Punk rock legend Cheetah Chrome joins us to address the controversy surrounding The Dead Boys' latest album for Cleopatra Records. The new record has sparked heated debates over the use of artificial intelligence (A.I.) in music production, dividing fans and critics alike. In this exclusive interview, Cheetah Chrome sets the record straight, discussing how A.I. was involved, why it was used, and what it means for the future of music and punk rock. From the creative process to the backlash, we uncover the real story behind this polarizing issue.
Welcome to Live On 4 Legs' officially unofficial 300th podcast episode! The timing worked out perfectly on this because in order to hit a milestone, you have to do something special. It just so happens that the band is in Madison Square Garden this week, and that's a pretty special venue to go back to. Since we covered every Garden show from 1998-2016 back in 2019, the only one left to do was from two years ago on the Gigaton tour. The show took place on the 21st anniversary of 9/11, which you couldn't have asked for a more important stage and city to play on. The weight of the tragedy was on everyone's minds and many of the song choices were picked to reflect the emotion that this date naturally brings. Songs like Release, Come Back and Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns were just a few that captured the moment of what that night was. We'll get into some emotional Ed's speeches where he hares stories from first responders and calls for unity in America. Also, Randy happened to be at this show and had a very lofty goal he was looking to accomplish to bring back a former Garden moment from their history. He'll gush over his favorite performances such as Present Tense, Porch, Sonic Reducer and how Rockin' In The Free World almost made him need a hearing aid. Isabel Khalili sits down with Brian, Jenn, and Dr. West, hosts of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer, to celebrate its 20th anniversary. After reminiscing about the origins and evolution of the show, each DJ shares a new short, fast ‘n loud track they're excited about. Plus, we hear about the show's namesake song and what makes it an all-time great. As always, we end on one standout release from KEXP's Music Director team. This time, we hear about a sprawling track with an unconventional story from Associate Music Director Alex Ruder. Panthervision - "Wish You Were Here (Baby it's Christmas)" a 2023 single on Fetish Pop This week, we are continuing a long-held tradition of featuring Christmas-themed Songs of the Day, selected by Brian Foss, one of the hosts of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer. He will be hosting his 20th annual Punk Rock Xmess on Saturday, December 23rd from 9 PM to midnight PT, and then tune in on Monday, December 25th from 7 AM - 4 PM PT, for No Standards Christmas. You won't hear a single "holiday standard," but instead get a mix of soul, rock, blues, hip-hop, and more! Portland power-pop quartet Panthervision first formed in 2019, but its members have been active in the local music scene for fifteen years, playing in bands like Beyond Veronica, Spiral Electric, and Spy Device. Their concept with the new project was "The Muffs meets Sweet, but The Yardbirds are in there somewhere, and some pre-'Walk Like An Egyptian' Bangles … and most of all, their own style and enthusiasm." It's a goal they achieve on their debut album, Now In 3-D, released back in January 2023, and on today's Song of the Day, a rollicking holiday track. Problem Patterns - "Christmas Number One" a 2020 self-released single This week, we are continuing a long-held tradition of featuring Christmas-themed Songs of the Day, selected by Brian Foss, one of the hosts of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer. Problem Patterns — self-described as Belfast's pre-eminent DIY feminist queerpunk quartet — released their highly-anticipated debut album back in October, titled Blouse Club. But today's Song of the Day takes us back to 2020, when they released this single during a tumultuous season. As they wrote at the time: This year, many of us will be spending Christmas alone for the first time ever, and for a few of us, that is the norm. The holiday season can be an incredibly isolating time in general. We wrote this song in an effort to try and look on the bright side of an otherwise tough situation. For the video, we wanted to collaborate and connect with a few friendly faces. We may not be able to be together right now, but stay hopeful. Whatever your plans are, we hope that you are safe and sound.Sending love to anyone who needs