David Waldman WILL RETURN from the Virgin Islands tomorrow! Meanwhile, let's take on an evergreen topic, the complete and utter corruption of Donald K. Trump and how that has infected every facet of American government. Ex-prosecutors are raising alarms over Ed Martin, who everyone, including Ed Martin, will tell you is anti-law/pro-Trump. White House aide Lynne Patton was suspended for violation of the Hatch Act. Strange, because who in the Trump administration hasn't violated the Hatch Act, and more vigorously? It's pretty much a job requirement. DOGEy lawyer Jeremy Lewin is a violent racist, also no doubt a feature, not a bug, leading to his promotion to lead the wreckage of USAID. The Department of Homeland Security wants to keep the number of people fired from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency a secret.
The Trump Administration has rescinded a rule related to the Hatch Act that now allows federal employees to wear campaign paraphernalia. That is only if the items are not in support of a person who is actively running for office. That may be confusing as potential candidates don't seem to ever stop campaigning in this era of influencer and branding. For some explanation of this move and what it could potentially mean for the Hatch Act overall, Federal News Network's Eric White spoke with Michael Fallings, Managing Partner at the law firm Tully Rinckey.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The Trump administration has reversed course on recent reforms of the Hatch Act. The Office of Special Counsel says it's returning to the status quo for two major changes announced last May. President Trump has been firing various Federal officials, many of whom serve pursuant to statutes that claim to provide protection against firing without cause. One of the most prominent, Hampton Dellinger, who served as Special Counsel of the United States, took the President to Court, winning at the Federal District Court before losing on appeal. Why did he sue? Why did he drop his case? What are the implications for the other firings being contested, and what does it mean for the office of the Special Counsel itself? The Special Counsel is a haven for whistleblowers; does that, along with the statutes' clear intent, offer him any protection? The Special Counsel also enforces the Hatch Act; we explain many of the ins and outs of that statute and how the history of the civil service is integral to understanding it. Finally, Hampton Dellinger comes from a most distinguished family, and there are some stories to tell on that score. CLE credit is available for lawyers and judges from podcast.njsba.com.
DJT openly defies the Hatch Act as he showcases Tesla vehicles on the White House lawn next to Elon Musk. The left thinks Elon Musk wearing a black MAGA hat in the Oval Office is a violation of the Hatch Act. Will Hamas comply with the Saturday afternoon deadline for a hostage release? One of the judges threatening the Trump Administration with criminal charges sits on the board of an NGO that received money from USAID. AP correspondent Haya Panjwani reports on an ex-FEMA worker and the Hatch Act
Donald Trump held a press conference this week that was so crazy it left the entire world questioning the sanity of the man that is about to become President again. Trump ranted for 70 minutes about everything under the sun, including using military force to take over Greenland and the Panama Canal; windmills; electric heaters that make you "itch"; Hezbollah apparently being part of the Capitol Riot; and how horrible America is. There's no doubt that there's something seriously wrong with this man.As his father escalates his threats to take over Greenland, Donald Trump, Jr. decided to make a visit to the territory this week, but his trip didn't even last a full 24 hours. Junior declared in a video posted on Instagram - that also featured right wing personality Charlie Kirk, for some reason - that the people of Greenland love his father, but that begs the question as to why he was forced to flee after less than a day. After being shot down by the appellate court in New York this week, Donald Trump immediately ran crying to the United State Supreme Court, begging them to halt his criminal sentencing that is scheduled for Friday. Even with the court's conservative majority, they have still ruled against him in this particular case in the past, so it isn't immediately clear if they are going to bail him out.A shocking new report from a DOJ Inspector General says that multiple officials at the Department of Justice during Donald Trump's last year in office attempted to illegally influence the 2020 election. The plan was to release damning information about Democratic governors during the COVID pandemic, but ONLY Democratic governors. The inspector general suggests that not only was this a violation of election laws, but there were also likely multiple Hatch Act violations, as well.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalancedTwitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=enText and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!

