Familiar faces from Woodbine were winning in the U.S. - Kazushi Kimura rode a Tall Oaks Farm-bred filly to a huge upset in a Stakes race at huge odds at Santa Anita. We've got wins at Aqueduct from Sofia Vives and Sahin Civaci. Marty Drexler and Bruno Schickedanz scored at Gulfstream. We don't know the creeps who let War Envoy, a Breeders' Cup horse end up starving, emaciated and knee high in mud, but we do have Olivia Dixon of the Kentucky Humane Society to tell us how the horse was rescued. Katie Larsen runs Southern Belle Thoroughbreds. In 2024, she found homes for 200 retired thoroughbreds, but suffered a terrible accident that has her on crutches. We go to Mohawk Park for the last race of 2024 and the first of this year, and we have another one of those amazing nights at the track from James MacDonald. Bern Tobin tells us about the incredible Get Around Town, now retired after racing 459 times and how did we manage to get the Beach Boys in this one?

Katie's battle with Celiac disease started at a young age; sadly, her early cries for help were brushed aside as ramblings of a child, so the disease continued to inflict its damage. While in high school, doctors told her that she was too frail and underweight to participate as a runner on the cross country team. She struggled with symptoms all through college until a blood test revealed a shockingly low level of red blood cells, resulting in a trip to the emergency room. After a few days in a hospital, a doctor finally started to suspect Celiac disease. Tests confirmed that she had Celiac. This point marked the beginning of her comeback. After figuring out how to completely avoid any consumption of gluten, her body responded. She continued to grow stronger and started running again, which eventually lead to a triumphant string of marathon finishes. In this episode, we'll talk in-depth about Celiac disease and what makes it so difficult to diagnose. We'll also discuss the Celiac Disease Foundation's list of 20 Things You Might Not Know About Celiac Disease. Then, we'll hear Katie tell the story of her Celiac Disease journey and how she emerged as a healthy and strong runner. Her passion for running runs so deep that she spends her days discussing all things running as the Manager of the Appalachian Running Company in Carlisle, PA. Techstination interview: Amazon offers to tips to get best Prime Day deals: Amazon's Katie Larsen
Two best friends/solo women talk all about life on the road and what's it like. From safety and overnight parking to female friendships and community, Sydney and Katie go back & forth on exactly what it means to live the "van life" as a woman.
On this episode of RV Miles, we have an interview with Katie Larsen, editor-in-chief of go-van.com, about her life as a solo traveler, and how the #vanlife movement has swept the world. We also have some tips for boosting your RV fuel economy and saving some cash. In the news, four big stories: a new National Park, a change to the popular Roadtrippers app, a Jellystone camp-resort that is excluding certain types of RVs, and the sad lay-off of the entire staff of 800 people at the Erwin-Hymer (Roadtrek) plant.
Katie Larsen is a mother to three little children and she shares her growth and transformation through the different seasons of motherhood. She describes the period of humble surrender that occurred after a challenging pregnancy and parenting in a way that she knew wasn't what it should be. This episode is full of incredible paradigm shifts that had me taking notes throughout the entire interview.
In our conversation we talked about the challenges we, as humans, face when the idea of "normal" gets challenged based on what we WANT rather than what we feel we SHOULD do.

There’s a lot to traveling on the road with a romantic partner that is hard to explain with a social media post-- things like navigating tight living quarters, the special type of intimacy that comes with keeping a similar sleep schedule and buying all of the same groceries, and the behavioral change that happens when you know that there’s nowhere to retreat in the heat of a disagreement. It’s for this reason that Laura spends this episode bringing us all a little closer to some of the realities of traveling with a significant other by taking a peek into the lives of three different couples living on the road through the females within them: Katie Larsen, Juliana Linder, and Marisa and Vanessa Roaman. Tune in for stories on what to do if your partner is an early bird, how getting space from your partner is really a form of intimacy in itself, and that couples who clean together, stay together.
