THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN with special guest ARTHUR BROWN. The eponymous ‘The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown,' which included the smash hit single ‘Fire,' was released in 1968. With Vincent Crane on keyboards, Drachen Theaker on drums and Nick Greenwood (billed as Sean Nicholas) on bass guitar, and with Brown's extraordinary vocals, it was perhaps an album that could never be repeated and it remains an exhilarating slice of psychedelia at its prime and extremity. Arthur Brown is a seminal figure in the realm of psychedelic rock. Emerging in the late 1960s, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown melded surreal stage antics with pioneering sounds, cementing their place in rock history. Brown's captivating persona, marked by his operatic voice and wild, face-painted performances (including wearing a flaming helmet during the rendering of 'Fire') became a hallmark of their shows, influencing future generations of theatrical rock artists. Their music remains a symbol of the experimental and boundary-pushing spirit of the psychedelic era, continuing to inspire with their enduring legacy and ongoing musical contributions. Arthur Brown's influence on shock, progressive rock and on electronic and heavy metal music also cannot be underestimated. It was a fascinating interview with a fascinating man that included one of Arthur's famous helmets being set alight on the CAT Club stage during the video screening of the legendary 1968 Top of the Pops performance of ‘Fire!' The gathering culminated with a stunning live performance with Arthur singing ‘I Put A Spell On You' along to the original backing track ripped from the featured album. JASON BARNARD did an admirable job in the interviewer's chair it must be said. This event took place on 24th October 2024 in the Pigeon Loft at The Robin Hood, Pontefract, West Yorkshire. To find out more about the CAT Club please visit: www.thecatclub.co.uk Happy Trails.

Investment trusts occupy an interesting niche in the UK market. They are listed companies whose business is to own shares in other companies, or to own other assets. On this week's episode of Merryn Talks Money, one of Britain's top experts on the matter—Nick Greenwood, who co-manages the MIGO opportunities trust at Asset Value Investors—joins us to explain why they are a good buy right now. There are lots of reasons why investment trusts swing to discounts, and spotting those that might soon tighten can significantly boost shareholder returns. That's the business of Miton Global Opportunities (MIGO), which looks to own trusts with potential for a narrowing discount as well as net asset value growth. In this interview, manager Nick Greenwood tells Leonora Walters how he identifies trusts that might soon re-rate, where he sees the best value among investment trusts currently and how investment trusts' expansion in alternative assets has boosted the opportunity for his fund. KHAN's bio reads like a who's who of former and future celebs from EGG, GONG, HATFIELD AND THE NORTH and NATIONAL HEALTH. The initial line-up of this early 70's Canterbury outfit consisted of keyboard player Dave Stewart, guitarist Steve HILLAGE, bassist Nick Greenwood and drummer Pip PYLE. Before recording their one and only album, Pyle moved on to GONG and was replaced by Eric Peachy (ex-DR. K's BLUES BAND). The group disbanded after the release of the album in 1972. "Space Shanty" is made up of six ambitious tracks composed almost entirely by Hillage. All four musicians are in fine form but the album is particularly dominated by Hillage's spacey/bluesy guitar and Stewart's effervescent Hammond play. Although much of the material is based on a repetitive verse/chorus/verse cycle and has recurrent musical themes, the band frequently breaks out into extended instrumental freak outs, either soloing or engaging in formidable guitar/organ interplay. This album is a fine sample of early Canterbury/bluesy space rock. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The trust's managers, Nick Greenwood and Charlotte Cuthbertson, explain how to put together a portfolio of investment trusts and how they find the best opportunities. They also profile some recent additions they made to Miton Global Opportunities and highlight some areas where investment trusts could offer good opportunities. The Investment trust sector has changed a lot over the past 20 years, as traditional buyers in wealth management firms retreat and a new generation of more sophisticated DIY investors look to exploit the advantages of closed-end funds. In the latest Money Makers podcast, Nick Greenwood, manager of Miton Global Opportunities, a specialist investment trust fund, discusses these changes with Money Makers editor Jonathan Davis and highlights the themes and special situations that have been driving his trust’s own strong recent performance.
This gorgeous 1964 film is everything people say it is, and makes you wonder sometimes whether its director and writer, Jacques Demy, was too good for this world. Let's also hear it for Michel Legrand, who wrote the score. What I wish to eyeball, and what this podcast is about, is its vision of romance, for "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" is about first love, lost love, best love, et enfin, true love. The hero's "Je crois que tu peux partir" ("It's time for you to go.") is so wonderfully masculine, and faithful, and cognizant but 'he's not buying', that I truly wish every woman in the world who has lost faith in men could see this movie. My podcast is about True Love. It is dedicated to Nick Greenwood.