it.Merry Christmas,Bev, Beth, Ciara and Alanah xxxx Read the full story at KEXP.orgSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Longboat - "Christmas Socking" from the 2018 self-released album Come and Get Your Christmas This week, we are continuing a long-held tradition of featuring Christmas-themed Songs of the Day, selected by Brian Foss, one of the hosts of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer. He will be hosting his 20th annual Punk Rock Xmess on Monday, December 25th from 7 AM - 4 PM PT, so be sure to tune in for his no-standards, non-traditional Christmas broadcast. Self-proclaimed "Seattle's least favorite band" Longboat have been releasing music for over a decade now, with three new albums this year alone, and, as they write on their website, "just as many to be released in 2024. Just try and stop us. You can't. So don't try, OK?" A project of Belltown-based musician Igor Keller, Longboat released an entire Christmas album back in 2018 titled Come and Get Your Christmas. SQUISH! - "SNIFF MY PISS FOR CHRISTMAS," a 2023 self-released single This week, we are continuing a long-held tradition of featuring Christmas-themed Songs of the Day, selected by Brian Foss, one of the hosts of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer. He will be hosting his 20th annual Punk Rock Xmess on Monday, December 25th from 7 AM - 4 PM PT, so be sure to tune in for his no-standards, non-traditional Christmas broadcast. After 20 years of the Punk Rock Xmess on KEXP, we have a Song of the Day written exclusively for the occasion by Seattle's own SQUISH!, a supergroup of sorts featuring former members of Dumps, Sir Coyler, Gold Fronts, and many others. As they write on Instagram: "We recorded this with @rickrubin at Abbey Road over the course of 9 months with several guest musicians like @daveghrol and @icespice. We hope you like it." Let's stick in 1993 for this episode and head over to Nacogdoches, Texas, a show that takes place only days after Ed's arrest in New Orleans that we talked about last week. This show yet again presents all of the trials and tribulations of being on tour in 1993. After playing nearly non-stop, and spending their off days working on and recording brand new music, the rigorous travel had finally gotten to the health of Dave Abbruzzese where he is needed to rush to the emergency room after the main set. This left for the band to improvise an encore without drums. We invite one of the most knowledgeable Pearl Jam minds onto the show that wrote THE book chronicling the history and timeline of Pearl Jam in PJ20, Jonathan Cohen. Jonathan joins us to give a little bit of context to the era and why the band had a difficult time dealing with their skyrocketing popularity, and what they did to seek the advice of rock 'n' roll's elder statesmen to help guide them through. We'll also talk a little bit about Pearl Jam's 2024 plans and what you can expect from a new album year! We'll spend some time on some interesting setlist decisions from this show, including the choice to open with the Daughter/Glorified G combination, Sonic Reducer in the middle of the main set and of course the decisions made without Dave on hand. The Gear Guru segments will break down both Yellow Ledbetter and Footsteps that were performed without drums at this show. Everybody knows the drill by now. The first Friday of the month means it’s new release night at The Ledge headquarters (aka my bedroom). Somewhat weirdly, though, is that this February episode is technically the first new release show of the year. But that’s due to the Teenage Kicks subtheme necessitating a December 30 airing of the January new release show. Make sense? Speaking of “Teenage Kicks”, I’m so happy that this week’s submission is by Sixgun Republic leader Christopher Chancey! He’s got sort of a rockabilly vibe going through his little version, and I love the use of a piano! Chancey also submitted an old cover of “Sonic Reducer” his band put out back in 2007. Thanks Christopher!!! Do you have a version of this seminal tune to submit? Do you have a little bit of time you can set aside to record a track to air? Please submit it to me! I’m so blown away by the reaction to “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks”! A few bands have already promised to forward a submission in the near future, but the more versions the better! Zahara Elan - “Dear Santa…(NAUGHTY),” a 2022 self-released single. This week, we are continuing a long-held tradition of featuring Christmas-themed songs selected by Brian Foss, host of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer. He will be hosting his 