America stands at an economic precipice where the next few years will determine whether we face catastrophic collapse or unexpected revival. In this solo episode, we dive deep into the precarious state of America's economy and explore a potential path forward based on insights from Joe Withrow of the Phoenician League. The discussion examines the unprecedented economic situation facing the United States and presents a surprising perspective on how recent policy proposals could potentially avert a sovereign debt crisis. With nearly half of the national debt coming due in the next three years and interest payments projected to overtake Social Security by 2026, the solutions presented offer a radical rethinking of federal assets and how they might be leveraged to save America's financial future.Economic Reality Check: Current economic conditions are unprecedented in our lifetime, with interest payments on the national debt projected to surpass Social Security as the largest budget item by 2026 if nothing changes.Global Financial Power Struggle: The Federal Reserve appears engaged in a power struggle with European central banks, with implications for America's financial future despite the Fed's inherent flaws.Revolutionary Economic Approach: Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's proposal for creating an External Revenue Service and a Sovereign Wealth Fund could transform government finances by properly valuing federal assets.Looming Debt Crisis: Nearly $17 trillion in US treasuries (almost half the national debt) is due over the next three years, requiring decisive action to prevent financial catastrophe.Innovative Asset Strategy: Leasing federal land for energy and mining, taking stakes in defense contractors, and leveraging gold reserves could generate hundreds of billions in annual revenue through a new Sovereign Wealth Fund.▶️ Chapters:00:00 - Introduction & Economic Crossroads 01:00 - Setting Up the Solo Episode Context03:00 - Macro vs Microeconomics Perspective05:00 - Joe Withrow's Insights on Global Economic Struggles10:00 - The Federal Reserve vs European Central Banks17:00 - "Springtime for America" - Lutnick's Economic Proposal 20:00 - The Interest Payment Crisis Looming26:00 - Federal Government's Undervalued Assets33:00 - Treasury Bonds Coming Due in Next Three Years37:00 - Sovereign Wealth Fund Potential Revenue Sources45:00 - Closing Thoughts on Statistics and ResponsibilityGot Questions? The HSE is being urged to end the "unacceptable" practice of unfunded ambulance shifts in Clare. It's understood ambulance cover in Ennistymon on Wednesdays, Scariff on Thursdays and Kilkee on Fridays is primarily secured through overtime or relief staff. The issue has come to prominence again following a number of high profile incidents locally, including reports of a student waiting over an hour for an ambulance after having a seizure at a North Clare school. Clarecastle Sinn Féin Councillor Tommy Guilfoyle says Clare is the poor relation compared to the rest of the country.

Today's show opens with a little more discussion over the insights we can glean from the NBC firing of Ronna McDaniel, thanks to our good friend Victor Davis Hanson. The Legacy/mainstream media is not interested in widening your views or giving you the whole story. They want to protect their information and cultural monopoly in an effort to control the populace. With the AG Alvin Bragg “hush money” case close at hand, it is nice to have a whistleblower who has stated it was lawyer Michael Cohen who was having the affair with Stormy Daniels and not Donald Trump. In fact, looking at the evidence from prior trials, it seems more likely that Cohen and Daniels conspired to blackmail Trump in his 2016 election bid. A new round of emails gathered from a Freedom of Information Act request reveals that the Department of Justice and the FBI uncovered alarming 2020 election ballot fraud in Detroit, Michigan, but covered it up. Longtime listeners to my show already know the details we have uncovered, beginning with the Clerk of city of Muskegon, Michigan. The subsequent emails and information continue to support all of the revelations we brought to you in the fall of 2023. I've told you the Left want the invasion because they need a permanent underclass. They want to grow the population numbers to gain more seats of power in the House, while pushing for amnesty. The latest salvo on this front has the NYC council asking their state Supreme Court to allow non-citizens to vote in local elections. We lost yet another young woman at the hands of a violent criminal illegal alien. Ruby Garcia was only 25 when she was murdered and dumped on the side of a highway. This happened in the state of Michigan. But, the governor of the state has yet to say her name or acknowledge the crime. Instead, Gov. Whitmer