When we last chatted with Mark back in 2020 (Season 1, Episode 7) he was manning the helm as the longest serving Mayor in Danbury, Connecticuts history, but shortly after he joined the show he was asked by Governor Ned Lamont to join his staff as the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services. Mark Boughton was also recently appointed the States Infrastructure Czar and as usual, I had a wonderful conversation chatting about his final days as Mayor, his thoughts on the Danbury Trashers Netflix Documentary and upcoming movie, the new role as Commissioner, the new tax cuts that are taking effect, what he's been up to in regards to Connecticuts infrastructure and so much more!

CBIA BizCast host Ali Warshavsky speaks with Mark Boughton, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, about the state's new tax amnesty program. Boughton says those who owe back taxes can come forward between now and Jan. 30, 2022 and receive a 75% reduction in interest and waived penalties. “Our community always asks how much money is really out there,” said Boughton. “It's about $500-$800 million going back to about the mid-1970s. I don't think all of that is collectable, but there are a lot of recent disputes.” The state offered a similar program in 2017 but Boughton said it is unlikely another amnesty will happen again. Mark Boughton first started his career in the United States Army Reserve achieving the rank of Sergeant then transitioning to a Social Studies teacher in 1987 in the town of Danbury, CT. Break-ing into politics in 1995 as a member of the Danbury Planning Commission, Mark has always been destined for a leadership role, which lead to his political career in 1998 as the State Representative for the 138th District of Connecticut.