Today's show opens with the elements of a psychological operation or a PsyOp and how all of the hoaxes against Donald Trump mirror the same steps or stages. This leads to the two latest PsyOps perpetrated by the Left with aid from the propaganda wing of the Democrat Party. The first is a story from the Atlantic, saying Trump was derogatory against a Mexican-American airmen killed at Ft. Hood. The other says he admired the generals Hitler had around him. Both of these are false, but it didn't stop the press, which led to VP Harris using her official office to make a political statement, followed-up by WH Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre doing the same thing. Talk about violating the Hatch Act. Maybe they had to go all-in on the hoaxes to get ahead of a story we have known about in this audience for over three weeks. Apparently, the ex-girlfriend of 2nd Hubs Doug Emhoff is confirming the story of him slapping her across the face so hard in public she spun around in shock and embarrassment. We then spend a good amount of time breaking down her interview with NBC's Hallie Jackson, her interview with Julio Vaqueiro of Telemundo and then her CNN Town Hall with Anderson Cooper. Talk about one flaming pile of garbage after another. She lacks depth, knowledge and understanding of almost all topics and cannot answer any questions. The following shows on CNN pointed out her use of word salad, of not answering questions, of always trying to blame Donald Trump and for pontificating for long stretches of time. When you lose the likes of Frank Luntz, Van Jones, David Axelrod, Jake Tapper, Dana Bash, Scott Jennings and David Urban, you know it was a terrible night. We do end on a positive note! Tulsi Gabbard made it official. She is now officially a Republican. When it comes to the Art of the Deal, once again, Donald keeps winning, while the progressives continue to rack up the losses. Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson (retired) joins us once again to give his unvarnished view of the now yearlong ethnic cleansing of Gaza, an assault that has now extended into Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. Plus, our resident constitutional expert, Bruce Fein stops by to give us a quick take on how U.S. material support of the Israeli aggression in Lebanon, an ally of ours, is a clear violation of The Neutrality Act.Lawrence Wilkerson is a retired U.S. Army colonel. Over his 31 years of service, Colonel Wilkerson served as Secretary of State Colin Powell's Chief of Staff from 2002 to 2005, and Special Assistant to General Powell when he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 to 1993. Colonel Wilkerson also served as Deputy Director and Director of the U.S. Marine Corps War College at Quantico, Virginia, and for fifteen years he was the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Government and Public Policy at the College of William and Mary. He is currently a Senior Fellow at the Eisenhower Media Network, senior advisor to the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, and co-founder of the All-Volunteer Force Forum. The Jewish state in the Levant is finished. Now, if it wants to be a liberal democracy— if it wants to become a real democracy, it could possibly remain. But this Jewish state, especially in its current manifestation, which is the ultimate manifestation, has ended. It's through. The rest of the world, if nothing else, will terminate it just as it did the South African apartheid state. And it will happen—and it will happen despite the Empire's (The U.S.) protestations to the contrary. In fact, I predict ultimately when the Empire smells the tea leaves, it will probably join the crowd and tell them they have no choice but to be a liberal democracy—to invite what that means, which is ultimately a Palestinian Arab majority, and to even change their name to Israel-Palestine or Palestine-Israel or whatever. That's the future. The future is not Bibi Netanyahu.Col. Lawrence WilkersonNetanyahu talks about Joshua who moved on after Moses had given him instructions, and after the leadership had sort of fallen apart, and Joshua takes over. And they go in, and under God's instructions they are to kill everything in sight— leave no human being alive. And that's Netanyahu. Netanyahu thinks he's a latter-day Joshua, and that's what they're doing. They brought a thousand years of history's most rude, most bloodthirsty, most unbelievable procedures in waging war against another state or another people back into vogue again. And we're supporting it.Col. Lawrence WilkersonBruce Fein is a Constitutional scholar and an expert on international law. Mr. Fein was Associate Deputy Attorney General under Ronald Reagan and he is the author of Constitutional Peril: The Life and Death Struggle for Our Constitution and Democracy, and American Empire: Before the Fall. The Neutrality Act of 1794 in substance prohibits anyone in the United States from directing or supplying arms or assistance— or otherwise engaging in war—that is against a country with which the