SUBSCRIBE TO FIVE STRIPE FINAL ON PATREON HERE Dirty South Soccer had a chance to sit down with Atlanta United's eSports athlete Paulo Neto. In this interview, we will dive into Paulo's background, what it's like to compete in a big tournament and how he prepares, and how the growth of gaming and eSports has changed his life. While globetrotting around the world playing Fifa against the best players in the world is undoubtedly an amazing life experience, it hasn't come without hard work and the necessary results for Paulo. After starting competition in local tournaments in his native Brazil, Neto rose up the ranks and began to compete in bigger and more competitive tournaments until 2019 when he competed in a global tournament in Atlanta and signed with Atlanta United in December of that year. After the turbulence caused by Covid shortly after Neto's signing, he has found his form in 2022 in a big way. The eMLS tournament is broken up into three parts (think of it like Liga MX's Apertura, Clausura and Liguilla [playoffs]) where Neto finished as runner up in eMLS League Series 1, a semifinalist in eMLS League Series 2, and then won eMLS Cup. Paulo and Vini Leiva, Atlanta United's other eSports athlete, both competed in the Global Series Playoff in London last week, a competition between the best players in the world where competitors can earn a berth to the FIFAe 2022 World Cup. Paulo finished in the top 32 gamers in the world. That World Cup event takes place next week, and you can follow all of his action on Atlanta United's Twitch, as well as an ongoing behind-the-scenes exclusive documentary from Atlanta United on their YouTube channel. The 2022 season starts on Sunday! The LA Galaxy are planning on a full-capacity crowd (one of the first since the pandemic began in 2020), and the club will do everything it can to make New York City FC's first regular-season game since winning MLS Cup an uncomfortable affair. Your hosts for today's show, Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira, want to get you ready for everything you can experience before the game, at the stadium, and during the game. Josh and Eric will start by updating you on a former LA Galaxy II player, Jorge Hernandez, who was playing his football in Ukraine. And how he's on his way back to the United States. The guys will also make sure you're prepared for Soccerfest. Will you be getting a quasar haircut? Or maybe you're interested in schooling an eMLS player at FIFA? Or perhaps you're interested in pushing Josh out of line for pupusas? The guys will also get you through the busy league schedule for the weekend and tell you which game you should be watching on Saturday! But there's also some coverage of the Galaxy's in-person media availability and why Greg Vanney doesn't really want to create some confusion at right back. And will Douglas Costa start? The guys have an argument for that situation, and Josh will try and convince you as to why the formation won't really matter. Finally, Eric and Josh will get you ready for New York City FC's invasion of Dignity Health Sports Park. And tell you why FiveThirtyEight doesn't think the Galaxy really stand a chance against the defending MLS champions. Are you ready for 34 games of excitement? Are the Galaxy a better team than last year? Where will they finish? The good news is that they'll start answering all those questions on Sunday.
The gang is back after a little bit of a break, in a new home. The lads are live from Subaru Park as they go over the recent Union signings, talk about road trips in the future, eMLS and the state of US Men's Soccer
For the final time in 2021, the boys are at World Famous Filimonster Studios to record an episode of “The Most LAFC Podcast on Earth”, Defenders of the Banc! There is SO much news to discuss since our pasting at the hands of the Commerce City Rapids, and Filly and Scarf try to get to ALL of it! This offseason saw, without a doubt, the most significant player movement of any of our first four seasons. El Profe, Eduard Atuesta, is gone, and not to a club that many could have predicted. Eduard gets to try to make it a Copa Libertadores three-peat for Brazil's Palmeiras. Also gone is the only coach we have ever known, Bob Bradley, as he heads north of the border to drink Labatt's and coach his son, Michael, at Toronto. He's been given the keys to the kingdom, eh, as he was named both head gaffer and Sporting Director at TFC. Also gone is an unsung hero who truly has been there from the beginning, Defender of the Banc Tristan Blackmon. Picked with our second ever SuperDraft pick in 2018, Tristan leaves behind a legacy of grit, toughness, and a fun social media follow. Who will play keeper? With Jamal Blackman being given his walking papers and Pablo Sisniega traded to the new Al Raitt FC, Charlotte, Tomas Romero is the only keeper under contract as of the recording of Episode 178. Also gone, as of now, are Raheem Edwards, Jordan Harvey, Daniel Crisostomo, Alvaro Quezada, and