The Bratislava literary festival, commonly known as BRaK, brought together readers and the wider community of authors, poets, translators, critics, and professionals working in the book industry, including publishers, distributors, illustrators, and even book reviewers from all across Slovakia. Although it is called the Bratislava literary festival, it also hosted several public readings and discussions with authors from abroad. At the same time, several discussions were dedicated to Slovak—and not only Slovak—literature in translation. In modern science, particularly in physics, a quantum is the smallest unit of reality capable of interacting with its surroundings. In Slovakia, KVANTUM is an interdisciplinary festival that combines science and art. It is one of several festivals currently taking place across the country that cater to English speakers living in or visiting Slovakia.

Hungary has dropped its two-year veto on Ukraine's European Union accession, clearing the way for the first cluster of negotiations to open in mid-June.Recorded on 6 June 2026 in Cres, Croatia, on the sidelines of the Europe's Future Initiative fellows gathering, Wojciech Przybylski talks to Balázs Jarábik about the deal that ended the deadlock between Hungary and Ukraine. Jarábik is an award-winning analyst and decorated diplomat. He is the founder of Minority Report, an independent policy consulting firm and think tank based in Bratislava, Slovakia. The conversation then opens out into three tracks. First, the question of the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia and why it carries such weight in Hungary's foreign policy. Second, the European game of the new Magyar government. Third, and most consequential, the emergence of a more ethno-national, post-Maidan Ukraine that, in Jarábik's reading, will lead with defence integration while EU accession slows, and will use its military weight towards its neighbours.YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@visegradinsightSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7aA9iqd8rUxFMYMemjikuwApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/at/podcast/visegrad-insight-podcast/id1515725435Substack: https://visegradinsight.substack.com/podcastSubscribe to Visegrad Insight for access to all our content, live and online events: visegradinsight.eu.

International cooperation, digital skills and real-life learning define the European eTwinning platform, which has been part of Slovak schools for more than 20 years. To we explore how Europe's largest online community of schools connects teachers and students across borders through projects that develop key competences for life in the 21st century we speak with Katarína Hrbáňová, coordinator of eTwinning Slovakia, the National Support Organisation based at the University of Žilina, and Ivana Bršťáková, an English teacher at Business Academy Dudova in Bratislava, who presents her award-winning project Eco-Heritage: Cultures United for Nature. The project won third place in the Slovak National eTwinning Competition 2025 in the secondary school category and brought together students from Slovakia, Spain and Turkey to explore cultural heritage, environmental protection and eco-tourism. As always, the programme includes a new edition of our language corner, Slovak Sound Check.

REMINDER: ONE WEEK TO GET THE VALIANT KICKSTARTER FUNDED Things Discussed: The Weddle comment: What does Bryce have to show this year to show this is working? Craig: If they win more than 8 games. Brian: Get the running game down. If he can read out an option everything becomes easier for him. Early Vince Young. Seth: He's got to show us his Detroit Hustles Harder side. There's a misconception in sports that money equals softness, but Underwood was the #1 prospect in his class because he was as much a grinder as he was talented. Let that show, and he'll win hearts and minds. Get to where JJ was as a true sophomore. Terrelle Pryor Year 2. Sam: Shoulda paid for a QB coach last year. He's got to stop looking at the rush. Statistically he was better than he looked. We're overrating his dismal Spring Game performance and underrating how often he had touchdown passes that his receivers botched or interceptions they didn't fight for. Andrew Marsh wasn't even looking for the ball early in the season. JJ Buchanan isn't missing the plays Freddie Moore didn't make. Whittingham recruiting: They're serious and they're recruiting the way they do, but it's interesting that they're also doing things that Harbaugh did. Tank (metal name!) Watson wasn't a Utah-style recruitment; it's a Harbaugh trick to go to big Southern schools and look at the late-developing fifth guy the scouts aren't watching because there are 4- and 5-stars all over the field. Is he a pure linebacker? Might be an edge, might be a Cole Sullivan. Sam: Dakota Guerrant is leaning Oregon but Michigan won't give up on him; they won't lose an NIL battle, but they need to prove they can pass the ball this fall. Gabe Osborne is the best player in the country; don't care what it costs. Like that he committed to hometown Oklahoma instead of Ohio State. Sam shares how Michigan flipped an NCAA decision to screw over SMSB by inviting all the campers to Michigan. Reminds us of the early Harbaugh alacrity in recruiting. Milan Momcilovic: Sam is down on Pope, thinks you don't go to Kentucky for any reason but money. Brian gives him a mulligan because UK was injured; Sam says if they don't go further than Texas this year he's fired. Funny that BYU has money as soon as Pope leaves. Michigan to play an outdoor basketball game at the Marlins stadium, because Fox was mad they didn't get to broadcast it if they played at MSG. B10 has rights to those games. Whatever the rationale is, it's a sad statement about how the sport is structured. The latest frontier is streaming. Seth thinks this is a very bad turn; how many streaming services do you need to sign up for to watch every Michigan football and basketball game this year? Worse, putting games behind paywalls is putting them out of reach of fans, especially young adults, who will find something else, cannibalizing your future (and destroying smaller market teams) for a few bucks today. Can't fault Dusty May and Michigan because they're just playing the game. I do fault the commissioner of the Big Ten and the TV execs who can't see past what money sticks to their fingers. Seth Dream: Cut out the TV guys, develop your own streaming network and keep all of the money. If you put a tenth of the money the TV guys get into production you'd have it. Brian: You're crazy; they outsource everything, and when they don't they create Big Ten Plus. Seth: not crazy, because TV takes a greater share now than they ever have before, because streaming is a new frontier that hasn't calcified yet, sports fans would rather install a free app where they could watch all of their games for free than six apps they have to sign up for. What makes it impossible is Michigan and Ohio State etc. won't like it because it's too fair.