United States is formally at peace. The United States at present is at peace with Iran. It's at peace with Lebanon. Indeed, Lebanon's an ally. We already know that President Biden had ordered Navy ships to use their Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense in collaboration with Israel to shoot down Iranian missiles—an act of war. And now they basically said we are combatants with Israel and probably planning covertly to join military forces on the next initiative that Israel takes against Iran. So it's a clear violation of the Neutrality Act.Bruce FeinListeners, you have your Senators and Representatives campaigning, as we speak, in your communities. You ask them to come to your town meetings where they can hear you out, and where you require them to respond. This is their moment of vulnerability before the election.Ralph NaderIn Case You Haven't Heard with Francesco DeSantisNews 10/9/241. In These Times reports “U.S. Jewish Institutions Are Purging Their Staffs of Anti-Zionists.” This piece, based on interviews with 18 Jewish professionals at 16 different Jewish organizations over several months, yielded descriptions of “being fired, quitting under pressure, or seeing their roles disappear since October 7 for issues surrounding criticism of Israel or support for a permanent cease-fire.” The magazine identifies this trend as part of “a radical rightward turn in mainstream Jewish organizational life over the past year...[where] Support for Israel and its government's assault on Gaza appear to have become a defining feature of employability.” Shaul Magid, who teaches modern Judaism at Harvard Divinity School is quoted saying “More than an exercise in pro-Israel muscle, this is…an act of desperation. The liberal Zionist center is collapsing.”2. In a statement, the Hind Rajab Foundation – named for the five year-old girl killed by Israeli forces – has filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court accusing 1,000 Israeli soldiers of “war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Gaza.” The statement goes on to say “These individuals, all of whom have been identified by name, are accused of participating in systematic attacks against civilians during the ongoing genocide in Gaza,” examples of which include destruction of civilian infrastructure, illegal occupation and looting, and use of inhumane warfare tactics, among others. The Foundation alleges that this complaint is supported by over 8,000 pieces of verifiable evidence, including “videos, audio recordings, forensic reports, and social media documentation.”3. In a clash of the fast food titans, the Washington Post reports McDonald's has filed a lawsuit against Tyson Foods, Cargill, JBS and National Beef Packing alleging that the meat packing giants engaged in a “conspiracy…to fix, raise, stabilize and/or maintain the price of beef…at supra-competitive levels — that is, prices artificially higher than beef prices would have been in the absence of their conspiracy.” In this complaint, McDonald's alleges that “the price per hundred pounds of cattle had historically stayed within $20 to $40 of the average price per hundred pounds of wholesale beef…. [but] By 2021, the difference had ballooned to $156.50.” The meatpackers have been under increasing scrutiny for the past several years. “In 2020, the Justice Department…sent subpoenas to the four meatpackers in an antitrust probe. A year later, nearly 30 members of Congress sent...a letter, suggesting it was time ‘to determine whether the stranglehold large meatpackers have over the beef processing market violate our antitrust laws and principles of fair competition,'” and in 2022, JBS agreed to a $52.5 million settlement with direct purchasers.4. In the final days before the 2024 election, Republicans are launching a full-scale assault on the regulatory state. The National Review reports House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer is opening an investigation into Federal Trade Commission chair Lina Khan, accusing her of politicizing the agency by appearing at events with progressive lawmakers. These events have centered on policy – an event in Texas with Bernie Sanders and Greg Casar was focused on “corporate power and worker freedom,” while others have dealt with grocery prices, health care, and price gouging, per Punchbowl News – but Comer is alleging that these events were political in nature and thus prohibited by the Hatch Act. Meanwhile Mark Joseph Stern reports “Fourteen Republican attorneys general are suing to block a new [Federal Communications Commission] rule that would prohibit prisons from charging inmates extortionist rates for phone and video calls,” which can cost as much $54 each. It seems unlikely that these attacks on consumer protection rules will deliver political dividends for Republicans come November.5. In another bizarre GOP misstep, Indiana Senator Mike Braun recently said “the U.S. Supreme Court was wrong to legalize interracial marriage in…1967,” and that the decision should have “instead been left to individual states,” FOX59 Indianapolis reports. Braun