is busy pushing their latest state-wide initiate – offering $500/month to house a “newcomer.” Yep, that's their new branding for illegal alien. They want Michiganders to bring illegals into their home and will pay them to do so. I hope the people in Michigan have been paying attention to the fact squatters have more rights than home-owners. What is going to happen when these “newcomers” to your home change the locks and kick you out? Whose side to you think Whitmer and Co. will take? Onto Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen. You may not have heard this covered on the local news and there is a good reason. It's bad. Yellen says Social Security and Medicare are now underfunded by $175 trillion dollars. That comes to roughly $1.4 million per American household. If something isn't done, Social Security will be defunct in 10 years. Maybe the next administration can tackle this issue by culling the size of the Federal workforce. At the same time, we need to education Americans about how the income tax system is designed so the Left can stop playing class envy in an effort to tax us all more anyway. They have a new “wealth tax” they want to employ and they are selling it by lying to you about how millionaires and billionaires pay taxes. A big thank you to Carol Roth for helping with the details. Finally, a CNBC All-America Economic Survey asked Americans for their top 10 most important issues. Then, they asked which candidate they felt would be best able to deal with those issue. Not surprisingly, Trump leads almost every category by a landslide. The only two Biden gets is healthcare and the abortion issue. The new Finance Minister wants to change the law to force governments to publish a list of policies they've left unfunded, ahead of every election. Nicola Willis says Labour left many essential programmes without long-term funding as a way of masking the true state of the finances. Labour's Grant Robertson is dismissing the accusations and says the information Nicola Willis wants collated is released annually in the Budget. Political reporter Katie Scotcher has the story.
The financial trouble the Trudeau Liberals have put Canada in looks disturbingly unlike previous debt and deficit hangovers, as William Robson tells Brian Lilley this week. The losses Ottawa has pushed onto the Bank of Canada are choking off desperately needed income, explains Robson, president and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute. Wages are losing ground. Business investment indicators are the worst since the 1940s. Unfunded pensions are soaring. Federal spending keeps rising. And the government continues adding enormous immigration inflows to a strained economy. Canada, Robson says, is “going down a very strange path” — and Ottawa seems not to care. Episode 114 is all over the map. Sorry about the disjointed feel of the stories. We start with 2 x stories from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency- Morocco Foreign Military Sale(s). We then have two Ukraine support articles from Spain and Canada. We then move on with two aviation stories from Brazil and South Korea. Finally, we finish in the US with three stories- DEMSHORAD; FY24 DOD Budget Unfunded Priority List; and an Opinion piece about USMC Force Design & Talent Management 2030.
Pretty cool episode. We start off discussing the latest US security assistance package to Ukraine. Then, we cover two main themes- the Arctic region and then the Pacific. For the Arctic region- we have two stories involving military collaboration. One between the US and Canada and their ski-equipped C 130 landing on ice and the second story involving a combined airborne operation (parachute jump) by the UK Royal Marines & Dutch forces. Also, somewhere in there, is an article that discusses planning for a NATO Northern Flank air collaboration between Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden. For the Pacific, we have two stories from Australia (Boxer & Taipan), one from North Korea (Underwater Drone), and one that illustrates some USMC unfunded priority concerns- particularly for the San Antonio Class amphibious ship.Finally- we close out with a nice anti-tank missile story from Egypt.

Unfunded, yet essential, study activities are a longstanding problem for the sustainability of studies and clinical research sites. These types of invoiceables, often called hidden costs, are typically not accounted for in the study budgeting process which can be detrimental to long-term site sustainability. In this episode, David Vulcano, Honorary President, SCRS and Chris Hoyle, Executive Director, Elite Research Network, share information about the SCRS Site Invoiceables Toolkit created to help sites understand common billable items that a site should consider when assessing costs associated with a clinical trial.