Michee Ngalina. LAFC has also begun to re-tool, or “tweak”, as JT put it, by bringing in two players with bona fide MLS Cup experience. The newest Defender of the Banc, Franco Escobar, comes to us by way of Atlanta United, where he scored the second goal in their 2-0 MLS Cup win over Portland in 2018. The Argentinian looks to help the Black and Gold on the wings. Fresh off winning MLS Cup with NYCFC in 2021, then being drafted by Charlotte in the Expansion Draft, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi lands with LAFC by way of a trade with MLS's newest club. In the mold of a Danny Musovski-type, or, dare we say, Adama Diomande, Israel knows how to put the ball in the back of the net and provides much-needed depth when Chicho, Rayito, or Vela are off the pitch. And don't forget, Defenders… we also get a full season of Chicho Arango, a healthy Eddie Segura, and (at least) a full half-season of a healthy Carlos Vela. (We explain, don't worry.) All we need now is a head coach. And a starting center midfielder. And a starting keeper. And a little more depth. Also on this episode, we celebrate Chicho Arango taking home the Newcomer of the Year Award for 2021, the U19's as they advance in Open Cup Qualifying, and Lee Nguyen's NWSL trophy! We get a new toy in Filimonster Studios, we circle some key dates on the calendar that we are looking forward to, and Scarf doesn't have Covid (according to two tests) even though he feels and sounds like death. Which inaugural team player signed to coach with Sister Jean over at Loyola-Chicago? How is Diego Rossi doing in Turkey or Christian Ramirez in Scotland? And why does Filly now have a vested interest in our eMLS player? You'll have to listen to find out! Finally, stick around for the end, please. We know it's long, but Filly and Scarf both chat about their New Year's Resolutions, or as Filly says, goals for 2022. This may be it for 2021, but we can't wait to experience what's in store for 2022! Defenders Nation, thank you, and we love you! Here's to all the best in 2022 to the millions… and millions!

Season 4 is almost upon us, and, with the preseason about to begin, Filly and the Scarf are here to catch you up on all the Black and Gold news from the past few weeks! The biggest news of the last 11 months or so MUST be the potential return of at least some supporters to the Cathedral of the Black and Gold, Banc of California Stadium, starting on April 1. As long as numbers continue to progress in a positive direction, we can expect at least some of us to be there for our boys!LAFC announced a rather abbreviated preseason schedule, featuring an intrasquad scrimmage and two games against the Revolution. It's the first Scheduling with the Scarf segment of 2021!LAFC also finalized two incredibly important partnerships, one with the Las Vegas Lights of the USL and another with Real So Cal and their youth squads. The pipeline has now been extended through Southern California and even into the Nevada desert! LAFC brought in Steve Cherundolo to head the USL club, bringing a USMNT and Bundesliga legend's pedigree to the pipeline. From youth opportunities, to the Academy, to USL, and on to the parent club, the Black and Gold system is stronger than ever. We couldn't be happier for our Athletic Training staff, Sean and Luis, as they were named Staff of the Year according to PSATS. Our first captain in club history, Laurent Ciman, retired to join Thierry Henry's staff on Club de Foot just in time to be deserted by the leader of the Foot Clan, becoming the second former LAFC member to join the coaching ranks this offseason. (Benny!) On the player news front, Uruguay hopes Diego Rossi and the recently loaned Brian Rodriguez can give their national team a lift. It hasn't exactly been smooth sailing for Rayito in Spain, either. it's a pair of U-23 national team call-ups for Tomas Romero (El Salvador) and Marco Farfan (USA). Hopefully, they'll still be on the final rosters for their respective countries when they are announced March 8. Our history-making trio of teens, Erik Duenas, Tony Leone, and Christian Torres, were all called in to join El Tri's U-17 camp, marking another first in their wonderful careers. Finally, our eMLS stud, RemiMartinn, makes one more push for the eMLS Cup in the Last Chance Qualifier, beginning March 16. We are back and couldn't be happier. Our fans are getting healthier, our club is practicing again, and we are together in World Famous Filimonster Studios for another episode! Let's get back to the Banc!

The USWNT absolutely demolished Thailand in their opening match of the World Cup. People had questioned the strength of this USA squad, and hopefully they were silenced. Even with a win, there was still lots of drama since many thought the US should not have run up the score and celebrated every goal against a weaker opponent, and we talk about it. We're also joined by eMLS pro Mike Labelle of the New York Red Bulls to discuss the World Cup and talk comedy.