then tied himself in knots saying that he condemned “racism in any form” but maintained that “We're better off having states manifest their points of view.” The Indiana Democratic Party condemned Braun's statements, calling his rhetoric “an endorsement of…dangerous white nationalist views.”6. Airline Geeks reports “Boeing has cut health care coverage for 33,000 of its workers and their families as [the] machinists union strikes continue to halt production in the Pacific Northwest.” International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers International President Brian Bryant responded to this clear attempt at strikebreaking by saying “Boeing executives cannot make up their mind…One day they say they want to win back the trust of their workforce. The next moment…Boeing executives are…tripping over dollars to get pennies by cutting a benefit that is essential to the lives of children and families, but is nothing compared to the cost of the larger problems Boeing executives have created …over the last ten years. Their missteps are costing not just the workers but our nation.” The Machinists have been on strike since September 13th, and Bryant said “Our members continue to be strong in their resolve and will not settle for anything but a fair contract that recognizes and rewards the critical and dedicated work they perform.”7. According to Documented NY, “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has run a secretive program for years where ICE agents have trained hundreds of civilian volunteers on how to operate multiple types of firearms, conduct investigations and surveillance of immigrants, and use lethal force on human beings.” Documents from this quasi-fascist program, revealed via FOIA request on October 1st, include “detailed images showing where to strike with a baton or a weapon to cause differentiated harms on the body…presentations on how to shoot a gun, point at targets, and stand in positions to fire…[with] One presentation slide suggest[ing] yelling ‘drop the gun' as a potential cover when employing lethal force against someone.” Ian Head, Open Records project manager at the Center for Constitutional Rights, calls this “a violent and racist program, where people pretending to be violent ICE officers got to hold guns and fire them in role-play situations where agents pretended to be immigrants.”8. More fascist news comes to us from Canada, where the Ottawa Citizen reports “The Department of Canadian Heritage is being told that more than half of the 550 names on the Memorial to the Victims of Communism should be removed because of potential links to the Nazis or questions about affiliations with fascist groups, according to government records.” Documents show the department had already determined that 50 to 60 of the names or organizations were directly linked to the Nazis. As the article notes, “The memorial was supposed to be unveiled in November 2023 but…was put on hold after members of Parliament honoured Yaroslav Hunka, a Ukrainian soldier with the Waffen-SS Galicia Division, a voluntary unit that was under the command of the Nazis. That incident became an international embarrassment for Canada.”9. In more positive news from our Southern neighbor, incoming Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced a new “Health at Home” program for seniors and persons with disabilities, per Latina Republic. The program, intended to reach 13.6 million people, “will bring healthcare personnel to the homes of all seniors across the country,” starting with a census to collect comprehensive health data to “establish a personalized care plan,” to be performed by over 20,000 new doctors and nurses. This ambitious program of preventative medicine is unimaginable in this country despite boasting a GDP almost 20 times the size of Mexico's.10. Finally, in Nebraska, a new poll from the Independent Center finds Independent Senate candidate Dan Osborne leading two-term incumbent Republican Deb Fischer by a remarkable 5 points. Currently the candidates stand at 42% for Fischer, 47% for Osborne, with 10% undecided. Voter registration in Nebraska totals 49% Republican, 26% Democrat, and 25% Independent, meaning Osborne has a path to victory via a Democratic-Independent coalition. If successful, Osborne could provide a model for victory in red states: run as a left-wing populist and jettison the toxic Democratic Party brand. This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Pete Buttigieg burst onto the political scene in 2019, and his rapid ascent into a legitimate presidential contender was one of the most surprising storylines of the 2020 Democratic primary. Today, he's one of the most effective communicators in the party. He was also one of many Democratic voters' favorite candidates for the Harris VP pick. Kara and Pete get straight to all of that in this episode: is the Harris campaign strategy working? ; Was Tim Walz the right pick for VP? How is Pete prepping the Minnesota Governor for his upcoming debate against J.D. Vance? And what is his strategy when he goes on Fox News? Kara and Pete also discuss the