Vincent Kolber—Chairman of RESIDCO, a transportation equipment leasing company—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his recent Wall Street Journal opinion editorial, “How Much Washington Really Owes: $100 Trillion.” Kolber writes that, according to calculations from the U.S. Treasury, “[t]otal liabilities were $34.8 trillion at the end of fiscal 2021. The Treasury reported assets at $4.9 trillion. Simple arithmetic brings us to the net position, negative $29.9 trillion. But this accounting leaves a lot out. Social insurance net expenditures calculates the difference between the expected future liabilities of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and similar programs over the next 75 years and the income these programs are expected to generate during the same period under current law. The Treasury reported these unfunded liabilities at $71 trillion at the end of fiscal 2021. That brings us to the alarming milestone. Add the net position of $29.9 trillion to the social insurance net expenditures of $71 trillion, and you find that they topped $100 trillion.” Read the full article at: https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-much-washington-really-owes-100-trillion-debt-social-insurance-expenditure-medicare-medicaid-treasury-11671571955?mod=opinion_lead_pos7

Mike Winther takes us on a little journey into studying the U.S. Constitution, but first we need to understand the proper role of government. We need to evaluate the constitution based on biblical principles and if it's a good document; we need to defend it. Once we decide the Constitution is a worthwhile document, then we need to learn about it. This lecture is part of an IPS Government, Economics and History Conference hosted for Christian Educators. This lecture is the first of two parts entitled Founding Principles in the U.S. Constitution. It was given on July 19th, 2011. You'll Learn: [02:42] There are three problems with our constitution. 1. Most Americans don't know what it says. 2. They don't know what it means. 3. We don't believe in its foundations. [04:00] Constitutional law is studying what the courts have done for or to the Constitution. It doesn't teach a lot about the intent of the Constitution or how it should be interpreted. [05:30] We need to understand the philosophical frame of the Constitution, the case law, and the mechanics. [06:05] Original intent. The founding fathers wrote this document and the words have meaning that's understandable and clear and concrete. [06:26] The Constitution is a living breathing document. Society has evolved. Our needs and our society are different and the Constitution should be different. It's okay to modify, broaden, or expand the Constitution. This is the living breathing document approach. [07:22] Strict intent. We should hold the Constitution as originally instructed. [07:37] Underlying principles. 1. Source of rights. 2. Source of government authority. [09:56] Good law is based on God's principles [13:01] Blackstone's work has been inserted in the Constitution. [14:28] 3. Nature of government. 4. Nature of man. [15:04] We have three branches of government which are executive, legislative, and judicial. The legislative is broken up between the Senate and the House, so technically we have four bodies of government. [16:58] Appointed or elected? Electoral college. The states appoint the members of The Electoral College. [18:50] A state popular election is used to choose the electors. The electors are chosen by the party of whoever gets the most votes. [23:28] The Senate was appointed until the 17th Amendment of the Constitution. [23:56] The Supreme Court Justices are appointed by a President. [25:12] Office holders represent the people who put them in office. [26:35] The presidency was designed to represent the state governments. States appoint senators. People elect the house. The President appoints the Supreme Court. [29:10] The federal government is a creation of the states. [30:55] Unfunded mandates. It's when the federal government passes a bill that says a state has to do something, and they're not getting any funds to do it. [35:38] States maintain sovereignty except where they give it up. The source determines the use. Your Resources: Principle Studies Books to browse Five Principles By Michael Winther Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England
Portland City Council voted Thursday to approve a plan to ban unsheltered homelessness and create mass outdoor homeless encampments across the city. The package of five resolutions, introduced by Mayor Ted Wheeler and City Commissioner Dan Ryan two weeks ago, outlines a number of aspirational and unfunded plans to address homelessness and housing needs. The initial proposal aimed to create up to three “designated camping sites” with space to hold up to 500 people in unidentified locations. Those wouldn't be created before the city secured funding for the camps, which it currently does not have. The proposal states that these sites would open to the public within 18 months after those funds are secured. Under the proposal, once those camps are open, the city would start enforcing a ban on camping in public spaces. If people decline to vacate public property, they will be subject to criminal penalties. However, the proposal requests funding and support from the Multnomah County District Attorneys' office to create a diversion court to keep those charged out of jail.

