Join Jill for the five-year anniversary of Be YOU - a special live podcast event celebrating 300 episodes of the podcast - on Saturday, October 25th from 1–5 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Tickets are selling fast at jillherman.com/beyou, and discounted rooms are available at a boutique hotel right next door! Jill opens up in this vulnerable episode in which she discusses the difficult situation that she is currently in caring for her sick father. She shares how she has had to step back from her usual podcast schedule to focus on this challenge and how it has been truly physically, mentally, and emotionally draining for her. Listen as she discusses the importance of being gentle and compassionate with yourself during challenging times rather than judging or criticizing yourself. Even though she knows the importance of self-care and being well-resourced, she shares how she has found herself neglecting her own needs in the process as she has poured everything into caring for her father, recognizing that this is a pattern that she has fallen into before when faced with difficult circumstances. Jill openly shares the specific ways that she has been struggling such as forgetting to eat, drink water, exercise, and get proper rest, explaining how this has led to her becoming increasingly depleted and unable to function at her best and ultimately realizing that she needed to take a difficult but necessary step - asking for help. Jill's sincerest hope in sharing this personal journey on the show is that it resonates with listeners who may be going through their own difficult seasons. She reveals how she wants to encourage everyone to be kind to themselves, set boundaries, and to not hesitate to reach out for support when needed. Even when life gets overwhelming, self-compassion is so incredibly important! Show Notes: [02:53] - Jill is discussing having to prioritize self-compassion by accepting her limits during an emotionally challenging time. [04:56] - Instead of judging herself, Jill used tools and self-kindness to manage exhaustion. [06:36] - Jill shares how, knowing that she is depleted, she forgives herself and applies self-care with compassion. [08:33] - Hear how, even when deeply depleted, Jill knows that returning to basic self-care is her best defense. [11:08] - Overwhelmed, Jill reverted to old patterns and neglected her own needs and boundaries. [14:28] - Jill admits to having slipped into martyrdom, forgetting to balance caregiving with self-care. [17:33] - Rather than self-blame, Jill has accepted her limits and has finally reached out for help, even though it was difficult for her. [20:49] - Jill, despite feeling exhausted, creatively problem-solved, securing assistance after admitting that she had tried to do too much on her own. [22:47] - Jill encourages others to question overextension, recognizing that it often masks self-worth patterns that are based on past trauma. [25:40] - Now with help, Jill can finally be present with her dad as a daughter and not as a nurse. Have you ever felt burnt out? What caused that feeling? And what happens when it's caused by something that you love? In today's episode, Rachel takes a walk down memory lane, connecting the dots on all the different moments where she pushed herself to the point of depletion in order to create something. And the truth is - it has been happening throughout her entire life. She shares very honestly that she is struggling to find the balance between creation and depletion, and worrying about a very scary question: what if this is just how her personality works? Life asks so much from all of us. We have to balance our dreams and goals with our families and all the logistical things that keep everything flowing. Maybe it's all too much. And maybe time isn't moving too fast - it's just our stress taking us out of the present moment. Tune in for a story about burnout, not having all the answers, but preserving on when there is nothing left to do. What if the voice you're allowing to lead your life isn't God's, but the enemy's? In today's episode, Lindsey Maestas is diving deep into what it means to truly treasure God's Word in our hearts and why Scripture memory isn't just a “nice” spiritual discipline, but a foundational key to fighting sin, strengthening our faith, and anchoring our identity in Christ. She discusses how filling our minds with God's Word can silence the noise of culture that so often leads us away from His voice. We're not losing the battle against sin because we're "bad Christians"; we're losing because we're unequipped. Today, I want to help equip you. Whether you're struggling with temptation, feeling spiritually numb, or just craving a deeper relationship with Jesus, this conversation is a reminder that Scripture is formative. If you've been letting the world shape your thoughts more than the Word, this episode is a gentle but honest invitation back to what matters most. We're talking about spiritual warfare, practical Bible memory tips, and the everyday miracle of letting truth change your heart from the inside out. We are so happy to have Julie Sawaya back with us on The VBAC Link Podcast today! Julie is the co-founder of Needed, a mama, and a lifelong nutrition nerd. As the most nutritionally aware of their friends, Julie and her co-founder Ryan were shocked to realize through nutrient testing that they were severely deficient in key nutrients needed for a healthy pregnancy. They dug into the research and realized they were not alone. 