The BarcaBreakdown discuss the final preseason game vs. New York Red Bulls, as goals from Ousmane Dembele and Memphis Depay led to a 2-0 victory for Barca. Xavi now leads the squad to the Joan Gamper game before the La Liga season begins. With Gavi, Busquets, and Frenkie de Jong starting in midfield along with Raphinha-Lewandowski-Dembele up front, a clearer picture of Xavi's preferred 11 comes into mind. Up front, with Ansu Fati recovering and Ferran Torres still on the sideline, the trio of Raphinha-Lewandowski-Dembele seems like the clear favorite. The two energetic wingers provide incredible speed and driblling, while Lewandowski looks primed to pour in goals (though he hasn't yet this preseason). In the midfield, Pedri and Busquets are clear starters for the game against Rayo. Frenkie De Jong and Gavi are battling for the 3rd starting spot, though the BarcaBreakdown believes Frenkie is better suited to play in midfield right now. In defense, Xavi has a tougher decision as he still hasn't worked with Christensen or Jules Kounde enough. We expect to see Araujo start alongside either Eric Garcia or Pique. Jordi Alba is guaranteed to start at left back, although it was comforting to see Balde play well against Red BUlls. It will be seen if Sergino Dest, the only true right back, will start, or if Araujo/Kounde will begin to take time at the RB position.

For Austin Da Luz, soccer was in his blood! He grew up on the soccer fields at Wake Unversity with dad coaching the women's program. After a successful university career and a national championship, Da Luz was drafted in the first round of Major League Soccer by NY Red Bulls in 2010. After a few years in the MLS, Austin signed with the then Carolina Railhawks in 2012. Other than playing one year in Orlando, Da Luz made Raleigh home and played for 7 years for the Railhawks and rebrand North Carolina FC. Austin sharing a bit about himself, "I've always sort of bucked against the idea that all I am is a soccer player. That idea is always in the back of our heads as athletes but my personality and the way I've tried to make this transition [to life after sport] easier over the past several years to buck against that idea and to do things away from soccer to give myself the confidence that i would be ok when it ended." After retiring, the struggle was real when interviewing and talking to potential employers: "I found that when people are looking to hire they really value the skills that athletes bring, they really value the non-traditional experience you know, but when it came down to it [I was told] 'you don't have enough tradition experience for us to give you a chance.'" Hear the authentic and real ups and downs that Austin experienced as he navigated retirement, the job market, and the joys of the birth of his son; all in the midst of COVID, quarantine, shutdowns, and all that 2020 has brought us. The Heroic Mindset

Jesse Marsch is the only American coach to be coaching in the Champions League in Europe. His rise to this role is an interesting story - how he has built championship teams is even more fascinating. He played 14 seasons in the MLS and then went on to coach the first season for the Montreal Impact and the NY Red Bulls where he was named MLS coach of the year. Before becoming head coach is Salzburg, he was the assistant coach at RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga. What makes Jesse unique is that he brings a clear strategy to the culture of the teams he coaches. He talks about instilling important beliefs such as fearlessness and creating a vocabulary around words that define who you are as a team that help establish identity and reinforce beliefs. We talk about the differences between coaching soccer in the US and 'football' in Europe. There were many challenges for Jesse to face along the way. Would his methodology of teamwork and his idea of leadership work in the European system? Also find out what methods he uses to create and instill motivation in the teams he has coached, how he approaches losing and how he teaches his players to overcome challenges. As a bonus, find out the secret to where some of Jesse's best ideas come from! email: info@theheroicmindset.com http://theheroicmindset.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUTFcxaPeGTYrbWAX2Jcg1A