18th annual Punk Rock Xmess on Saturday, December 24th from 9pm -12am and then jump back on the mic Christmas day from noon - 9pm for his no standards, non-traditional Christmas broadcast, including a special holiday edition of Sunday Soul. Zahara Elan is a young musical prodigy who's been posting her covers and, recently, original songs on YouTube the past couple of years. Born in 2008 with Malignant Infantile Osteopetrosis (MIOP), a very rare and fatal genetic bone disorder in which the bones grow unchecked, Zahara (formerly known as Zoe) required serious medical procedures to save her life. Early videos on her YouTube channel, made by her parents, focused entirely on her therapies and development but recently they've shifted to focus on her main passion: creating and performing music. Her latest original song is, to put it lightly, an absolute banger. “Dear Santa…(NAUGHTY)” is, indeed, bawdy, with the Seattle-based pre-teen not holding back on the curse words. “Mind your fucking business,” Elan declares in one verse to the nosy and judgemental Saint Nick. But it's the chorus that packs the biggest punch with, “WHAT THE FUCK, Santa?! /Don't tell me to be good /I blow off steam from time to time /Because I'm misunderstood.” It's about time someone gave Santa the middle finger. Watch the adorably creative video for “Dear Santa…(NAUGHTY),” written, directed, filmed, and edited by Elan's mother Kellie Newton, and read the full post at KEXP.org.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We Are The Union - “Yr Always Alone (On Christmas)” from the 2022 album I Surrender Sleighs on I Surrender Records. We Are The Union have been making ska-infused pop punk since 2005 with five full-length records to their name. After multiple lineup changes, original members vocalist/guitarist Reade Wolcott and bassist Brandon Benson have remained and added Ricky Weber on lead guitar and Jer Hunter on the ska-important trombone. Their latest single “Yr Always Alone (On Christmas)” centers on the idea of loneliness and how especially excruciating the feeling is around the holidays. “Nuclear holiday /Oh, oh, oh, oh, detonate, set me free,” Wolcott sings with a nasally snarl. “Venom in your head, brandy on your breath /'Tis the season to be vile and mean.” The band had this to say about the song: “Yr Always Alone (On Christmas)' is almost not a holiday song. It's a fairly cynical take on loneliness as a consequence of selfishness, but it's centered around Christmas as a focal point.” The song was released on a compilation album of original, non-traditional Christmas songs via I Surrender Records titled I Surrender Sleighs. As I have stated quite often during these cover tune broadcasts, I have a special folder where I place remakes as I come across them. Once that folder is full, it’s time to do a show. This time around, that folder grew at a pretty rapid pace. Of course I’m going to air Ultrabomb’s version of “Sonic Reducer”. I don’t think anybody is surprised by the inclusion of “Borstal Breakdown” from that new live Replacements album. But many may be shocked by the inclusion of two tracks from the 1968 collaboration between Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood. Honestly, I had never heard these bonkers tunes until one day I hung out in my friend’s record store. Seriously, that version of “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” is something everybody should check out. But what made it essential that I do this theme this very week are two special records that arrived a few days ago. The first is All The Covers (And More) by The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs. Released on September 30 on Rum Bar Records, this 38 track compilation gathers together all of the remakes the band has recorded in their 25 year history. The other is the latest project by Geoff Palmer. Standing In […]

STRONG WARNING: THIS EPISODE CONTAINS ADULT MATERIAL AND MAY OFFEND (But that's what Lunch is all about)Author, musician, actor, performance artist and..the object of Glenn's unwholesome attention. Lydia Lunch has had the kind of underground carreer that suffers no fools. That proves that anger can be weilded like a sharp blade into the guts of the mainstream with NO apologies. For decades now Lydia Lunch has provoked middle american values and continues unabated. Not Boston, but Woostah! This episode hits up an early show from the Lightning Bolt tour in which the band was playing their first of two nights in the Massachusetts town. Most Boston area shows are going to give you something memorable like a special crowd or a deep dive into the back catalog. This show