This week's episode of the Global Research News Hour is a rebroadcast of a round table discussion featuring the late investigative journalist and CIA whistleblower Michael C Ruppert. The talk was aired roughly on the 6 month anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The broadcaster, Canada's VISION TV, was the first national television network in the world to feature critical perspectives of the official story of the terrorist attacks that brought down the WTC towers, killed thousands and directly contributed to the so-called global war on terrorism. Panelists discussed the failure of standard aircraft intercept protocols, evidence of foreknowledge and guilty demeanour on the part of US officials, evidence of oil pipelines and Afghanistan drug production as a motive for the crime, the compromising of Canada's sovereignty, and the proper role of journalists as they covered this unique event and its consequences. Joining Ruppert on the panel were VISION TV Insight executive producer Rita Deverell, Journalist-educator Peter Desbarats, former chair of Canada's Security Intelligence Review Committee Ron Atkey QC., and peace activist and ethicist Phyllis Creighton. On April 13, 2014, Michael Ruppert had just completed his final broadcast of his weekly radio show The Lifeboat Hour, which he has helmed since September 12, 2010. He went to an outdoor meditation spot on the property at which he had been residing. When he was found, he had apparently shot himself in the head with a Glock 30 .45 caliber pistol.  He was 63. Mike Ruppert had become one of the most outspoken and compelling voices in the realm of independent journalism and analysis. He brought to the table a stupendous command of economic, historical and political issues. Ruppert represented a convergence of valuable traits which included an academic's restless intellect, a cop's eye for detail, a heart-felt passion for justice, and the street-level experience of a whistleblower who broke ranks with the people he trusted in the name of an all too uncommon ethical code that he lived by. He was able to bring to the table the critical arguments challenging official government narratives about the global economy, the 9/11 attacks, the fratricidal death of Pat Tillman, CIA drug dealing in Black communities throughout the US, peak oil as a causative factor underlying US foreign policy, and many, many other stories. This week, the Global Research News Hour pays tribute to Mr. Ruppert on the occasion of his recent tragic death. The podcast contains audio from past speeches and a previously recorded conversation with him, as well as post-mortem conversations with five individuals who knew and worked with Mike Ruppert over the years. Carolyn Baker is a long-time acquaintance of Mike Ruppert's. She was an adjunct professor of history and psychology for 11 years and a psychotherapist in private practice for 17 years. She authored several books related to the concept of societal collapse. She contributed to Ruppert's on-line newsletter From The Wilderness, and co-hosted his final radio broadcast before he died. Kellia Ramares-Watson is an Oakland-based independent journalist and broadcaster. She was Bonnie Faulkner's co-host on the very first broadcast of Guns and Butter for radio station KPFA back on October 12, 2001. This debut episode featured none other than Mike Ruppert with his initial impressions of the 9/11 attacks and the US role in failing to prevent the attacks. The transcript of that interview is available on the Global Research website. Wesley Miller was Mike Ruppert's attorney, executor and personal friend. He replaced Ruppert as CEO and President of COLLAPSENET, the on-line community portal for individuals and communities seeking to transition away from a dependence on fossil fuels and industrial civilization. Barrie Zwicker is a long-time independent journalist and media critic. He became one of the first people in the world to publicly critique the official story of 9/11 on a national television broadcast. Barrie was largely for getting RUppert's analysis of 9/11 aired on Canadian television and paid tribute to him in his 2006 book Towers of Deception: The Media Cover-up of 9/11. Guy McPherson is Professor Emeritus of Natural Resources and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona. He has appeared on Ruppert's radio show a number of times pioneering his research pointing to the prospects for the Near Term Extinction of the human species due to climate change. Mike Ruppert, Editor and Publisher of www.fromthewilderness.com and author of Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil spoke at SolFest at the Solar Living Institute in Hopland, California in August 2005 where this interview occurred. Ruppert, a former Los Angeles narcotics police officer, has been a teller of truth as he sees it for many many years. He was shot at, his life was threatened and when he reported it to LAPD Chief Darly Gates, Gates responded (through an aide) that he was too busy to see Ruppert, and that he'd see him in a week to 10 days if he (Ruppert) was still alive. At that Ruppert resigned from the LAPD. He has retained, and possibly strengthened his committment to telling the truth.He was one of the first independent investigators to look into what really caused the tragic events of 9/11/2001 and has continued to be a leader in the movement to uncover the 9/11 cover-up. From the beginning of this investigation and discussion he has claimed that the peaking of oil and natural gas and diminishing natural resources were central in why some people in high places in the US plan and carry out such terrorizing actions in order to convince people that the US needs to attack, for instance, Afghanistan and Iraq, in order to control what oil there remains. This is not the only reason, but one of the main ones.In this recent interview he shares that, in his opinion, the issues of peak oil (the end of cheap oil and therefore the end of the industrial world as we know it) and gas and climate change now overshadow any other issues facing us because the survival of humans and other life on earth are at stake. Our very survival is the issue due to the natural and political threats facing us. He explains what he sees happening geopolitically in the world in terms of China, Venezuela, Iran, etc.. It is Ruppert's opinion that the US economy will collapse by December 2005 (and this was before the hurricane tragedy that just happened in Louisiana and Mississippi). As usual, Mike Ruppert, has much of interest and importance to say.

Ruppert was in town to talk to the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on Aug. 31. While in the Bay Area he did an interview for Steppin' Out of Babylon. He talks about his upcoming book-- available in about mid-September from www.fromthewilderness.com and from general release in October. The title is Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil. It's a very well documented account of what happened on 9/11/2001 among other things.In this interview Ruppert describes what prevented planes from immediately intercepting the hijacked planes as they normally would have, and he names Cheney as being in charge of the operations of that day from the White House.
