Traders can become more disciplined by shifting their mindsets to valuing the process of "good trading" over good trading results. This isn't easy by any means, but if we want consistent long-term results, it's what needs to be done. Recently, Major League Soccer (MLS) adapted a new style of evaluating teams and individual talent by using a scale called the Quality of Play Rankings. In this episode, I'm going to show you how we can take this same scale & use it to properly evaluate and improve our trading.Get your FREE Trading Computer Builders/Buyers Guidehttps://www.tradingcomputerbuyersguide.com/optin-629312741738938873920Your Trading Coach Akil

fWotD Episode 2868: 2020 Seattle Sounders FC season Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 12 March 2025 is 2020 Seattle Sounders FC season. The 2020 season was Seattle Sounders FC's twelfth season in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top flight of professional club soccer in the United States. It was the 37th season played by a professional team bearing the Sounders name, which had originated in 1974 with the first incarnation of the franchise. The team was under the management of Brian Schmetzer in his fourth full MLS season as head coach of the Sounders.Seattle were the reigning MLS Cup champions, having defeated Toronto FC 3–1 in the 2019 final at their home stadium, CenturyLink Field (renamed Lumen Field in November 2020). The season began with two home matches but was suspended on March 12, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the second Sounders match had reduced attendance due to the pandemic's spread in the Seattle metropolitan area. MLS resumed with a special tournament in July hosted in the Orlando area, and teams returned home a month later to play in matches behind closed doors. The Sounders only played 22 regular season matches, mostly against opponents in the Western Conference, due to a shortened schedule and several canceled matches. The 2020 Campeones Cup was canceled along with the 2020 U. S. Open Cup.Seattle qualified for the 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs as the second-placed team in the Western Conference, determined by points per game due to the unbalanced number of games played by MLS teams during the season. The Sounders defeated Los Angeles FC, FC Dallas, and Minnesota United FC at home to win a second consecutive conference championship and qualify for MLS Cup 2020, where they lost 3–0 to Columbus Crew SC.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 03:46 UTC on Wednesday, 12 March 2025.For the full current version of the article, see 2020 Seattle Sounders FC season on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Justin.

Tom Williams’ journey to Head of Performance and Sport Science for Major League Soccer (MLS) powerhouse, the Los Angeles (LA) Galaxy, began at a crossroads: pursue traditional coaching or medical pathways. As a soccer “Swiss Army knife,” he embraced early sport science alongside coaching, building a career defined by collaboration and innovation. At the Galaxy, Williams is part of a web of support that uses rich data storytelling tailored to stakeholders and players, guiding decisions and infusing value in every encounter. This system drives their three key pillars: winning championships — including their recent record-breaking sixth MLS Cup — developing a robust academy pipeline, and leading innovation. In MLS’s “cultural melting pot,” Williams balances diverse backgrounds and short-term demands like fixture congestion while employing sustainable long-term strategies. With a unique full-time cognitive department and creative approaches like dodgeball warm-ups, he combines trust and ingenuity to elevate performance and presents a blueprint for those exploring emerging sport science. Like, bring it. If you're the intern, be the best intern that they've ever had. If you're the fifth S&C, then be the best fifth S&C coach they've ever had. Because for me, everything matters all of the time, and those things never go unnoticed. Even though you might not see it eventually, you keep doing that every single day and being that best person. Then you will get there. It's just inevitable.” 28:30 “There's so many sports out there that need an edge. They need something that someone else isn't doing. And if you can provide that gap, then it enhances that team, that performance department, that medical department. It enhances all those things just by bringing that 1% something that's novel.” 29:55

It took place on November 21, 1999, at Foxboro Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and was contested by D. C. United and the Los Angeles Galaxy in a rematch of the inaugural 1996 final that had been played at the same venue. Both teams finished atop their respective conferences during the regular season under new head coaches and advanced through the first two rounds of the playoffs.United won 2–0 with first-half goals from Jaime Moreno and Ben Olsen for their third MLS Cup victory in four years. Galaxy defender Robin Fraser left the match with a broken collarbone during the opening minutes and goalkeeper Kevin Hartman collided with John Maessner at the end of the half. Olsen was named the most valuable player of the match for his winning goal, which was scored off a misplayed backpass. The final was played in front of 44,910 spectators—a record for the MLS Cup. It was also the first MLS match to be played with a standard game clock and without a tiebreaker shootout following a rule change approved by the league days earlier. The Galaxy blamed their performance on decisions by referee Tim Weyland and the quality of the pitch at Foxboro Stadium, which had a narrowed width and was damaged by an earlier National Football League game. Both finalists qualified for the 2000 CONCACAF Champions' Cup, which was hosted in Southern California. The tournament's semifinals featured a rematch of the MLS Cup final and was decided in a penalty shootout that the Galaxy won. You have to know how to manage, lead, and collaborate with different groups and different departments and practitioners from other areas.” 8:35 “Learning to be a good mentor. I think that most people think of themselves, if you go in a room and ask most coaches, ‘Hey, do you think you're a mentor?’ Everyone would say, ‘Oh yeah, I'm a good mentor.’ But very few of us have ever been taught [those] kind of mentorship skills and what that means, and how do you mentor young practitioners. And are you connecting with them in the way they need, not just how you want to connect with them and lead them.” 27:25 “You do always want to focus on some of the hard skills of the interview process, but I think we don't in the interview process ask enough questions around is someone stress resilient, can someone be vulnerable, can someone admit they make mistakes, can someone show that they have a growth mindset. How do they handle when they don't know the answer to something?” 30:30