What you earn in retirement is generally based on what you earn while you work If you earn more, you get more in retirement If you earn less, you get less So if you earn more, it follows that you have more in retirement The reality is more complex though This is because life expectancy and inflation both grow over time This means that pensions will be less generous than expected It also means that the cost of pensions to the state or taxpayers will grow The reason for this is simple The reason for this is simple Life expectancy has grown faster than the pension system has increased benefits When the state pension was introduced in the 1940s, the average life expectancy was 65 for men and 71 for women This meant that the population was relatively young and the state pension was designed to be paid for from current tax receipts Today, life expectancy has grown to 79 for men and 83 for women This means that the pension system will have to pay out more than it did when the original assumptions were made This means higher costs and lower benefits So it follows that the cost of the state pension will grow faster than the rate of economic growth Government finances are thus likely to struggle to keep up The failure of the pensions system to deliver on their promises will be stark States owed a total of $1.25 trillion in unfunded pension benefits in fiscal 2019, the final year before the pandemic. People are living longer and drawing on their pension for greater lengths of time. Pew projections in September 2021 indicated that pension debt had decreased below $1 trillion by the end of fiscal 2021, and state pension plans reached the highest-funded level since the Great Recession. Unfunded pension liabilities as a share of 50-state personal income increased sharply during the Great Recession and kept growing until it peaked at 8.4% in fiscal 2016. That's because many states deferred contributions to pension systems during the downturn and then made insufficient payments to keep unfunded liabilities from rising. Growth was also partially driven by lower-than-expected investment returns, and in some cases, expanded but unfinanced benefits. In fiscal 2014, changes to accounting rules led many states to make more conservative projections about future investment returns, further increasing reported 50-state pension debt. https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/articles/2022/07/07/states-unfunded-pension-liabilities-persist-as-major-long-term-challenge But this is not the only reason why pensions will fail The biggest pensions challenge comes from the fact that private sector pensions are becoming increasingly underfunded According to the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) which represents the private sector, pension funds are currently underfunded The reason for the underfunding is simple The amount that can be saved is falling This is because the amount that can be saved is falling This is because people are having to work for longer, there are more people in work and companies are taking on fewer people This is the reason why many private sector pensions are underfunded --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/david-nishimoto/message

Colorado's Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) contains more than $30 billion of unfunded liability, which represents a potential disaster for Colorado taxpayers. The federal American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) is estimated to deliver an additional $3.9 billion to the state government, which, along with government revenue that is forecasted to grow to $936 Million above pre-pandemic levels in the next fiscal year budget, there is a unique opportunity for Colorado to make bold investments in its future and pay down some debt, likely including the large unfunded liabilities of PERA. Common Sense Institute President & CEO Kristin Strohm takes over hosting duties on this edition of Common Sense Digest and has the unique privilege of turning the tables on our usual host, CSI Chairman Earl Wright, who brings unique insight into the PERA discussion. Also joining us is Amy Slothower, Project Director for Secure Futures Colorado, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to public pension reform. Amy recently wrote a great opinion piece published in Colorado Politics a few weeks ago that helped to inspire this conversation. Additionally, Zachary Christensen, Managing Director at the Pension Integrity Project and Senior Policy Analyst for REASON Foundation joins the program. The Pension Integrity Project at Reason Foundation offers pro-bono consulting to public officials and other stakeholders to help them design and implement pension reforms that improve plan solvency and promote retirement security. All three unpack the contributing factors that led us here, assess the current situation, and examine the potential fixes in a lively and stimulating discussion. Our report on the issue can be found here.

Jason Hartman and Doug start off today's episode with a discussion on the issue of America's retirement savings. There's a looming problem with many people being unable to afford any form of an emergency expense, but also on the other end of the spectrum, as people are getting hit with taxes on their required minimum distributions. Then Jason has the first part of his interview with Laurence Kotlikoff, William Fairfield Warren Professor and Professor of Economics at Boston University, about the massive amount of unfunded mandates that are awaiting the United States. Currently he has that number pegged around $239 trillion, and there are only a few ways that can be resolved.