has all of those things. It's a great crowd, and Fatal is played for the first time in years. But with the hosts not having attended this one in person, it is a bit of a struggle to grab onto an overall narrative for this 32-song set. Is it the brand new album songs that the band continues to adjust to on the live stage? Is it the 20-song main set that lasts about a dollar short of 2 hours? Is it Ed being so drunk that he forgets how to spell L-O-I-T-E-R-I-N-G in Crazy Mary? Those are all nice talking points, but when you put everything together, what kind of show are you looking at in hindsight? Don't let that detract you from what this episode has to offer, because although we struggle with pieces of it, we ultimately enjoy this one. Mike Farris - "Havana Santa," a 2021 single on Compass Records. This week, we are continuing a long-held tradition of featuring Christmas-themed songs selected by Brian Foss, host of KEXP's punk show Sonic Reducer. Brian has been doing a punk rock Christmas special every year since 2004 and has been a Christmas Day on-air DJ since 2012. He will be hosting his non-traditional Christmas broadcast from noon to 6pm on Saturday, December 25th and then will be back on air later that night for Punk Rock Xmess 2021 at 9pm. No standards are played, only original X-Mess songs, most with a humorous bent. Let's be honest, there's not a whole lot that's sexy about Santa Claus. But have you met his brother? Ow ow! Grammy Award winning gospel, blues, and roots artist Mike Farris introduces a new character to the holidays with “Havana Santa.” The heated Latin track swaps the snow for the sea, where we meet the rum-drinking, mambo-dancing, red Camino-driving brother of St. Nick that's living a very sultry life south of the border. Apparently, the inspiration to make a Latin-style Christmas song came after Farris and his 13-piece holiday band covered a Marc Anthony song during their annual “Soul of Christmas” show in Nashville one year and it was an absolute crowd-pleaser. Farris had this to say about the song: “The whole approach to writing “Havana Santa” was the same approach to the Soul of Christmas shows, and that is to bring maximum amounts of fun to the holiday season and to just fill the season with great memories and cheek numbing joy!” The track features a long list of long-time collaborators and includes six Grammy award winners among them: Derrek Phillips (drums), Dave Roe (bass), Kenny Greenberg (guitars), Kevin Mckendree (piano/hammond organ), Giovanni Rodriguez (percussion), Jim Hoke (tenor and baritone sax/accordion), Steve Hermann (trumpet), Yates Mckendree (bass), Saunya Clayborn (singer), Samson White (singer), additional singers are Dave Roe, Giovanni Rodriguez, Jamie-Sue Seal, Cassidy Zuver, Derrek Phillips and Kenny Greenberg. Get a taste of the fun that Farris and his collaborators bring to their Soul of Christmas events by watching a snippet of their performance of “Havana Santa” at this year's show at the link below. India Ramey - "Cocktail for Christmas" from the 2021 album Christmas Times A'Comin' 2021 on Medicine Show Records. We're getting a little more Southern for today's Song of the Day. “Cocktail for Christmas” is a bluegrass country tune about dealing with family during the holidays by getting completely and utterly wasted. With a delightful twang, India Ramey spells out her plan for coping, “Well Uncle Ren is drunk and talking politics again /I try to keep the peace but the room is starting to spin /But that's fine with me /I'm where I need to be /To put up with my loved ones /I'll be lit up like a Christmas tree by the time the turkey's done.” Certainly one way to handle it! Ramey is an Alabama-based lawyer-turned-musician who's released who's released four albums in the past decade, her most recent being 2020's Shallow Graves. “Cocktail for Christmas” is included on Christmas Times A' Comin' 2021, the 6th compilation of holiday songs from The Medicine Show, a Scottish booking, promotion, and broadcast company run by Rob Ellen. Phone Jerks - "!Christmas on the Floor!," a 2020 self-released single. For a time of year where alcohol consumption is typically at its heaviest, we certainly don't have enough Christmas songs about drinking. Well, Phone Jerks are here to rectify that. Last year, the Canadian quartet released their submission to the holiday drinking song canon with “!Christmas On the Floor!” The energetic garage rock tune harkens the familiar tale of a lover leaving you during the holidays but then paints a very vivid picture of the unhealthy coping mechanisms one might employ during those trying times. “The fairy lights