About The RenewingThere's a way the world teaches us to live—fast, anxious, disconnected. And there's another way. The Renewing is a podcast about resisting what deforms us and returning to what makes us whole. Inspired by Romans 12:2, it's a space to question the patterns we've inherited—hustle, disconnection, exhaustion—and imagine what healing might look like instead. Through honest conversations and deep listening, host Brent Levy explores the sacred, slow work of renewal—for ourselves, our communities, and the world. This EpisodeWhat happens when the faith you inherited no longer fits, yet something sacred still lingers? In this episode, Brent sits down with writer and creative Lauren Cibene, whose debut book, Tiger in a Lifeboat, explores deconstruction, travel, and the slow, surprising reconstruction that follows. Together, they discuss what it means to witness rather than persuade, how grief and unlearning are essential parts of healing, and why the red letters of Jesus keep drawing Lauren back. You'll hear about the holiness of hospitality, the healing power of presence, and the sacred invitation to trust yourself again. If you're navigating a spiritual shift, tender with your past, or just longing to see God in unexpected places, this conversation is for you.Learn more about Lauren here, check out her Substack here, and find her on Instagram here. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I dive into a powerful parable about “lifeboats” and how we often miss the help that's right in front of us. I share an old story about a guy who refuses to be rescued during a flood, because he keeps waiting for God to save him.Only to later discover that help came to him multiple times in multiple forms, but he simply refused to see it or accept it. The big lessons here?Sometimes we get so stuck in our own ways of thinking - that we miss incredible opportunities for growth, change and support. I talk about how we limit ourselves by expecting help and helpers to look a certain way - whether that's from a specific type of person, professional, program, or process. We can block our own healing by being stubborn and narrow-minded and insisting that things look a certain way.I explain how my approach as a Spiritual Mentor isn't about "fixing" people (cause' they're not broken) - but rather that I integrate tools and techniques that support your Mind, Body, and Spirit to create real, sustainable transformations. My bottom line: Stay curious and open. The universe sends help in wild and unexpected ways - through a random text, a book that falls off a shelf, or a conversation with someone you'd least expect. We don't want to get so caught up in our own stories that we miss our rescue boat.Sometimes the lifeboat is right in front of you, and all you need to do is climb aboard!KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Help can come in unexpected forms.• Be open to receiving it differently than you imagined.• Internal wisdom is just as important as external guidance.• Getting stuck in old patterns and beliefs.• Spiritual Mentorship is not about “fixing” you.• Providing new tools and shifting perspectives.• You've gotta' be “Open for Business”.• Healing is holistic – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.• We're all potential “lifeboats” for each other.• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. He's a Runyonesque brawler turned detective in Raymond Chandler's "Pearls are a Nuisance" (originally aired on CBS on April 19, 1945), and an unwitting participant in a political blackmail scheme in "Three Faces at Midnight" (originally aired on CBS on February 27, 1947). Finally, Bendix is a safecracker who discovers his estranged son is eager to go into the family business in "The Gift of Jumbo Brannigan" (originally aired on CBS on March 1, 1951).

Episode Summary In this episode of Kitchen Table Finance, Dave and Nick dive into the importance of financial "lifeboat drills"—preparing for market downturns before they happen. They discuss why good times in the market don't last forever and how you can set yourself up for success when the waters get rough. From diversification and rebalancing to cash reserves and Roth conversions, they break down practical strategies to help you stay on course, no matter what the market throws your way. Check out Dave's article on Life Boat Drills HERE (also published in TheStreet.com) https://youtu.be/hXvANzt5nXM Key Takeaways Market corrections are inevitable – Planning ahead prevents emotional, knee-jerk reactions. Diversification matters – A balanced portfolio helps you weather market ups and downs. Rebalancing is key – Regularly adjusting your investments can keep your risk in check. Cash reserves provide stability – Keeping some cash on hand can ease stress during downturns. Opportunistic moves – Roth conversions and tax-loss harvesting can turn a market dip into an advantage. Mindset is everything – Mentally preparing for tough times makes them easier to navigate. Resources & Next Steps Want to make sure your financial lifeboat is ready? Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby. The mistake that is made always runs the other way. Because the plain people are able to speak and understand, and even, in many cases, to read and write, it is assumed that they have ideas in their heads, and an appetite for more. This assumption is a folly." H.L. Mencken (1926). Nice of Hispanic males to vote for the guy who will deport all their relatives and friends and namesakes and when they run out, deport them.
