For 110 days Peter Hammarstedt and his group of ocean vigilantes hunted the most notorious poacher of sea bass on the high seas, known as the Thunder. Their journey turns into an epic chase across 10,000 miles, two seas, and three oceans, through massive ice floors, violent clashes, and storms-tossed seas, where only one ship makes it home. This story contains explicit language, sensitive listeners please be advised.Thank you so much to Peter Hammarstedt for sharing your story with us!Thanks as well to Ian Urbina. We first heard about this story thanks to his reporting. You can find his book, The Outlaw Ocean: Journeys Across the Last Untamed Frontier, on Knopf, Amazon, or anywhere books are sold. Welcome to the Arise Banding Podcast, a series of conversations where you'll have a chance to hear insights from other bands, receive practical tools to help strengthen your band, and take a deep dive into some of the foundations behind each of the 5 banding questions. A band is a group of three to five men or women who meet regularly to engage in transformational questions and to pray for one another. Banding is a core practice at Arise, and we have found that it is one of the most formative opportunities to journey alongside others in becoming like Jesus and doing the things he did. In this episode, Anna Grace and Austin sit down with Mark Benjamin to unpack the first question asked in a band meeting: How is it with your soul? For additional banding resources or information about how to join a band at Arise, visit our banding webpage at www.arisechurches.com/banding
NYPD officers who've been serving in Afghanistan are getting pretty violent, domestically, and the Unit has to race against a *gasp* journalist to get to the bottom of what's going on in this week's Ripped from the Headlines edition of SVU. The Army are very bad, doctors are huge cowards, and journalists may or may not be bottom feeders in this screed where no cows are sacred and no army wife is safe. And before you entertain the conciliatory notion that at least no actors were harmed in the making of this episode, Goliath marked the end of yet another child actor's on-screen career, and it seems unlikely that it was due to his performance, rather owing to the exceptionally dark things to which he was meant to see and react.Sources:Ripped from my headlines - Mark Benjamin, SalonThe Dark Side of Lariam - David Kohn, CBS NewsNeuropsychiatric Outcomes After Mefloquine Exposure Among U.S. Military Service Members - Angelia A. The President Hotel in Bantry Bay is a long way from the sweet and simple townhouses we've been lurking in recently. It has some 350 rooms and apartments, with tall palm trees positioned around a pool and the exterior painted in startling white just to lean into that Med look. On the 7th of June 2009, security guard Mark Benjamin is standing outside room 54 key in hand, with two others chomping at the bit to get inside. These men are Lester Penteni and Marshall Gobinca. The men had gone to the President Hotel in search of Judge Patrick Maqubela, who was leasing one of the luxury apartments and had been unreachable for a few days…. Twelve years later, the cause of Patrick's untimely demise remains a matter of debate. One acquittal, one conviction and one appeal later, Patrick's cause of death remains unexplained.Sources: 'Excitable' Maqubela killed her husbandA look back at Thandi Maqubela's court drama | eNCAA not so perfect murderActing judge dead for a few days before body was foundBid to curb 'black widow' - The Mail & GuardianCape judge ‘died of natural causes'Court hears of mystery call about judge | News24How did this judge die .?Judge killed over divorce planJudge's killer may lose R7.2m estateMaqubela ‘apologised to wife on day he died'Maqubela murder trial nears the end | eNCAMaqubela pathologist cites uncertainties | News24Maqubela patologist can't make rulingMaqubela shocked at husband's SMS messages to loverMaqubela SMSes read out in court | News24Maqubela text messages revealedMaqubela trial resumes after 8 monthsMaqubela wants to be home for Christmas | DrumMaqubela's death unnatural - State | News24Murdered judge Maqubela's text: 'I'm a walking corpse' - The Mail & GuardianMurdered judge's widow: I loved himMysterious call on day acting judge diedNo surprise that judge was killed: stateOne minute murder plan improbable - defence | News24Prayers to the wind: Patrick Maqubela: Acting judge and former MK operativePressReader.com - Digital Newspaper & Magazine SubscriptionsPressReader.com - Digital Newspaper & Magazine SubscriptionsSaying goodbye to designer wearSHE TOLD US OF JUDGE'S 'INFIDELITY'Slain judge ‘was sex addict'Thandi Maqubela 'was a cold step-mother' | OFMThandi Maqubela | Murderpedia, the encyclopedia of murderersThandi Maqubela back in court | DrumThandi Maqubela bio: age, children, patrick Maubela, pictures, profile, where is she?Thandi Maqubela not guilty of her husband's murder‚ appeal court findsThandi Maqubela wants her share of estateThandi Maqubela: The charges - NEWS & ANALYSIS | PoliticswebThandi Maqubela's lawyers quit over ‘totally inadequate' fees | News24Thandi Sheryl Maqubela - Innocents Database of ExonerationsToxicology tests conducted on judge's bodyWitness received SMS from dead judge Get bonus content on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
