POPULARITY
This is a difficult intro to do for this episode. I want to tell you all about my guest Jason Romero to draw you in. But I also don't want to provide any spoilers to our conversation. I just want you to learn about his unbelievable story on your own. Because his story is just that: unbelievable. I promise that when you listen you'll have a few “oh wow” moments, followed by “wait, what?” moments, followed by a “you have got to be kidding me” moments. I'm just glad I get to share his story with you. It's inspiring, it's crazy, it's motivational, it's… well, it' s a lot of things. But mostly it's a story of how a man just wouldn't let his light fade. We all have a story. A journey that has brought us to where we are today. But what about the messes? The hard times we experience along the way? I know that feeling well. I've been there, and so have many others, especially my podcast guest Jason Romero who happens to be a keynote speaker, ran 3,063 miles across the US, author, CEO, attorney, a Paralympian, and holds 10+ World Records just to name a few. And oh yes. He's also blind. John shares that even the messes in your life can be your greatest teacher. They can teach you patience and perseverance, compassion, empathy, humility and something that gets overlooked, serving others. It's not easy to make it through those moments, but it is possible—and it's worth it!You're going to love this episode!
Grit, Guts and Determination: The Leadville Race Series Podcast
Tune in here to this episode of Grits, Guts, and Determination, The Leadville Race Series Podcast, a leading authority for all things Leadville! Host Cole Chlouber, son of race founder Ken Chlouber, takes us on a story-telling journey of the 38-year rich history of this race. We learn all the tips, tricks, and stories from the Leadville community members! Joining us today is Jason Romero, the legally blind Leadville participant who also ran across the country. To kick off the conversation, Cole asks Jason to share how Leadville found him. In 2010, Jason found himself at a crossroads in life, including moving back to Colorado after 6 years and going through a traumatic divorce. He needed something to challenge him, and found Leadville. Jason suffers from tunnel vision, a degenerative disease of the retina which causes him to lose eyesight. He was diagnosed at age 14, and at 52 years old now, is still able to see colors, shapes and movements. Though he had always been athletic, Jason's interest in running began when he saw his Uncle Ted running an indoor 6 day race. Jason's very first marathon was the first Denver International Marathon during his time in college. As of now, he has been at Leadville's start line 6 times and the finish line 5 times. In 2016, Jason took on the transcontinental Run Across America, and finished as the sixth fastest time. This particular race began while Jason was in a deep depression and saw it as a calling. When he returned home, organizations began inviting him to speak about his inspiring life and run. Now, Jason is a keynote speaker and author of Running Into the Darkness, a book detailing his experience. Jason set his personal record at Leadville with a time of 26:02 in 2019. At the age of 49 and with more physical challenges than ever, he shares all about making it in record time on that day. Leadville, Jason believes, has overly prepared him for how to run with a visual disability. In 2019, he released another book, The Success Cycle. It reveals Jason's number one secret to accomplishing all of the things he has: just don't quit. He believes that success is not linear, and failure is an inevitable part of succeeding. Another big lesson Leadville has taught Jason is that if we are not helping others, we are not running our best race. Kids today are more isolated than ever before and need to hear these inspiring stories of struggle and triumph. Finally, Jason shares what word first comes to mind when he hears the word Leadville. Thanks for tuning in! Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe, and we hope to see you on the line in August!

Joining us today on episode 14 is singer/songwriter Alex Southey. On March 31, 2021 Alex released his third album ...And the Country Stirred. Alex utilized email campaigns to connect with his audience during the release process, not only giving them the opportunity to hear his songs first, but asking them to help him determine what his next single should be leading up to the album's release. We talk about results of that approach, and why he'll continue to let his listeners in on that process with musical releases going forward, and why it was the right time to hire a PR company to assist in the album's promotion. Alex also has a really great idea for bringing attention to older releases in the form of B-Sides to new releases. If you have music you would like us to hear, or have a great release day rollout plan you want the world to know about, send an email with your EPK and release plan to: contactreleaseday@gmail.comThank you so much for listening, and Welcome to Release Day!Theme music composed by Evan Denley.Reference Links:Alex Southey's Website - https://www.alexsouthey.com/CFMA - https://folkawards.ca/The Gilberts - https://thegilbertsband.com/homePharis & Jason Romero - http://www.pharisandjason.com/Big Little Lions - https://www.biglittlelions.com/CBC Searchlight - https://www.cbc.ca/music/searchlight/#/welcomeStranded Fest - https://www.facebook.com/StrandedFestRelease Day Spotify Playlist - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0GbiC5YorhQObK1n3FndhJ?si=l0sbbP1ARnaWaDbFRVzpEwRelease Day Website - https://releasedayseries.com/"Release Day," an ongoing series where we sit down with Canadian musicians of all genres to discuss their latest releases from singles to albums, and their strategy behind releasing it to the world.https://releasedayseries.com/https://twitter.com/ReleasedaySrshttps://www.instagram.com/releaseday_series/

