In a structurally odd episode that pits rager against rager in a ticking-clock, nearly locked-room scenario until it suddenly isn't and renders much of what preceded moot, Stabler tries to nab the one who got away while confronting his own anger management issues. In this Friday bonus episode, we'll hear the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the sequel to The Thin Man - the appropriately titled After the Thin Man. William Powell and Myrna Loy are back as Nick and Nora Charles in this second adventure (originally aired on CBS on June 17, 1940).

Our month of classic Hollywood romances continues with frequent co-stars William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles - husband and wife detectives who trade quips and down drinks as they investigate a murder in The Thin Man. We'll hear them, along with co-star Maureen O'Sullivan, in Suspense thrillers and a Lux Radio Theatre recreation of the Dashiell Hammett detective story. We'll hear Ms. O'Sullivan in "The Black Shawl" (originally aired on CBS on July 27, 1944). Ms. Loy stars in "Library Book" (originally aired on CBS on September 20, 1945). Mr. Powell headlines "Give Me Liberty" (originally aired on CBS on October 21, 1948). Finally, Powell and Loy are Nick and Nora in a radio adaptation of The Thin Man (originally aired on CBS on June 8, 1936).

This week, The Munchie Boys tackle a Finisode preoccupied with unpacking Fin's history while an undercover with Narcotics, more than a decade after the fact. For Father's Day, the Randomizer decided to troll dads everywhere with a tale of woe and trauma that sure makes one father look AWFUL. We watched "Redemption In Her Corner" (S21E13) this week. We thought it would be neat to look at the holiday season under a lens, and think about the “comfort games” that come with the season. Think about all of the arguments or justifications you’ve heard for whether or not a film or album is a Xmas-coded production? Like, beyond all of the Die Hard or The Thin Man shitposts, there are pieces of media that folks just associate with the holidays, even when they’re not centrally focused on the jolly time—and some choice picks that don’t even do that much. We all assign these arbitrary associations between literature and film around yuletides and such, so why not video games too? To ensure we really get some spirit out of this topic, we’ve asked some wonderful folks to appear on the episode, and give us their thoughts on the matter, as well as the games that they associate with the season of giving. The Randomizer (episode.lol) spat out the final episode of the disastrous Michael Chernuchin Era, which meant the Munchie Boys were force-fed the final part of some serialized content. Of course, here, this means we have long-time series regulars acting entirely uncharacteristically, including characters we'd known for 20 years. Perhaps more importantly, this episode eschews all common sense, asking society to act insanely in addition to its characters. Our annual 12 Days of Christmas series returns! Will McKinley joins us to kick things off with The Thin Man. Much of this 1934 classic is set during Christmastime, and we're treated to William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles. We follow along as they become embroiled in the case of a missing person. Or is it murder?

Christmas movies are a genre unto themselves. And Classic Hollywood Christmas movies are a special part of that genre. Holiday movies made in Hollywood's heyday of the 1930's-1940's. Secret Movie Club founder.programmer Craig Hammill takes a look at five favorites-Frank Capra's 1946 It's A Wonderful Life, Ernst Lubitsch's 1940 The Shop Around the Corner, Preston Struges' 1944 The Miracle of Morgan's Creek, Vincente Minnelli's 1944 Meet Me In St. Louis, and W.S.Van Dyke's 1934 The Thin Man. Interestingly, all these classic use dark subject matter-contemplated suicide, financial stress, murder, small town scandal-to contrast and thus emphasize Christmas themes of redemption, family, second chances. We also take a look at two modern classics-Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can and Terry Zwigoff's Bad Santa and how they share much the same DNA as their classic Hollywood counterparts.

After a supremely messed up Munchies' Choice episode last week, we settled back into the late season doldrums with an SVU that seems deadset on being racist against both Italians and West Virginians while wallowing in a domestic violence case that ends badly in a bathtub. Is it believable that the character who meets his maker would have been taking a bath? Were there more inventive or contemporary ways to take out the abuser? Probably not, but why focus on wanting this ep to make sense? Yes folks, this SVU features none other than the modern voice of Shaggy Rogers himself, Matthew Lillard, in a, how shall we say, difficult role for him opposite some nobody casting pulled in off the street named Carol Burnett. We also see not Judge Al Bertuccio get defenestrated into a parked car, Fin casually dropping slang from the 1930's into conversation, and the writers' room creating new ethnic slurs from scratch. This fallout includes the first—and thus far, only—time an officer on the Unit dies in the line of duty, which gives Adam and Josh quite a bit to mull over while wondering why the stakes were lowered so much before offing him. Any episode that has Chekhov's gun go off while also not having Chekhov's gun go off means there's going to be plenty of plot discussion to be had.