Trump cult of personality that has taken hold of young men and tech bros alike; the tech CEOs that need to “come home” to “normal” (you know who we're talking about); and why some of them continue to support politicians who vote against technological advancement and the core missions of the industry. *Note: Buttigieg appeared for this interview in his personal capacity. Kara was limited in asking questions relating to the Department of Transportation or anything about his role in President Biden's administration due to the Hatch Act. Questions? Comments? America has become increasingly polarized when it comes to trust. Voters who distrust the system — who see institutions as corrupt and are prone to conspiracy theories — have long existed on the far left and far right. But Donald Trump seems to have sparked a realignment, what the writer Matthew Yglesias calls “the crank realignment.” The G.O.P. is now the political home of the distrustful, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Trump endorsement was a clear sign of these changing times. In 2020, Pete Buttigieg wrote a book on trust in politics. And he's been persistent in making the case — in speeches, on TV — for what he calls “a better kind of politics.” So I wanted to talk to him about his theory of politics. Why does he think so many Americans have lost trust in the government? What responsibility does the Democratic Party have here? And how does he believe trust can be restored?Note: I invited Buttigieg on the show in his personal capacity so we could discuss his thoughts on the election without violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits members of the government from campaigning in their official guise. This also means I wasn't able to ask Buttigieg many questions about his work as transportation secretary. But I think we still had a pretty fascinating conversation.Book Recommendations:Morning and Evening by Jon FosseThe Future Is History by Masha GessenMr. Churchill in the White House by Robert SchmuhlThoughts? Elizabeth Neumann served as the Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism and Threat Prevention at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during the Bush Administration, and came back to the White House again in 2017 to serve in the Trump Administration. Her job was to counter emerging right-wing extremism, fueled by long-standing anger, resentment, white supremacism, and Christian nationalism. By April 2020, she had resigned from the Trump Administration. Citing a failure of leadership and his imperiling of American security, she signed an August 2020 statement with 130 other Republican national security officials, boldly stating in no uncertain terms that Trump was unfit for office. In this episode, Elizabeth opens up about this experience, told in her recent book Kingdom of Rage: The Rise of Christian Extremism and the Path Back to Peace. As a person of Christian faith with over two decades of experience in public service and national security, she offers a fascinating inside take on the inattention to domestic terrorism; she elucidates the emergence of a new and Christian extremism, grounded in rage and willing to take violent action; she explains the Jan 6 attack through the perspective of homeland security; and she reflects on Christian resources for responding to the chaotic, politicized anger characterized in right-wing extremism and how we might act as instruments of peace.About Elizabeth NeumannElizabeth Neumann served as the Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism and Threat Prevention at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during the Bush administration, and came back to the White House again in 2017 to serve in the Trump Administration, publicly resigning in 2020. On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, the Supreme Court just ducked a critical free speech and government control of communications issue thanks to Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, and John Roberts. Barrett decided she's a politician, not a Justice. Kavanaugh will go one way or the other and Roberts is destroying the Court. They just handed the Biden administration a massive iron fist by allowing them to continue to moderate ‘misinformation' on social sites. It seems the Supreme Court has a new tactic - to let stand what's being appealed to the Court by simply claiming there is no standing. The idea there wasn't standing in this case is preposterous. The other big Supreme Court case we're waiting on, that no one is talking about is Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council. This was the mother of all attacks on capitalism, it gave so much power to the bureaucracy. This decision will impact your lives for decades to come. Also, the crime from this illegal immigrant invasion didn't start occurring to this extent until Biden became president. President Biden will point fingers and blame Donald Trump and the Republicans for not passing his bipartisan immigration reform. Democrats have a new answer when confronted on illegal immigrant crime – Americans