Residents of the Marpole neighborhood in Vancouver, British Columbia suddenly found themselves double-checking their deadbolts when an unidentified killer senselessly murdered two valuable members of the community. 64-year-old Dianna Mah-Jones, and her husband, 68-year-old Richard Jones were discovered in their home on September 26th, 2017. It was a massacre inside, one that law enforcement officials would never forget.
Episode 139: On September 27, 2017, when Dianna Mah-Jones failed to show up for her shift without calling in sick, her co-workers were concerned. Neither Dianna nor her husband, Richard Jones, was answering the phone. One of Dianna's colleagues went to the couple's home in Vancouver's Marpole neighbourhood and discovered what appeared to be a bloody crime scene. Dianna and Richard lay dead inside the house, brutally murdered. After a complex and intense investigation police had their suspect. He was an odd man, with an odder name and an ever more odd explanation for what he had done. After local headlines, reporter Alex de Boer speaks with COPE city councillor Jean Swanson about last week’s contested redevelopment rejection at 4575 Granville Street. Councillor Swanson says her major concern with supporting this particular redevelopment, is its unaffordability. After that, News Collective reporters Christina Song and Adeline Peng ask Vancouverites what they think of a new South Granville, three-section crosswalk, designed by Musqueam artist Robyn Sparrow. The show ends with a collective discussion on public art.
Recently 250 residents who live in the Marpole area protested against a proposed project by the City of Vancouver to build modular housing for the homeless. The message from residents who gathered at West 57th and Heather Street was they support more housing and services for homeless people but not at that location, which is within a couple blocks of Sir Wilfred Laurier elementary school, Sir Winston Churchill secondary and Churchill’s Ideal Mini School. They claim that because the homeless consist predominantly of drug addicts and the mentally ill, the safety of their children would be at risk. How should a Christian respond if something similar was to be built beside them or near where their children go to school? Jonathan responds in this IMCO. Enjoy!

Rents deemed unaffordable in Vancouver/City to expand supply of ‘family' units of apartments/condos Canada's largest credit union is warning that young workers who have long since abandoned hope of owning a home in the Vancouver area are now being priced out of the city's rental market. A new report from Vancity explores the tight rental market across Vancouver and the problem it poses for the so-called millennial generation. Vancity vice-president of community investment, William Azaroff, says the report shows only the Marpole and East Hastings neighbourhoods remain affordable for the average worker under 40, earning less than $40,000. http://bc.ctvnews.ca/vancouver-rental-market-too-pricey-for-young-workers-report-1.2977311 Families looking for housing in Vancouver may soon see a much-needed break if a new housing proposal passes City Council. Vancouver City Council is set to vote on an upcoming proposal that could require new strata housing developments have 35 per cent of their units include two bedrooms or more. The plans hope to increase the supply of family-suitable units across the region through a new housing policy that will require 25 percent of units in multi-family strata rezoning projects to be two-bedrooms and 10 per cent to be three bedrooms or more. http://globalnews.ca/news/2812267/vancouver-plans-to-expand-housing-supply-for-fa