remind me I'm the saddest ever been,” laments one of the band's three lead singers (I'm guessing Emily). “I tripped over Baby Jesus, broke the Nativity scene/ My glass keeps on refilling but I just don't know who poured/ Looks like I'll be spending another Christmas on the floor.” While based in Canada, the Phone Jerks has a member who use to live in Seattle - Brian LaManna, who was in the alternative punk band The Valentine Killers. At the link below, watch live footage of Phone Jerks at the Maniac Mansion if Fredericton, New Brunswick in 2018. Attendant - "Roll On May (Misery Christmas)," a 2021 self-released single. UK grunge-punk duo Attendant have thrown their hats in the heartbreak Christmas song ring this year with “Roll On May (Misery Christmas).” It's a near-universal adult trait to feel a spot of loneliness during the holidays but what does one do when they just want to revel in the melodrama of their misery during the jolliest time of the year? Backed by customary twinkling bells and some very non-traditional heavy guitar strums, frontman Andy Walker addresses this idea. “The celebrations never end/ But I don't want to see my friends/ They'll force me to have fun/ When I just want someone to hold me near/ This time of year/ Cause I need you but you're not here this Christmas.” The single follows Attendant's debut EP, Unreality, released in early 2021. SS-20 - "(No) War Toys On Christmas" from the 1987 EP Daddy's Drunk On Christmas on No Pretense Records. His first selection of the week is a song that I literally cannot find anywhere on the internet, SS-20's “(No) War Toys On Christmas,” from a 1987 EP of original and (I assume) highly satirical Christmas songs called Daddy's Drunk On Christmas. This wasn't the Cincinnati-based hardcore punk band's first foray into the world holiday music, though. The preceding year SS-20 unveiled a DIY release of fairly straight forward Christmas songs sung with a "couldn't care less," according to Discogs, attitude titled Merry Christmas 1986: Is Santa Listening. Formed by Robert Sturdevant in 1982 and still, at least up until a few years ago, playing shows in Cincinnati about once a month, SS-20 has released more than a dozen full-length albums and shorter EPs and 7-inch singles. They've also opened for “every punk and hardcore band that's every played at the Jockey club,” Sturdevant told a publication in 2013, citing Nirvana, the Ramones, Black Flag and the Circle Jerks, among others. The funny thing is the band is made up of old school punk veterans and even though there is some punch in their music, PATM prefers to focus on melody as opposed to aggression. Writing a story about becoming homeless on Christmas Eve, the band shows off their deft songwriting ability and biting lyrics in todays pick. A jam packed show this week as we go back around the world for the first time in over a month. We're close to rounding out our European trip and what's Europe without doing a show in London? We go back to 1993, two months before Vs. was distributed, to talk about a show in the famous Brixton Academy club. Prior to our show coverage, we had the privilege to chat with Tom Pugh, the founder of a charitable organization called Given To Live that helps people affected by illness, addiction, domestic violence or any other personal struggle to get a concert experience that they otherwise couldn't afford to have. Tom tells some wonderful and heartbreaking stories about the people he's helped and will share a story about how Eddie learned of his organization. Follow them on Twitter and IG @GivenToLiveUK - Because You Matter. As for the episode, we get into a truckload of topics that can only be touched upon in the era. One big talking point was how some of the more methodically paced songs such as Release, Black and Garden sounded with Dave A as we questioned some of his stylistic choices and how it might not have been part of the band's vision going forward. We'll also talk about Ed's comfort with the crowd and ability to take the stage having each member of the audience eat out of the palm of his hands. Big moments from this show were significant to the era. The encore is a perfect collection of songs that defined who the band was during this time - Leash, Fuckin Up and Sonic Reducer. They are raw, unfiltered performances that allowed the band to completely let loose and blow the crowd away. Also, we get very early versions of Vs. songs to talk about including Blood, Animal, Rearviewmirror, Go, Daughter and Indifference. If you enjoy the show and would like more content, we can provide that. Head on over to our Patreon to contribute and we'll have