This week's pick is the 1977 film Nurse Sherri. Taking place on a scant few poorly lit sets, this possession horror movie offers wooden acting, "comedy", and ugly aesthetics.
*I apologize - the initial version of this episode had an audio bug. It's been fixed! Please re-download. This week, we visit the works of Al Adamson, known for his cheap, drive-in fare. A mysterious cult leader dies, then possesses Nurse Sherri, forcing her to avenge his death. Meanwhile, multiple characters search for his body, determined to destroy him and free Sherri from his grasp. On this episode: inter-office romances, wearing business suits in the desert, a three week long resurrection attempt, car chases, a magical charm bracelet, voodoo practicing grandmothers, and condemnation to a 70s insane asylum.
Jill Jacobson, Vanessa from Star Trek TNG "The Royale" and Aroya from Star Trek DS9 "Broken Link" Trek Untold welcomes the ravishing Jill Jacobson to the podcast, who you may remember as the clueless Vanessa from the season 2 TNG episode "The Royale" and the DS9 season four finale "Broken Link" as Aroya, the owner of the Celestial Café on the promenade who gets a date with Odo. Jill has the craziest audition story ever of how she got her role on TNG, and tales of working with veteran actor Noble Willingham, trying to keep a straight face around Brent Spiner, and stories with Jonathan Frakes and Michael Dorn. Then it's onto DS9, her first time wearing prosthetics and the original long-term plans for her character. Plus, growing up in Texas and discovering acting, her first movie role alongside Gary Lockwood and Carol Lynley, becoming "Nurse Sherri" in the Al Adamson directed cult-classic film that Quentin Tarantino has called one of his favorite movies, what she learned about comedy from Bob Newhart, working with Aubrey Meadows on the short-lived "Uncle Buck" TV show, making risky choices with Adrian Brody, confessing to Scott Bakula and dancing with Russ Tamblyn in "Quantum Leap," and how Jill helped a young Jonathan Frakes get one of his earliest TV acting gigs in a story that even Cmdr. Brian Saur of Pure Cinema Podcast (and Just the Discs and Rupert Pupkin Speaks) joins us to take out Danny Peary’s trash—specifically, the movies rated “T” (for Trash) by our beloved author in his 1986 masterwork, GUIDE FOR THE FILM FANATIC. We also focus on SATAN’S SADISTS (1969) and NURSE SHERRI (1978), in honor of yet another landmark totem for cult movie mavens, Severin Films’ recent, impossibly great box set, AL ADAMSON: THE MASTERPIECE COLLECTION.

Cort pulls the Movie Stack Jenga pick this week with the Al Adamson film Nurse Sherri. Matt is devastated to learn the version he watched had most of the nudity and sex scenes removed and a sub plot placed in its stead. Cort sadistically goes through the sex scenes when they would have been in the film to taunt Matt. A good time is had by all, except Matt who didn’t get to see breasts.