When the United States was awarded the 1994 World Cup, no top-flight professional league existed in America. But, part of the proposal to FIFA included the creation of a new domestic league, and US Soccer went to work creating Major League Soccer (MLS) in parallel to preparing for the 94 World Cup. The magnitude of the event delayed the start of MLS, but when it finally kicked off in 1996, the league featured US Men's National Team and international stars expected to draw crowds to the inaugural season's games. Jeff Agoos had storied career at the University of Virginia, and was reunited with Bruce Arena as part of the first DC United team. He played in the very first MLS game and was a key part of the league's first great success story. Fulham FC is among the most storied clubs in the history of English football. And, uniquely, it holds a special place in the history of soccer in America as well. After Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed bought the club in 1997, he promised the club would return to the England's top flight within five years. The owner began spending in the transfer market to improve the club's roster. And one unexpected source of talent emerged starting in 1999 with the arrival of Marcus Hahnemann from Colorado Rapids on Major League Soccer (MLS) - the United States. Within a few years, Fulham brought key players into its squad from the US, those players became club legends, and the concept of Fulhamerica was born. Tony Banks, journalist and author of The Great Adventure: Al-Fayed's Rollercoaster Ride with Fulham FC, joined Founding Futbol to walk through the progression of the Fulhamerica evolution. He shares his thoughts on what prompted the influx of American talent, how some players fit and how the new era of American talent at the club differs from the first wave. Just a day prior, there were approximately 6,000 subscriptions, but this figure skyrocketed to a staggering 110,000 on July 21 when Messi played his first match in the Leagues Cup. In a recent blog post, Antenna described the impact of Messi's arrival as the "Messi Effect," noting that this level of growth for a year-old streaming package was both unique and profound. Typically, sport-specific streaming services see a surge in sign-ups at the start of the season, followed by gradual additions due to significant games or pricing promotions. However, the statistics reveal that nearly half of all MLS Season Pass sign-ups occurred in July following Messi's entry into the league, underscoring the enormous interest he brought to Major League Soccer. Antenna's research also uncovered that 15% of MLS Season Pass subscribers also subscribed to Apple TV+, which is home to Apple's scripted programming, including popular shows like "The Morning Show" and "Ted Lasso." Additionally, nearly half of the new subscribers were already Apple TV+ subscribers before adding MLS Season Pass, which costs an additional $12.99 per month, to their subscription. It's worth noting that Antenna's data only covers sign-ups in the United States, and the global appeal of the international superstar likely extends even further. Apple has not disclosed the exact number of subscribers to the service. However, Apple's Senior Vice President of Services, Eddy Cue, recently stated that it is performing "much better than forecasted" in terms of subscriptions and viewership. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, echoed this sentiment during an August earnings call, acknowledging that Messi's move to Inter Miami had a positive impact on their streaming service. Messi actively promotes the MLS Season Pass on match days by sharing sign-up links on his Instagram stories. This is not surprising, as reports suggest that his deal with Inter Miami includes a share of the revenue generated from new MLS Season Pass subscribers. Last summer, Apple secured a groundbreaking 10-year, $2.5 billion deal to stream MLS matches internationally, marking the tech giant's first major sports agreement. Messi's signing has undoubtedly made this media rights deal even more valuable than initially anticipated, solidifying his status as a global soccer icon with a profound impact on the American soccer scene. Reference article: https://edition.cnn.com/2023/09/05/business/leo-messi-apple-tv-signups/index.html

And we started putting together pieces of how are the coaches going to plan training based off of the training loads that we’re getting from the heart rate and different drills and things like that.” 25:00 “When we’re able to show them, I think, that we’re individualizing as much as we can, then they understand, OK, like, they’re doing it for my best interest.” 31:55 “They may be running GPS with a few teams, but not necessarily have the time to really sift through the data and make use of it and make it actionable. So is that something that you can craft out for yourself? If that’s something you’re interested in, can you say, hey, you know, like let me figure this out. Let me do this for you. Because you can create an opportunity for yourself to not only learn the tech and learn the procedures and kind of the best practices, but then also become a valuable part of what they’re doing. And you never know what that’s going to turn into, right? It could turn into an employment opportunity or a recommendation or referral to somewhere else when someone asks.” 35:05 “I think the other thing is just being adaptable, you know, like, willing to flex and adapt, not only to jobs and things like that as far as what you’re doing day to day, but situations, circumstances. If you’re very rigid in what you do in your approach, you’re probably not going to succeed in this space.” 37:50