Jason Romero won the 100-mile race in the American Heroes Run in Longmont, Colorado this past September in roughly 20½ hours. Oh yes, and Jason is severely sight-impaired. This was actually one of Jason's lesser achievements. Years ago, Jason found himself divorced, unemployed, and in a deep depression with a degenerative eye condition that has left him with limited light perception. Feeling a calling out of the blue to run across America, he dedicated the next two years of his life to prepare for, and ultimately run, more than 3,000 miles from California to New York in less than 60 days, averaging 51.5 miles per day, to log the 7th fastest transcontinental foot crossing ever. It was, and remains the only transcontinental foot-crossing by a blind person. He wrote about the run and his other struggles in his book, Running into the Dark. For more on his story, Jason was also on the WASP episode #61 with David.Jason and I talk about struggling with adversity, learning to not give up or give in, to accept one's self for all that one is, and is not. Jason has a new book coming out, the Success Cycle, and he's started a non-profit business called Inspire Connection, which provides motivational speaking opportunities.OK, we're getting down to it. I'm already working on the project to write what I'm calling David's fourth book. Some of you have told me you thought you might have missed the submission deadline, but that's not true. Yet. How about jotting down your David Clark story and getting it to me by mid-March? If you're unsure about length, shoot for 200 to 500 words. Don't worry about exact length, you'll probably get into the flow and write more before you know it. My contact info is in the show notes, silly_billy@msn.com, I'm on FB, and on IG as @stahlor. I can also do a phone interview with you if you prefer.Jason Romero:www.jasonromero.netFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/jason.romero.5283Instagram: @romerorunsHis book, Running Into the Dark:https://www.amazon.com/Running-into-Dark-record-setting-America-ebook/dp/B077V8X889A good Denver Post article about his run across the country:https://www.denverpost.com/2016/03/19/jason-romero-first-legally-blind-runner-to-win-an-ultra-race-aims-to-run-from-los-angeles-to-boston-in-64-days/#:~:text=Jason%20Romero%2C%20first%20legally%20blind%20runner%20to%20win,from%20Los%20Angeles%20to%20Boston%20in%2064%20days

After being declared legally blind as a 12 year old, he wrestled not only with living in a dark world, but with the mental challenges that came along with it. Then he discovered endurance sports. 15 world records later, he is still at it. Jason Romero is Jerry Schemmel's guest this week on Amazing Americans. Hello Runners, It has been awhile. And I am sorry if you are a regular listener for the gap. It won't happen again! Promise! What has been Going On?I spent most of my energy the past two months as Co-Race Director of the (http://www.mauimarathon.com) that was held on Sunday October 13, 2019. I'm glad to say it was a huge success. And then afterward, I took off to Denver, Colorado to visit family, friends and do some Podcast interviews. So I am back in the saddle and you can expect consistency of episodes and some changes for the good! Thank for hanging in! Congratulations to All You Runners!Man, it is hard to believe that the 2019 running season is just about over. I always consider the NYC Marathon as the finale to the major races. However there are still a few races you can catch through the remainder of the year. Now, if you ran a race during the fall, I hope you finished and was satisfied with your results. Running is not so much about time, (well maybe to some), but about the journey as you trained for your race and ultimately successfully crossing the finish line on race day. I've have run 101 marathons and not once in all the years did anyone ask me about my time for any of the races, they just asked what race was my favorite. So if you finished, be very proud! People will be impressed of your accomplishment and that you finished but could care less about your time. You are a rockstar! I'd also like to give a very heartfelt shoutout to all of you who qualified and got into the 2020 Boston Marathon. By adjusting the qualifying times by 5 minutes, I think this helped many more of you to finally get in that qualified. So kudos to the B.A.A. for the adjustment. Guest - Jason RomeroMy guest this episode is a life changer for me. (https://www.amazon.com/Running-into-Dark-record-setting-America/dp/194152852X) . Jason has a head spinning running resume. He has completed some of the toughest ultra races such as: (http://www.badwater.com/event/badwater-135/) , (https://www.leadvilleraceseries.com/leadmanleadwoman/) - Google it), (https://www.spartathlon.gr/en/home.html) (Greece) (http://www.puertorico150.com/) . His biggest accomplishment though and what his book centers around is his incredible journey which was Running across the USA, typically called a "transcontinental" run. What is most amazing, Jason is legally blind and he did this journey on a shoestring budget with a shoestring crew which mostly consisted of his mom and the help of some friends that just appeared. He ran 3,063 miles in 59.5 days averaging 51.5 miles per day starting in Santa Monica and finishing in New York City. Jason is the only blind runner to ever run across the USA and he in the top ten of the fastest runners to accomplish this. Less than 300 have accomplished a transcontinental run on foot. Jason's book is amazing and opens up about his life, blindness, struggles, obstacles, failures, setbacks but above all else overcoming it all to be a success! Please pick up his book today either in hardcover, paperback, digital or audio right (https://www.amazon.com/Running-into-Dark-record-setting-America/dp/194152852X) Our conversation is open, raw, honest and emotional. In 1976, Dick Traum, an above the knee amputee, found himself approaching middle age and out of shape. After joining a local YMCA, Dick began running – small distances at first and then, eventually several miles. Within a year, Dick became the first amputee to run a marathon. It was the NYC Marathon and the experience was life changing, bringing a powerful sense of achievement and self-esteem. In 1983, seeking to provide that same opportunity to other people with disabilities, Dick created the Achilles Track Club, now called Achilles International.
