In this episode of Inside the Rope, David Clark speaks with David Gribble, the newly appointed CEO of Alceon, one of Australia's leading multi-strategy private capital firms. Against a backdrop of heightened market volatility and growing media scrutiny of private credit, David Gribble shares his perspective on the evolving role of private markets and how Alceon is positioning itself through this cycle. The conversation explores Gribble's unique journey from engineering and investment banking to leading Alceon, and why the firm's deep bench of local expertise, asset-backed focus, and collaborative investment approach offers clients confidence during periods of uncertainty. We also dive into how Alceon balances opportunity and risk across real estate credit, private equity, and structured credit—and why disclosure and proactive transparency are central to maintaining investor trust in the private markets space. As regulation looms and headlines focus on risks, this episode offers measured insight into the difference that experience, structure, and true alignment can make.
What happens when a peaceful society faces a brutal threat it never saw coming? In this episode, we talk with fantasy author Peter Gribble, creator of “The City of the Magicians” series and author of book one, Threat. Drawing from his background in psychology, history, and education, Gribble explores what happens when complacency meets chaos—and how intellect, strategy, and even a little magic might be the keys to survival. Set in a richly imagined world, Threat follows characters like Lilia, who finds herself drawn into an underground movement while searching for her mother's manuscript. Set in a society that must adapt or fall, the story explores themes of pacifism, unity, and hidden resistance. Gribble also shares personal stories from his time growing up in postwar France, studying figures like Gandhi, and what magic means in both fantasy and real life. We also dive into his experience writing for gardening magazines, working in bookstores, and his views on how memory and awareness shape our lives and our stories. Whether you love fantasy with a psychological twist, or you're curious about the intersection of intellect and imagination, this conversation is for you.
Episode 534 - Peter Gribble - Welcome to the City of the Magicians - a looming crisis is about to reinvigorate Magic in all its wonders and dangersCanadian Author, Peter Gribble has written for NUVO and other magazines in British Columbia. For over ten years he wrote a monthly gardening column for a local Vancouver paper. The City of the Magicians is his first published series.I wondered how a pacifist, non-violent city-state could effectively prepare for a barbarian invasion while keeping their integrity intact. The City Council comes up with a decent solution plus a way of delivering it but as usual with good ideas they can hit unexpected snags. Then there were the images hanging about in my head patiently waiting for me to write towards them. When they are ready (or I am) they pop onto the page as if readymade. It's not writing; more like taking dictation. One of these images haunted me for years until it finally found its place in the third book of the series: In the midst of a fire, an unknown book's flyleaf is blown smoking into your grasp. On it is a dedication inscribed to someone you know.https://petergribble.com/https://publishing.tellwell.ca/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca

Get to know Nancy Leeds Gribble and NourishLiftGrow better here: https://www.nancyleedsgribble.comQuote:I think when you start your business if you don't take the time to really figure out why you're starting it. If it was ‘This sounds like it will be fun” and then you find out it's not so fun all the time, you won't sustain it. So you really want to sit down and figure out why are you starting this business? Like, what is your driving force, aside from, we need to make money, we have to make money. But what are the other deeper reasons that this is so important to you? And that's going to help you when you hit that wall, and you will hit a wall and think it's very few people that they just start a business and off they go, and they're coasting and everything is great. You're going to hit the wall, whether it's because something didn't work, whether it's life, like God the world like COVID when it hit everybody, and you're going to have to either say, at that moment, I'm out, or no, this was important. And I'm going to figure this out, and I'm going to pivot And I'm going to adjust and, and you keep doing that you keep doing that until you hit the spot. –Nancy Leeds Gribble Show notes timestamps:

This pre-bluegrass style I learned from Stu Jamieson,
Our guest today, Nancy Leeds Gribble, thought she had it all. She was a successful realtor, married to the love of her life, and mother to a happy child. Then tragedy struck, changing her world forever. Living in a haze of grief for several years, Nancy decided to take control of her life, and change her mindset, and her priorities. In 2014, she enrolled in the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, immersed herself in her love of health and fitness, and once again, found joy. Fast forward to today, and Nancy is a Culinary Nutrition & Lifestyle Expert. She wants you to know you don't have to be defined or restricted by your age. With an emphasis on whole foods, plant-based eating, and exercise, she helps women – especially women over 50 - achieve sustainable health, mind and body transformations to live longer, happier lives. Join us to hear Nancy's powerful story of resilience and hope! “Most women my age are very calorie-focused. So it's if you want to lose weight, energy in, energy out. How many calories do you consume, how many calories go out? Right? And so instead of just saying, ‘Okay, 1,500 calories. Have at it. Go eat whatever you want, even if it's plant-based.' We break it down. I break it down into within that 1,500 calories. I would like you to consume anywhere from 25%-35% of that in protein, maybe 40% in healthy carbohydrates, and 30% in healthy fats. What I loved when I learned about macronutrients – so those are your proteins, your fats, and your carbs – was that they're very tailored to the person. So it's based on your age, your height, your goals, your lifestyle. So it's not a one-size-fits-all, and I think that's the beauty of it.” – Nancy Leeds Gribble What we discuss in this episode: How faith sustained Nancy through grief. How she stopped yo-yo dieting. How to optimize your plate. Myths about menopause. The truth about carbs, cardio, and weight loss. The importance of strength training. Nancy's mindset tips. The body positivity movement. Nancy's tips for dealing with procrastination. This week, retired Arizona police officer and Demon Slayer, Travis Gribble joins Chris on the podcast. On Travis's website, he writes, "In 2016, I experienced what I now know to be a life-changing call. For five years after the call, I never sought appropriate help and I was slowly self-destructing within. As the years and calls went by my cup was reaching capacity and in 2021, I was brought to my knees. Thankfully I was put in touch with a therapist who specializes in first responder care and I began the journey of healing."Travis breaks down the calls that impacted him most and the lessons he has learned about himself in the healing process.GRAB SOME GRAVITY GEARConnect with / Follow TravisWebsite I Instagram I FacebookOrganization SpotlightsService Peace WarriorConnect with GravityLinkedIn I Facebook I Instagram I YouTube I Website I MERCHANDISEContact Chris or Jaimie at: chris@gravityct.comMusic credit: https://pixabay.com/music/corporate-news-corporate-8307/

During this introduction, did you think of an elephant? If so, you just showed the power of this point! David “Gribs” Gribble grew up in Brisbane, AU and began studying photography at night school. He became a photo assistant, moved to Sydney, and found a job at a local film studio making commercials and low-budget movies. At the time, in the 1970's and '80's, Australia was experiencing a resurgence of its cinema, known as the Australian New Wave. The government provided tax incentives for ordinary people to invest in movies, and established the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. The country's film industry was jump started, and the genre known as Ozploitation was born. Gribs learned camera operating on the job. His first feature film was The Man From Hong Kong, followed by the Aussie cult classic race movie, Running On Empty. The film Monkey Grip won some awards, and Gribs was asked to shoot his first American movie, Off Limits, starring Willem Dafoe and Gregory Hines. He thinks that working with American actors was different than working with Australian actors- the Americans seemed to be more prone to distraction and sensitive about their appearance. Gribs learned to “light faces, not places” since that's where the dialog comes from, and flattering actors by telling them how great they look in a particular spot, to give them tools to make themselves look better on screen. He also learned that in lighting, it's better to work with a broad brush and shoot before you're ready- as a cinematographer, don't indulge yourself too much. The movie Cadillac Man was challenging to shoot for a few reasons. The movie takes place almost entirely in one location- at the car dealership. Gribs had to combat flat lighting up against the walls of the office, as well as dealing with reflections from shiny cars and large windows. Director Roger Donaldson shot take after take, because actor Robin Williams was constantly improvising off script. Gribs found him extremely funny, and says there was so much extra footage of Williams that was cut out, it could probably make another movie. Gribs also discusses working with Anthony Hopkins on The World's Fastest Indian, Jean-Claude Van Damme on The Quest and shooting the Jesse Stone movies starring Tom Selleck. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, we are joined by our long lost former intern turned Production Assistant who ABANDONED the podcast to go for a silly little hike, called thru-hiking the CDT, Elise "SOS" Ott alongside her fiancé, Josh "Kid" Gribble. This is a Sunday morning interview, which of course means mimosas are involved, setting the mood perfectly to learn all about Elise and Josh's adventures on the CDT. We chat in depth about their epic proposal (spoiler alert), the highs and lows of their trek, we get a thorough primer of fly fishing, especially in the context of backpacking, and much more. It goes without saying, but this is a fun conversation amongst pals and if you disagree you are wrong. We wrap the show with a triple crown of spices, our top food buzzwords, and some details of the Holiday Hiker Meetup Extravaganza that we're hosting on December 10th in Golden (head to our Instagram to get the full deets). Travis Gribble retired in February of 2022 after 23 years in law enforcement. For half of his career, he worked in Michigan for a small Sheriff's Department, and then the other half was in Mesa, Arizona. Travis served in a SWAT capacity for a total of 16 years with 9 of those years being full-time SWAT in Mesa. In 2016, after being on the Mesa full-time team and being an Assistant Team Leader, Travis made the decision to test for Sergeant. The first step after the test finalization is what Mesa calls the "Step" program, a training program officers must complete before being officially promoted. In simple terms, it's really a ride-along with a senior Sergeant who shows you the ropes. The start of Travis's training began in January of 2016, working the day shift. His very first call out of the station, on his very first training day, was the call that changed his life. The next five years were hell and ultimately led to Travis seeking his retirement, after getting the help he needed.