97% of women take a prenatal, and yet 95% have nutrient deficiencies. Most prenatal vitamins just weren't cutting it. So Julie and Ryan started Needed to create a new, higher standard for perinatal health. Together they've redesigned the products, education, and experiences women need. From their prenatals to their cognitive support to their collagen protein, our team personally uses and loves Needed products. In this encore episode, we detail the intestinal mycobiome and the mechanisms by which beneficial microbes aid in regulating opportunistic fungal species: Candida albicans. We discuss Candida overgrowth virulence and how disruptions in microbial balance, immune function, and epithelial integrity impact Candida's pathogenicity. Additionally, we discuss the role of mast cells in the lamina propria, their involvement in mucosal immunity, and how Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) can be exacerbated by fungal dysbiosis / microbial imbalances.Topics: 1. Introduction - The intestinal mycobiome and its role in intestinal health. - Regulating populations of opportunistic fungal species like Candida albicans.- Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) intro. 2. Structure of the Intestinal Barrier- The microbiome and mucus layer: microbes, mucins, antimicrobial peptides, sIgA.- The epithelial monolayer: enterocytes, goblet cells, Paneth cells, enteroendocrine cells…- Tight junction proteins and paracellular transport.- The lamina propria beneath the epithelium: immune cells and more. 3. Candida's Pathogenicity and Barrier Disruption- Exists primarily in its yeast form, regulated by microbial competition, host immune defenses, antifungal peptides. - Secretory IgA (sIgA) and immune surveillance mechanisms help regulate fungal populations. - Chronic stress, immune suppression, and dysbiosis can deplete sIgA, increasing susceptibility to Candida proliferation. - Environmental triggers such as immune suppression, microbial depletion, inflammatory cytokines.- Yeast-to-hyphal transition, deeper tissue invasion. - Secreted aspartyl proteinases (SAPs), phospholipases, candidalysin: epithelial damage.- Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) and overgrowth detection. 4. Impact of Beneficial Bacteria on Candida Overgrowth - Beneficial bacteria compete with Candida for nutrients and epithelial adhesion sites. - Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by beneficial bacteria.- Depletion of beneficial bacteria removes ecological resistance, allowing Candida to proliferate unchecked. 5. Mast Cells in the Lamina Propria and Their Role in Intestinal Immunity- Mast cell location - Upon activation, mast cells release histamine, cytokines, proteases, and more that regulate gut immune responses. - Histamine can increase gut permeability and modulate local immune activation. - Tryptase and chymase. - Pro-inflammatory cytokines. 6. Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) - Mast cell hyperactivation.- Environmental triggers, toxins, chronic infections, and stress. - Candida overgrowth and mast cell activation.- Addressing microbial imbalances and reducing the body's total microbial, chemical, and toxin burden.- A diverse microbiome. 7. Conclusion- Candida overgrowth and regulation via immune defenses and beneficial bacterial competition.- MCAS, root cause approach.Get Chloe's Book Today! We had a ridiculous amount of fun recording this episode! The main science topic was on a new pre-print study on post-exercise ketones, showing higher carb storage and lower glycemia in athletes taking them. Is it possible that high carb has a special interaction with post-exercise ketones that might be at the heart of recent performances? It's uncertain. We just take them because we like the taste of robot butt.We also had a big breakdown of the cost of high-carb fueling. Megan did calculations on the price per gram of carbohydrates of different fueling sources, from gels to drink to at-home creations. It seems like some companies are giving you amazing deals, and some... are not. We name names. And this one was full of great topics! Other topics: heat training, a promo for the Core 2 sensor, David's post-race knee pain and the uncertainty of being an athlete, total energy expenditure during and after ultras, thoughts on the Cocodona 250, Stephanie Case's remarkable performance at Ultra Trail Snowdonia, plus a Q+A on depletion runs and a how-to on uphill treadmill.May your pantry be full of carbs and your secret drawer be full of SECRET hair.We love you all! In this episode, I expose the growing "gooning" phenomenon that's destroying men's brains and sexual health. I break down how this extreme form of edging—using external visual stimulation to maintain maximum arousal for hours—fries your dopamine receptors, leads to depression, anxiety, and erectile dysfunction, and represents a disturbing shift toward isolated sexuality. Drawing from my own experiences and ancient wisdom traditions, I contrast this harmful practice with a truly beneficial approach to edging that actually increases vitality, sexual control, and overall wellbeing. I reveal exactly how to practice "relaxed edging" without porn by staying in a parasympathetic state, maintaining deep breathing, and keeping your pelvic floor relaxed—transforming masturbation from a depleting addiction into a resensitizing practice that enhances your entire life.Registration for Multi-Orgasmic Man is now OPEN!