are worse than illegals. Later, a Biden law that claimed to boost renewable energy is helping a solar company reap billions of dollars. This is the greatest economic scam in American history, and they wrap themselves in self-righteousness. Afterward, the DNC is now officially linked to lawfare against Trump. Dana Bash and her ilk constantly ask where's the evidence tying Biden and the Democrat Party to lawfare against Trump. Here's the evidence, “DNC Sent Millions To Law Firms Behind ‘Unprecedented Lawfare' Campaign Against Trump.” Biden is the head of the DNC. Nothing of this kind is done without at least Biden being informed about it. Biden uses government resources to register Democrats in violation of the Hatch Act. He uses tax dollars to buy votes in violation of the Constitution, like the student loan program. He issues executive orders and his administration issues regulations in furtherance of his radical base's demands. He lies about everything, including the Hunter laptop, his business activities with Hunter, his use of classified information to secure a massive $8 million book advance, and on and on. Biden is a diabolical, cynical, unethical person and politician. Finally, candidate Tim Sheehy calls in to discuss his election run against Montana Senator Jon Tester. The Office of Special Counsel is looking to close what it says is a loophole in the Hatch Act, a law that limits federal employees' political activity while on duty. Among several updates to how OSC — an investigative arm of the Merit Systems Protection Board — will enforce and interpret the Hatch Act, one notable change looks at how OSC will handle violations from senior White House officials. Most Senate-confirmed officials are excepted from MSPB enforcement, but White House staffers are not. As such, non-Senate-confirmed White House officials will now be held to the same standards as all other career federal employees, OSC said in a May 20 advisory opinion. And yes, I am available for Pride Month speaking engagements. And if all this is too big a commitment, I'm always thankful for a simple cup of coffee.]Every American of a certain age and older knows this story well: in Peanuts, the all-time great comic strip by Charles M. Schulz, there's a long-running gag in which Lucy van Pelt holds a football in place and invites friend and neighbor Charlie Brown to kick it.And every single time, for five decades, Charlie Brown would earnestly run at the pigskin, sizing it up for a good, clean kick, and at the last possible moment, right before he makes contact—YOINK—Lucy would rip it away and Charlie Brown would swing his leg through a ghost and fall flat on his ass. There were somersaults. Shoes were lost. The sky would spin. SPLAT. As Charlie Brown lay there on the grass, forced yet again into a reexamination of his unyielding faith in the goodness of others, Lucy would stand over him, holding said ball, and offer a biting and witty observation. It was hilarious. It was glorious. It was frustrating in the best way possible. It became an annual tradition for the strip, appropriately marking a cultural beginning to autumn (or fall, if you will). Would this finally be the year that Lucy offers a respite of mercy and Charlie Brown kicks the damn ball?It never came to pass. Charlie Brown never did make contact. Schulz, one of the few public figures in the past 50 years whose easy wholesomeness gave Mister Rogers a run for his money, was consistently cruel on this particular matter. Say what you will about the eternal naïveté of Charlie Brown, but you can't fault his intention. His sole motivation was kicking the ball, and his sole fault was earnestly trusting Lucy.Last week, former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley announced during an interview that she would be supporting Donald Trump in the election, despite her many statements to the press condemning Trump's leadership and character.Like last June, when she said that Trump had been “incredibly reckless with national security” after the Justice Department announced its initial 37 charges against him in the ongoing classified documents case.Yes, you read that right: Haley is now endorsing a man she deemed “incredibly reckless” with national security. As of this writing, no political reporters have asked her about this incongruence.YOINK. SPLAT.Then there was the interview on CNBC the following month in which she said this about Trump: “We can't have, as Republicans, him as the nominee. He can't win a general election. That's the problem. We've got to go and have someone who can actually win.”She has not been asked about this by political reporters since her endorsement of Trump.YOINK. SPLAT.Or how about when Haley appeared on “Face the Nation” back in September and asserted to host Margaret Brennan that Americans would not “vote for a convicted criminal” when asked if she'd vote for Trump if he were the nominee and convicted in any of his four pending indictments. As Trump's hush money trial enters final arguments today—and it looks more than likely he'll be convicted—as of this writing, no political reporters have asked her about this statement, one which was offered on one of the most well-known news programs in the country.YOINK. SPLAT.What about in January, when Haley was asked about Trump's various legal battles with E. Jean Carroll, whom he raped and defamed and was found liable for said defamation by two separate predominantly-male juries? Haley claimed she hadn't looked at the details of the then-pending trial, but that if Trump were found guilty, “he should pay the price.”She has not been asked about this statement by any political reporters since her endorsement of Trump.YOINK. SPLAT.