extra episodes for you, including a brand new episode featuring their first ever show in Europe in Southend, England. Could this be the best of the five shows played at Wrigley Field? It's a question worth asking. With all that's gone down in Wrigleyville between rain delays to dedications, special and uninvited guests, this can easily be argued as the best of the bunch. Joining the show is our old friend Matt Helbig to help put this massive night into perspective. Both John and Matt were in attendance for this show and right off the bat, you'll notice that they were absolutely stunned by some of the songs they came firing out with. Oceans to open, Footsteps as a #2, Better Man #4 and an old tribute to Jane's Addiction to lead into Corduroy. This set would have Andre Dawson asking what year is this? Because the first 13 songs could've easily been selected from a 1998 setlist and no one would notice. The band went back to their roots for this show and the crowd was rewarded with old favorites like Sonic Reducer and Blood that you wouldn't expect to get busted out on the big stage. As much as this was a night for old cuts, it was also a night for deep cuts as well. The band went into their back catalog to bust out some cherished fan favorites including Black, Red, Yellow that brought Dennis Rodman up on stage. The unreleased crowd-pleaser Of The Earth also made its way onto the set and managed to be one of the top moments of the night. Add those two in with Stone Gossard taking the mic for a little Don't Gimme No Lip and you have a crowd of collectors left satisfied. Overall, this 36-song monster of a setlist that's only had 4 years of life is already considered an all-timer by many hardcore fans. And consider that the Cubs went on a magical run that broke the curse of the Billy Goat that fall, it's safe to say that Pearl Jam spread some magic and left it out on that field to be shared by all. Our episode this week is from where? Tampa. You got it. And although we lose Matt to the injured list once again this week, we're able to get an excellent fill in at the hands of Patreon donor Eddie Quintana who joined us to discuss his first show. First shows are interesting, what do you want and what do you expect out of them? Well, for one you want the hits. Check mark on that because the band didn't just bust out the hits, nearly all of them were home runs. Secondly, it would be nice to see something that might be a little rare at your first show. In The Moonlight, Getaway, Love Boat Captain – those are all pretty nice gets. Top it off with a few covers like Imagine, Sonic Reducer and Baba O'Riley and you'll be begging for the next tour to come around so you can get your next dose of all that awesomeness. The best thing to come out of this show happens to be an incredible story that happened to a fan named Bill Castrovince. Bill went on the Pearl Jam pages and requested the band to play Hard To Imagine that night. Anyone who knows the band knows that they only take requests when those requests are incredibly meaningful and this was precisely that. We're proud to share Bill's story of perseverance and inspiration on this episode and it's a story that you won't want to miss. Also on this show, we announce the winner of our listener's choice episode contest! Stay tuned until the end of the show to see who the big winner is! Formed in Cleveland in 1976, the Dead Boys were one of the first American acts to combine the proto-punk fervor of bands like the Stooges and the New York Dolls with a new level of intense energy. 1977 debut LP, Young, Loud and Snotty, was a landmark album in the birth of hardcore punk and produced one of the first great punk anthems, “Sonic Reducer.” After one more album, the band split in 1979. They reunited for a few gigs in the 1980s, but following the death of lead vocalist Stiv Bators in 1990, the band members went their separate ways except for two brief reunions in 2004 and 2005. The return of the Dead Boys began with guitarist Cheetah Chrome. “I've had my solo band for the last ten years, and Dead Boys songs have always been included in my shows. With the 40th anniversary of the Dead Boys on the horizon and a solid band that could interpret and deliver the performance and sound needed to maintain the authenticity of the Dead Boys, I reached out to Johnny Blitz about an anniversary tour and he said yes and we began the journey of what would become Still Snotty.” With Jason Kottwitz on guitar, Detroit punk legend Ricky Rat on bass and vocalist Jake Hout from ‘zombie’ Dead Boys tribute band, the Undead Boys, the Dead Boys 40th anniversary tour started taking shape.