(Conversation recorded on October 30th, 2024) Human consumption of fossil fuels - especially oil - is a topic filled with complexity, tension, and uncertainty. Understanding this issue requires accounting for a wide range of factors - from dynamic global markets and widely dispersed reserves to ongoing innovation and geopolitical conflicts. Attempting to navigate this intricate landscape is no easy task. But in the midst of these challenges, are there fundamental truths about the future of energy that experts can agree on? Today, Nate is joined by geologist and energy expert, Scott Tinker, to delve into the complexities of global oil supply and demand, the concept of peak oil, and the future possibilities of energy production and transition. Together, they explore the decline rates of oil reservoirs, the physics behind oil extraction, and the role of technology in oil production. Can nations strike a balance between energy security, geopolitical considerations, and the pursuit of a "clean" energy future? How solid are concepts like peak oil demand in a world still grappling with energy poverty? And perhaps most crucially, why is it essential to foster open dialogue and educate the public on these issues, so that we can all play an informed role in shaping our energy future? About Scott Tinker: Dr. Scott W. Tinker is a global energy explorer and educator bringing industry, government, academia, and nongovernmental organizations together to address major societal challenges in energy, the environment, and the economy. Following a 17-year career in the energy industry, Scott spent 24 years as an Endowed Professor and Director of the 250-person Bureau of Economic Geology at UT Austin. He is CEO of Tinker Energy Associates and Chairman and CEO of the nonprofit Switch Energy Alliance. With Director Harry Lynch, Scott co-produced and is featured in the award-winning documentary films Switch and Switch On, screened to millions of viewers globally. Scott is also the host of Energy Switch, an energy and climate point-counterpoint show on PBS. A lot of mothers have heard of postpartum depression, but have you heard of postpartum depletion? Many new mothers face fatigue and emotional challenges after childbirth. This can deplete the new mother, putting her at greater risk of illnesses and mental health problems. Postpartum depletion is common, and it's crucial to understand why this happens. However, it's not widely talked about. That's why we're so glad to chat on IG Live with Roxanne Woods, a Health Consultant & Coach. During this Live, we're going to discuss signs of postnatal depletion, how long it takes for a new mom to bounce back, things to do instead of stepping on the scale, and so much more. If you have ever wanted to know what all the fuss was about glyphosate, Caroline breaks it down in a way that will leave you shocked and wondering how something like this can be approved for mass market. Our bodies don't make minerals, so we have to consume them via our diet. But can we actually absorb them if our gut health isn't great? On top of that, our food often arrives to our table depleted itself! How do we correct all of this? Listen in as Caroline tells all. Feel free to reach out to me at: tarawest@westwellnessatx.com Follow me on instagram @westwellnessatxThis episode presents a profound and urgent exploration of soil depletion and its far-reaching implications for food quality and human health. Tara outlines how the agricultural practices of today, particularly the reliance on monocropping and synthetic inputs, have led to a drastic reduction in the nutrient density of our food. With compelling statistics, the discussion reveals that crops grown in nutrient-depleted soils often lack essential vitamins and minerals, leading to a cascade of health issues for consumers who rely on these foods for nutrition. The narrative delves into the systemic failures of agricultural policies that favor high-yield crops at the expense of soil health. Tara sheds light on the role of government subsidies that incentivize practices detrimental to the environment and public health. By prioritizing crops like corn and soy, which account for a substantial portion of U.S. farmland, these policies contribute to a cycle of nutrient depletion and biodiversity loss. The episode makes a strong case for the need to shift towards regenerative farming practices that not only restore soil health but also promote a more sustainable food system.Listeners are presented with actionable steps they can take to combat soil depletion and its effects on health. From supporting local regenerative farms to advocating for policy changes that prioritize sustainable agriculture, the episode empowers individuals to make informed choices about their food sources. It emphasizes the importance of education and awareness in driving change, not just for personal health, but for the well-being of future generations. Ultimately, this episode serves as a rallying cry for listeners to reconnect with the origins of their food and take an active role in supporting a healthier, more sustainable agricultural system.Takeaways: Soil depletion is a significant issue affecting the nutritional quality of our food. Intensive monocropping practices lead to nutrient depletion in the soil over time. Synthetic fertilizers may boost short-term yields but harm long-term soil health and biodiversity. Nutrient deficiencies in our food can contribute to various health issues and chronic diseases. Government subsidies often favor monocropping, worsening soil health and reducing crop diversity. Supporting regenerative farming practices can help restore soil health and improve food quality. Links referenced in this episode:ewg.orgforceofnature.com

(Recorded September 18 2024) Over past decades, abundance and peace have become the prevailing narratives in modern societies. The reality, as usual, is both more nuanced and more complex. Today, our financial and material wealth exists in parallel with declines in natural and social capital. Similarly, recent decades have caused us to become uber dependent on global ‘just-in-time' supply chains. The unexpected exploding pager incident in Lebanon earlier this week throws the durability of, and trust in global supply chains in a new light. The benefits we've enjoyed from the 'guns and butter comparative advantage' of globalized trade, might also be at risk of decline - and is suddenly something we shouldn't take for granted. In today's Frankly, Nate reflects on 7 key aspects of our socio-economic system which are in decline, with a main focus on the pager implication for globalization. What are the weakest links underpinning the status quo, and how close are they to breaking? Could it be that, just like the stability of our planet and social fabric, trust in global supply chains and globalization be areas of decline too?