(By the way, imagine taking it in good faith that Haley hasn't “looked into the details” of a nationally publicized trial in which the leader of her party is accused of defamation toward the woman he raped.)In February, Trump, during a rally, mocked the absence of Haley's husband on the campaign trail, who was then serving an overseas deployment with the South Carolina National Guard.Haley responded to Trump, in part: “Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about. Someone who continually disrespects the sacrifices of military families has no business being commander in chief.”Then, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Haley said that Trump being the Republican presidential nominee is “like suicide for our country.”She has not been asked about either of these statements by any political reporters since her endorsement of Trump.YOINK. YOINK. SPLAT. SPLAT.Just three months ago, Haley followed that up with an NBC News interview in which she called Trump “unhinged” and “diminished.”Have any political reporters asked her about this since her endorsement? They have not.YOINK. SPLAT.Remember Haley's tenure as Trump's U.N. Ambassador? She was often referred to as a “voice of moderation” within the administration, though political reporters were never quite able to explain exactly how she was moderate. Her time as U.N. Ambassador was notable for: supporting the move of U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, backing up Trump's withholding foreign aid from innocent Palestinian civilians, supporting Trump's withdrawal of the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal, defending Trump's withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement, withdrawing the U.S from the United Nations Human Rights Council herself, and flagrantly violating the Hatch Act just months into her tenure, for which she was firmly chastised by the Office of Special Counsel.Do any of these sound like moderate positions? They don't meet the low threshold of having a moderating influence, much less being moderate. You guessed it: she has rarely been asked about any of these conflicting details by political reporters in the past several years and certainly not since her endorsement of Trump.YOINK and SPLAT.Folks, this is the nutshell version. There are examples of this stretching back into her early career: as a state representative in South Carolina and then governor, she constantly staked a position and then reneged on it in a cynical manner when the political winds starting blowing in an inconvenient direction. It's nothing new for Haley. This is who she's always been — always hedging her bets, always speaking out both sides of her mouth, always pretending to have red lines and then later pretending those red lines never existed, acting almost shocked if a reporter even asks about them.Political reporters have given Haley pass after pass after pass all these years. She lies and misleads and obfuscates and flip-flops, and still, they do it. It's why I predicted all throughout Nikki Haley's supposed campaign for president that she would eventually endorse Trump, despite what political press told us, despite their inexplicable and immediate embrace of her messaging, ignoring her entire history of lying and cynical tactics. Why? Because she's nice to them at cocktail parties, and they need access from a Republican with her influence. Lucy and Charlie Brown. Every time. Without fail.Fairly soon, Nikki Haley will be on Sunday news shows and she'll be lightly challenged on her endorsement for Trump and she'll demur and give weak-ass, equivocating responses as she always has and the hosts may push back a little and they may even bring up her past statements, though I doubt it, and she'll demur again and they'll thank her for coming on.YOINK. SPLAT.The last football “kicking” strip was published October 24th, 1999, a few months before Schulz' death from a heart attack in his sleep while undergoing cancer treatment.Lucy is sitting there and inviting Charlie Brown to kick it, as always, when Rerun, her brother, comes out and tells Lucy that their mother is demanding she come eat lunch. Lucy mutters “good grief” and invites Rerun to take her place holding the ball. Charlie Brown is more optimistic than ever that this is his moment. Finally. But we never see what happens immediately after that. In the following panels, Rerun returns home and Lucy asks him for details, and Rerun replies: “You'll never know…”Maybe we never will.
