Vanaf hun kennismaking met oracy in het Engelse basisonderwijs zijn ze verkocht aan het belang van oracy, ook voor het Nederland onderwijs. Hun doelen met oracy zijn zowel onderwijskundig als pedagogisch van aard. Onderwijskundig draagt oracy bij aan leeropbrengsten voor literacy en numeracy. Oracy is namelijk niet alleen leren spreken, luisteren en communiceren, zelf en samen met anderen, maar is ook leren over spreken, luisteren en communiceren in verschillende contexten, zoals vakgebieden. Ook het in Engeland ontwikkeld raamwerk oracy geeft aan dat oracy niet alleen bijdraagt aan de fysieke en sociaal-emotionele ontwikkeling van kinderen, zoals zelfvertrouwen om in groepen te spreken, maar ook aan hun linguïstische en cognitieve ontwikkeling.Voor Miriam en Bob zijn de pedagogische doelen van oracy misschien wel belangrijker. Kinderen leren door oracy van jongs af aan dat hun eigen stem van belang is in dialoog met de leraar en met andere leerlingen.