Parenting counsellor Martina Vagačová says that walking to school independently helps children build self-confidence, responsibility and social skills. Yet many parents are hesitant because they do not see public spaces and traffic as safe enough for children. The Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava (MIB) is searching for solutions through its Mesto pre deti (City for Children) project. By combining urban planning, traffic solutions and community participation, the initiative aims to improve areas around schools and encourage walking and cycling instead of relying on cars. Today, MIB urbanist Sandra Štasselová and architect Marianna Páleníková explain why safe streets, accessible public spaces, greenery and active mobility are essential for a healthy and functional city — not only for children, but for everyone. In playful Children's Day episode of Slovak Sound Check, we learn useful vocabulary connected to playground activities while keeping things fun, and beginner-friendly.

Nuž a to najzásadnejšie tohto víkendu?

Most people spend years building a network. Mario Brondani built access to 6.5 million people by mastering one skill almost everyone overlooks. He arrived in Spain at 18 with no contacts, closed a £20,000 deal his first weekend, and went on to make 4,000 cold calls in under two months. What he learned about authentic connection, deal flow, and thinking 10 years ahead will change how you approach your own business growth. Key Takeaways 1. Close before you're ready — Mario closed a master franchise deal for the UK with a complete stranger on his very first expo weekend, proving action beats experience.2. Authenticity is your most underused sales asset — genuine interest in a prospect's business, not slick technique, is what earns trust and closes deals.3. Cold calling at volume builds skill faster than almost any training — 4,000 calls in two months created the communication confidence that shaped Mario's entire career.4. Apply the Blue Ocean Strategy principle to your own business — identify where your industry is heading in 10 years and start building for that future today.5. Super connectors are an untapped distribution channel — accessing even a handful of the right connectors can give you reach into networks of millions overnight.6. AI should be treated as an ally, not a threat — using it to compress research, sharpen answers, and move faster lets lean teams compete at a level previously impossible. Guest BioMario Brondani is an international business introducer and serial entrepreneur who has personally connected with 140 super connectors, giving him access to a network of over 6.5 million people. In this episode of The First Day from The Fund Raising School, Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D., welcomes Mladenka Majerić, CEO of the Yellow Dot Foundation in Croatia and an international leader in nonprofit effectiveness, fundraising culture, and philanthropic development across Europe. Bill and Mladenka first connected at the Central and Eastern European Fundraising Conference in Bratislava, Slovakia, in 2025, and their conversation centers on a message every fundraiser needs taped to the mirror, the laptop, and possibly the office coffee maker: fundraisers are leaders. They may not always hold the CEO title or sit in the board chair's seat, but through their relationships, influence, and trust-building, fundraisers help shape organizations, communities, and society itself. The conversation begins with Mladenka reframing fundraising as much more than raising money. Fundraising, she explains, is about developing relationships with donors, building community, influencing public trust, and strengthening the social fabric. Bill adds that nonprofit professionals are often “first responders,” stepping into difficult social challenges and helping communities move toward solutions. Mladenka agrees, noting that fundraisers build not only financial capital but social capital, the kind rooted in values, relationships, and shared responsibility. In other words, fundraisers are not just passing the hat; they are helping stitch the community quilt, hopefully without getting tangled in the thread. Bill and Mladenka then explore what leadership looks like for fundraisers who do not have formal authority. Mladenka offers a beautifully direct answer: “Leadership is communication.” Every donor conversation, public appearance, one-on-one meeting, and stakeholder interaction represents the mission and shapes the reputation of the organization. Bill connects this to what The Fund Raising School teaches as “reference power,” the influence fundraisers earn by being trusted representatives of the mission. Mladenka also introduces the phrase “exquisite fundraising,” describing fundraising that moves beyond planning, managing, and executing into vision, responsibility, and societal change. The episode closes with a focus on self-care, joy, and support for fundraisers who carry heavy expectations in a challenging profession. Mladenka shares advice from her colleague Gary Edwards, who would ask, “Are you having fun?” She expands that idea into joy: fundraisers need to stay connected to the mission, visit with beneficiaries, remember why the work matters, and seek support from colleagues, mentors, coaches, or fundraising communities. Bill echoes this by reminding listeners that fundraising is “the gentle art of teaching the joy of giving,” and that fundraisers are in the “joy delivery business.” The takeaway is clear: fundraisers are leaders not because of their titles, but because of their trust, communication, vision, and ability to connect people to purpose; and when they care for themselves while doing it, they can lead with both effectiveness and joy.

Takže keď idete do ZOO, v ruksaku nemajte pripravenú ani mrkvu, ani jablká a už tobôž nie nejaké sladkosti. Jedine, že by ste nimi chceli nakŕmiť seba. Viac o tom, čo robí a nerobí ideálny návštevník ZOO a aké novinky čakajú tú bratislavskú, povedala hovorkyňa Zuzana Dzurdzíková.

In this episode, we focus on two unique natural sites and the efforts to protect and restore them. First, we visit the Šúr nature reserve, located near Bratislava. Despite its international ecological value, it remains little-known to the public. Conservationists are now working to revive this rare wetland forest—using traditional methods like grazing cattle. Then, we turn our attention to the Danube River and its islands. Once rich in biodiversity, many of these islands have been damaged by human intervention. We speak with Andrea Froncová from the Regional Association for Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development about current efforts to restore them.

2. 4. Cosa Significa "Il Colmo" in Italiano?
