The 2024 film ‘Salem's Lot' is an adaptation of Stephen King's novel about a writer who returns to his hometown to find it under attack by vampires: Plot Ben Mears, a writer who spent part of his childhood in Jerusalem's Lot, Maine, returns to his hometown after 25 years to write a book about the Marsten House. He discovers that an ancient evil has come to town and is turning the residents into vampires. Ben vows to stop the plague of undead and save the town. Characters The main vampire is Kurt Barlow, a bald-headed coffin-dweller played by Alexander Ward. Ben's assistant, Richard Straker, played by Pilou Asbæk, acquires the Marsten House, a Victorian-style murder mansion. Tone Some say the film is filled with jump scares and deaths, with characters being bitten, shot, and hit by a car. Others say the film doesn't get under your skin enough and doesn't have time to develop the characters. Release The film was announced in 2019, shot in 2021, and with additional photography in 2022. https://mostlysuperheroes.com/season-5-blogcast/salems-lot-2024-film ©2024 Carrogan Ventures, LLC

After Fr. Callahan fails his crisis of faith and leaves, and after Susan is transformed and slain, the rest eventually kill Barlow and Straker. It may be November, but Halloween still haunts us. And YOU, if you dare listen to The Final Chapter of the 18th Annual A-Z of Horror Festival! It's a festival first! A guest host! As the Common Craig's sister, Average Amy, creeps out of that casket in the root cellar, to help us sink our fangs into the original mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot (1979). Vampires, the Marsten House, and a lot of small town 70s drama. If you can't manage to find something that offends you at least a little bit in this movie, you're even more disturbed than the Common Craig. Good for you. This is THE Troma movie. The original monster hero born out of toxic waste. The Toxic Avenger (1984)!If you're going to make a run at following Scream during the 90s slasher resurgence, you'd better have a good gimmick. And some attractive, young, up-and-coming talent. Plus horror veterans like Danielle Harris, Brad Dourif and Robert Englund. Does it work? Or is Urban Legend (1998) as effective as Pop Rocks and soda?A television is shipped to a house instead of an institute for studies of the occult. That may not sound like a problem, but when The Video Dead (1987) emerge from that TV, even when it's unplugged, your weekend is probably going to be ruined. If you've ever wanted to take a course on skiing, you may have second thoughts after this one. I mean, you'll at least be very particular when choosing which instructors you spend time with. Because these three? They make me very uncomfortable. Just stay away from Wolf's Hole (1987).And if you decide to make some porn in middle-of-nowhere Texas, please make sure that you know who you're renting that boarding house from. Things do not go well in Ti West's X (2022).Just imagine being raised in seclusion in a cave until you're a teenager. And when you finally emerge, you know nothing of the world. When witchcraft is the base of your knowledge, learning what it means to be human may prove to be quite a struggle, but You Won't Be Alone (2022).Movie parents always seem so freaked out about their kids having imaginary friends. But with Z (2019), at least there's a very valid reason for concern.
Ben Mears revisits his old childhood home in order to write the definitive book about the old Marsten House and the evil that it brings. Perfect timing as local antique dealer slash vampire guardian, Straker shows up to bring his boss into the doomed town. Join Ciaran and Trevor as they discuss this mini series and how it still holds up even by todays standards. Enjoy! #Salem's Lot
Derek and Kieran are delighted to be joined by actor Lance Kerwin. The golden boy of 1970's American TV Lance was a staple in many hit shows including, Little House on the Prairie, James at 15 along with movies such as The Loneliest Runner and The Boy Who Drank Too Much. However it would be the 1979 mini series Salem's Lot that would become his most iconic role to date. Lance gives us the inside story behind the making of this classic horror. Was Mr Barlow as terrifying on set? Was he actually scared filming the scene in the cellar of the Marsten House? And were those Glick boys as freaky in the flesh? Let Christy Take It bring you Lance Kerwin. Big window tap kudos to our editor Mark Cullen for all his hard work.

On this episode of Daily Dead's official podcast, Heather Wixson discusses Tobe Hooper's 1979 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's ’Salem's Lot with special guest Jared Rivet (screenwriter of 2017's Jackals, staff writer on 2021's Day of the Dead series and 2019's Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival, producer of 2007's Raw Footage, writer and voice actor on the Earbud Theater audio drama). From its emotional performances and bold direction to its gothic atmosphere and haunting vampire makeup effects, listen as Heather and Jared (who worked with Hooper) revisit the Marsten House, face The Master, and reflect on what still makes Salem's Lot so scary more than 40 years after it first premiered on CBS.
Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. After the success of his novel CARRIE (1974), Stephen King followed up with what some considered a more traditional novel, ‘SALEM’S LOT (1975), based strictly within the most popular horror subgenre of all, vampires. However, unlike the traditional vampire story, he took the DRACULA tale and placed it squarely into a small New England town; basically using PEYTON PLACE (in a sense) as a vampire setting. Ben Mears, an unsuccessful author, heads back to Jerusalem’s Lot, a small town in Maine that he used to spend summers at. As a child, during a dare, he entered an abandoned home of a former Boston Irish mobster. Inside he swore he saw the ghost of hitman Hubie Marsten. Now he wants to write a book on the Marsten House and also face his own “ghosts” from the past. A big success for Stephen King’s sophomore effort, the book was turned into a TV mini-series directed by Tobe Hooper and also once more in the 2004 starring actor Rob Lowe. Dark Discussions takes a look at the novel and discusses it thoroughly as only fans can. "Books are the closest thing to magic." Chief Exec of the National Centre for Writing Chris Gribble is back on the podcast for episode #50, celebrating not only a year of the podcast but also the first full year of the Centre re-opening after the refurbishment of Dragon Hall in 2018. Inside this very podcast you will find out which two books changed Chris' life, his favourite books of the last year and who would win in a fight: Jane Austen or George Eliot. Also: the 10-year journey to bring the NCW to life, why we're based in Norwich, what the literature world can do to reduce its carbon footprint and why Dragon Hall is a bit like Marsten House in Salem's Lot (but not really). Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. The derivative vampire novel in the modern era (assuming the modern era is the last 50 years) is none other than Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot. The novel was the second by the author, released in 1975, and became an instant best seller with its tale of an evil rooted in a small town that turns out to be more corporeal rather than figurative. Struggling author Ben Mears returns to the town of his childhood to begin research on a new novel based off the Marsten House which sits upon a hill above the town. During his return, an antiques shop opens by two men named Barlow and Straker. When there is a disappearance of a young boy, the three new comers are looked upon as possible suspects by the local constable. Soon a group of residents ban together when certain pieces to the puzzle lead to an underlying evil. In 1979, Tobe Hooper’s adaption of the novel, was made into the “movie-of-the-week” mini-series on television. The screenplay was written by Paul Monash, who’s work on Peyton Place and small town New England, seemed to be a brilliant choice. Dark Discussions takes a look at this beloved movie and the book and gives their thoughts.
