Besides his seminal work with Allison Moorer, Kenny has produced albums by the Mavericks, Josh Turner, Joan Baez, Toby Keith and just recently Hayes Carll. And his studio resume is extensive and diverse, including work with Etta James, Chris Knight, Lee Ann Womack, Amy Grant, Jon Randall, Bob Seeger, and his wife of many years, Ashley Cleveland. Now he's released the first solo album in his career. Also in the hour, the Bros. Mike Farris - "Havana Santa," a 2021 single on Compass Records. This week, we are continuing a long-held tradition of featuring Christmas-themed songs selected by Brian Foss, host of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer. Brian has been doing a punk rock Christmas special every year since 2004 and has been a Christmas Day on-air DJ since 2012. He will be hosting his non-traditional Christmas broadcast from noon to 6pm on Saturday, December 25th and then will be back on air later that night for Punk Rock Xmess 2021 at 9pm. No standards are played, only original X-Mess songs, most with a humorous bent. Let's be honest, there's not a whole lot that's sexy about Santa Claus. But have you met his brother? Ow ow! Grammy Award winning gospel, blues, and roots artist Mike Farris introduces a new character to the holidays with “Havana Santa.” The heated Latin track swaps the snow for the sea, where we meet the rum-drinking, mambo-dancing, red Camino-driving brother of St. Nick that's living a very sultry life south of the border. Apparently, the inspiration to make a Latin-style Christmas song came after Farris and his 13-piece holiday band covered a Marc Anthony song during their annual “Soul of Christmas” show in Nashville one year and it was an absolute crowd-pleaser. Farris had this to say about the song: “The whole approach to writing “Havana Santa” was the same approach to the Soul of Christmas shows, and that is to bring maximum amounts of fun to the holiday season and to just fill the season with great memories and cheek numbing joy!” The track features a long list of long-time collaborators and includes six Grammy award winners among them: Derrek Phillips (drums), Dave Roe (bass), Kenny Greenberg (guitars), Kevin Mckendree (piano/hammond organ), Giovanni Rodriguez (percussion), Jim Hoke (tenor and baritone sax/accordion), Steve Hermann (trumpet), Yates Mckendree (bass), Saunya Clayborn (singer), Samson White (singer), additional singers are Dave Roe, Giovanni Rodriguez, Jamie-Sue Seal, Cassidy Zuver, Derrek Phillips and Kenny Greenberg. Get a taste of the fun that Farris and his collaborators bring to their Soul of Christmas events by watching a snippet of their performance of “Havana Santa” at this year's show at the link below. Hayes Carll is a Grammy nominated singer songwriter from Texas. For over 20 years he has been writing and releasing albums to critical acclaim. His songs are honest, and real. Exploring topics with a sensibility few other artists show. He recently released a new album called “You Get It All” co-produced by Kenny Greenberg and his wife Allison Moorer. It's chock full of amazing songs. I had a chance to chat with him about it recently. I hope ya dig it.

The Show On The Road with Z. Lupetin

This week, we get on the horn with renowned Texas-born singer and deeply observational songwriter Hayes Carll, who is celebrating the release of his seventh LP, the atmospheric country-tinted You Get It All.While some may just be discovering Hayes' lived-in songs which are often spun with dark humor (he admits John Prine and Jimmy Buffett were early inspirations), next year marks the twentieth anniversary of his first album Flowers and Liquor which he wrote while still in college in Arkansas. His acclaimed follow-up Little Rock (2005) remains one of the only self-released albums to make to #1 on the Americana chart. Hard-charging years on the road and humble years before, getting by working long nights at Chili's, Red Lobster and more, made Hayes truly appreciate when his star in the roots circuit began rising. His tongue-and-cheek country kiss off “She Left Me For Jesus” off his breakout major label debut Trouble In Mind (2008) might have shocked mainstream radio programmers, but it brought in a whole new wave of fans who have been diligently following him across the world ever since. KMAG YOYO & Other American Stories came in 2011 and pulled even fewer punches - showing his knack for a devastating hook. "KMAG YOYO" is army-speak for "Kiss my ass, guys, you're on your own."Some artists may bring their wives into the studio as a cute cameo now and again, but Carll is lucky enough to have artist and sought-after producer Allison Moorer on the home team. Together with Kenny Greenberg, she helped bring out a softer, deeper side of Carll on the newest You Get It All - with the standout heartbreaker “Help Me Remember” centering on his experience watching his grandfather in Texas drift away with dementia. Maybe the most fun on the new record comes from the rollicking opener “Nice Things” - which reveals why Carll may not be getting on right-leaning pop-country radio anytime soon, while still winning legions of listeners anyway: it's a countrified conversation between God and her screwed up human subjects on earth... and God is a frustrated (and rightly so) lady. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-show-on-the-road-with-z-lupetin1106/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Every single day I receive multiple emails from listeners saying they are stuck and can't figure out their Enneagram type.  Usually, my first recommendation is to dive into the Subtypes of each number to see if that helps narrow things down. But there is something else to consider…something we have not yet talked about on Typology.  Just as the Enneagram is broken into Triads, it is also broken into Stances--the Dependent Stance, the Withdrawing Stance, and the Aggressive Stance. So, if you're still conflicted, ask yourself which stance are you? Are you someone who is withdrawing?  Are you someone who is assertive?  Or are you someone who is dependent and more compliant? Because oftentimes when you're stuck between two or three types they can each feel very different--like they are in conflict with each other.  And when those types don't fall into the same stance category then knowing your "default stance" can really help iron things out. On today's episode of Typology, Ashley Cleveland and I delve into the stances, right-sizing the personality and how surrender and acceptance are the gateways to everything. It's a great episode you won't want to miss. Since her debut on Atlantic Records in 1991, Ashley Cleveland has recorded 9 critically acclaimed albums.  She has won three Grammys for Best Rock Gospel Album (Lesson of Love, 1995; You Are There, 1998; Before the Daylight's Shot, 2007).  She was the first female to be nominated in that category and the only one to win the award three times.  She has been nominated for six Dove awards and won twice for compilation records (Songs from the Loft: Praise and Worship Album of the year; The Jesus Record: Album of the Year).  She received her fourth Grammy nomination in 2010 for her disc, God Don't Never Change, a collection of spirituals in the Best Traditional Gospel Album category. Three of her albums have been on Billboard's year-end best list (Big Town, Bus Named Desire, Men and Angels Say) and she has been nominated twice for a Nashville Music Award (Lesson Of Love, God Don't Never Change) winning for Lesson Of Love.  She was named Female Vocalist of the year in 2007 by Christianity Today.net and, in addition to her own recordings, has contributed background vocals on over 300 records over the course of her career.   Her 10th album, One More Song, is due for release late in 2017. Ashley is currently the subject of a new documentary from Big Branch productions expected to release in early 2018.  The working title is: Who's The Girl?. Ashley is a writer/essayist and has written a memoir entitled “Little Black Sheep” which was released September 2013 by David C Cook Publishing and she is currently working on two new memoirs. Ashley is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, and lives in Franklin, Tennessee with her husband Kenny Greenberg.  She has three adult children, Rebecca, Henry and Lily.