The Liberty Conspiracy, a clenched punk fist smashing into the face of the state and the hypocrites who support it and work for its ceaseless attacks on individual sovereignty. In this program (sponsored by Con-WOW!)we look at the shock the pop media have expressed about the current president's clearly unconstitutional, immoral and evil assassination program and his attacks on US and foreign civilians. No trial, no presentation of evidence. No presumption of innocence. Just death from above (not 1979 -- look up the band, good one). This is an intense program. We can see how quickly the system is unraveling. On a recent "Ed" show (you know, the dummy we exposed for his complete lack of understanding about how speculation in products actually helps keep their prices lower during times of dearth) Ed's production team posted a poll. 78% of those who responded thought it was acceptable for the US government to assassinate Americans without trial. We're in the minority. Things are unwinding rapidly. Get ready for bad mojo, kids. This program also features a discussion of a recent viral vid that shows a teenage girl in court, and how a bored judge slammed her for saying WORDS. Think about it. Was she convicted of a crime? Did she or did she not retain her right to free speech? What does that tell us about the unworkability of a courtroom and the consistency of government to "protect" speech rights when it chooses to block them when its agents don't like the language you use? With KICK ASS music by The Datsuns "Harmonic Generator", SHINING (Norway) "Fisheye", The Dead Boys "Sonic Reducer", The Prodigy "Baby's Got a Temper", The Prodigy "Spitfire", The Zulus "Directly from Our Hearts to Yours", Girls Against Boys "Rockets are Red", WIRE "Agfers of Kodack", and Tribe "Abort" - Buy them if you can and please remember, we rely on donations to keep our vast audio library out there to prove our points about freedom. Be Seeing You!
See previous episode for circumstances. This starts off with The Peacocks, from CH. "no sex baby, I'd rather have breakfast" is a great lyric, and there is "It's ok, we've all seen better days!" Johnny Thunder is up next. He was with the Dead Boys in NYC when the earth was young. ALL BY MYSELF. Jonny Manak and the Depressives remind me of Johnny Thunder a bit. They are from San Jose. Jonny skates. Dead Boys! "I'm just a dead boy. All this and more, little girl. How about on the floor, little girl? I'll die for you if you want me too." Sucks that Stiv Bator got run over in NYC. Next, we move across the Atlantic to London circa 1978 with the Adverts. LOOKING THROUGH GARY GILMORE'S EYES Song about someone getting eye transplants from an executed serial murder. Gary Gilmore was executed by firing squad in Utah in the mid 1970's Six thousand miles west and 10 years later we have Bad Religion. In the night. 15 years and a thousand miles north--didn't know this was about geography, huh! The Briefs from Seattle. I'm Poor and I'm Wierd. Bored Teenagers by The Adverts. The lyrics are spot on. with emotional rages bored out of our heads bored out of our minds London 1977. It isn't the Sex Pistols. These guys were playing in the same scene though. THE VIBRATORS with automatic lover. I saw them once at the Blank Club in SJ in 2004-ish. They were great and drove away in a mini-van. She's the kind of thing I was warned about by my mother Run for cover, run for cover I don't need anyone don't need no mom and dad don't even need you too sonic reducer ain't no loser I don't type fast enough... I watch them from my room they're just passing by I'm not just anyone I got my time machine My electronic dreams sonic reducer sonic reducer Then I'll be 10 feet tall and you'll be nothing at all That is the Dead Boys flailing away with SONIC REDUCER. Just tremendous from beginning to end. Next are LeftOver Crack come to us from New Jersey some time in the past decade or so. AND WHEN THERE IS NO HOPE, I SMOKE THE CRACK AND SHOOT THE DOPE. It isn't my way out, but it is damn powerful. There is some killer bass in this song and I love the strangled vocal noises. Makes you want to pick up a brick and throw it. Much lighter, but still great. Punk Rock Girls by THE QUEERS. It is really bubble gum punk, but I love it. Yummy yummy punk rock girls, I wish they all were punk rock girls. I saw the twice and both shows were great. The one at Bottom of the Hill in 2006 was epic. The Manges and The Methadones opened. They played a Screetching Weasels song, Cindy's on Methadone that I never thought I would hear live. The Clash. He don't like his boring job now. Fill it up Jacko. Janie Jones was a famous London madam/prostitute. More Queers. Kicked out of the Weebeloes! Daddy beat me with a hose I punched her in her snotty nose I guess that's the way it goes That's all. I typed this as the podcast was playing so if it is wrong, or lousy, well... Blow me! Miles 12/17/2008 11:20 PM
