Morris all contributed as Sounders won their first home game of the season. Preview for the next week focuses on Portland's match at Columbus, a rematch of MLS Cup 2015.
