A Note from James:Mark Pincus is one of the true OGs of the internet. You probably know him as the founder of Zynga, the company behind FarmVille, Zynga Poker, and Words With Friends. Zynga was eventually acquired by Take-Two in a transaction valued at approximately $12.7 billion. Before Zynga, Mark started Tribe, one of the first social networks—before MySpace and Facebook. He has spent more than 25 years building, failing, and studying what gets millions of people to click, play, share, and come back. His new book, Life at the Speed of Play, inspired me to start coming up with new business ideas while we were still recording. What I really love is how Mark teaches people to copy like a master without looking like a copycat. He has a framework called “Proven–Better–New.” Start with something that has already been proven. Make it obviously better. Then isolate the new idea you want to test. It's one of the best systems I've heard for creating products people actually want.We talk about the early days of Facebook and MySpace, the failure of Tribe, the gaming industry, consumer psychology, AI coding, and how agents could eventually network and work for us while we're doing something else.I loved talking with Mark. I was still thinking about this conversation afterward—and I'm literally building businesses based on what I learned. His new book is called Life at the Speed of Play. Listen to this episode, and then read the book.Episode Description:Most founders begin with an idea and then spend months—or years—trying to prove that people want it. Mark Pincus thinks that process is backward. At Zynga, Mark's teams built “failure machines”: simple systems that allowed them to test hundreds of concepts before writing the code. They put unfinished ideas in front of real users, watched what people clicked, and refused to build anything until the demand was obvious. The objective wasn't to avoid failure. It was to make failure fast, cheap, and useful.Mark explains the framework behind that process: Proven–Better–New. First, study an existing success down to every screen, click, and design decision. Then identify one improvement that current users would immediately recognize as better. Only after that should a team add the unproven idea—the part most likely to fail.James and Mark also examine the problems facing today's consumer entrepreneurs. AI has made software easier to build, but distribution has become harder. People aren't searching for new apps, established platforms restrict organic growth, and algorithmic reach isn't the same as users actively sharing something with friends.Mark uses the failure of his early social network, Tribe, to explain why virality is not enough. Tribe grew quickly but lacked retention and trust. He ignored the communities users loved because they didn't match the business model he had already chosen. That painful mistake became the foundation for much of his later product philosophy. The conversation ends with Mark's current experiments: personal AI agents modeled after members of his family, a proposed work network built specifically for agents, an enterprise AI company called Hivemind, and the difficult decision to end a four-year passion project without abandoning the instinct behind it.This is a practical conversation about testing ideas, separating instinct from ego, learning from the past, and killing the wrong product before it consumes the right opportunity. What You'll Learn:How to build a failure machine: Test headlines, offers, videos, and fake doors before investing in a finished product. How to apply Proven–Better–New: Begin with a proven behavior, make one unmistakable improvement, and isolate the risky innovation. Why distribution is now harder than development: AI can generate a prototype quickly, but it cannot guarantee attention, trust, or adoption. Why Tribe failed despite rapid growth: Virality without retention, safety, and alignment with user behavior does not create a lasting network. How to copy without becoming a copycat: Study successful products at the pixel level, preserve what works, and innovate only where it matters. When to abandon an idea: Preserve the underlying instinct, but stop funding the particular expression of it when the evidence turns against you.How AI agents may change networking: Agents could eventually search for opportunities, exchange work, build reputations, and bring useful leads back to their users.Timestamped Chapters: [02:00] Finding the “OMFG” Moment [02:58] A Note from James [05:00] Build a Failure Machine Before Building a Product [06:25] Testing Demand With Fake Doors and Broken Links [08:08] Writing Copy That People Actually Notice [10:52] Test More Ideas in a Week Than the Industry Tests in a Year [11:53] Why Neglected Products Become Innovation Labs [13:26] How Mobile Apps Slowed Product Experimentation [15:09] Can AI Bring Rapid Testing Back? Okay, family photographer, I need you to be honest with yourself for a second: when was the last time you checked your website for broken links? Not just a quick glance at your homepage. I mean, actually going through and making sure every single link works. Because I just discovered that my own website had over 166 sessions landing on a "page not found" error, and I'm spilling the tea on all of it in this episode. Whether you watch on YouTube or listen on your favorite podcast player, stick around because I'm walking you through why broken links matter, showing you a completely free tool to find yours, and doing a live demo of how I'm fixing mine in real time. Here's the backstory: I've spent the last four years separating my photography website from my systems and workflow education website. I'm a solo business owner doing it all myself, and I believe in slow, sustainable growth (and I'm willing to put in the work)! But when I checked Google Analytics and saw that "page not found" was one of my top three most visited pages? Yeah, I spiraled for about five minutes. Then I made a plan. Because that's what we do around here. What you'll learn in this episodeWhy broken links are one of the sneakiest things quietly undoing all of your SEO workHow broken links leak your link equity (that trail of trust between your pages)The completely free tool I'm using right now to find every broken link on my websiteAnd so much more!Resources & Links Mentioned In This Episode▸ Read the full blog post that goes with this episode (that way, you get all the links mentioned): https://systemsandworkflowmagic.com/the-free-tool-im-using-to-find-every-broken-link-on-my-photography-website/▸ The Family Photographer's Marketing Society: https://systemsandworkflowmagic.com/the-family-photographers-marketing-society▸ Grab the FREE 2026 Family Photographers Marketing Trends Report: https://systemsandworkflowmagic.com/family-photography-marketing-trends▸ Apply HERE to work with me to be your 1:1 marketer for your family photography business!Connect with Me (Dolly DeLong Education)

It focuses on making a website faster, easier to crawl for search engine bots, and more understandable for search engines. This includes optimizing website speed, mobile-friendliness, site structure, and ensuring there are no broken links or crawl errors. Why is technical SEO important for my website in 2026?Technical SEO is crucial for your website's success in 2026 because it directly impacts your search engine rankings and user experience. With the increasing competition online, having a technically sound website is no longer a niche specialization but a fundamental requirement. A well-optimized website will have better visibility on search engines, leading to more organic traffic, higher user engagement, and ultimately, more conversions. What are Core Web Vitals?Core Web Vitals are a set of specific factors that Google considers important in a webpage's overall user experience. They consist of three main metrics: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), which measures loading performance; First Input Delay (FID), which measures interactivity; and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), which measures visual stability. Websites that meet Core Web Vitals standards can experience a significant increase in user engagement. Read more about Technical SEO from Google DocumentationHow does mobile optimization affect SEO?With over 60% of global website traffic coming from mobile devices, mobile optimization is a critical factor for SEO. Search engines like Google prioritize mobile-friendly websites in their rankings. A website that is optimized for mobile will provide a better user experience for mobile users, leading to higher engagement, lower bounce rates, and a greater likelihood of ranking on the first page of search results.Where can I find the best technical SEO courses? There are numerous free and paid technical SEO courses available online. Some popular platforms for finding high-quality courses include Coursera, Udemy, and the Google Digital Garage. It's recommended to look for courses that are up-to-date with the latest SEO trends and best practices for 2026.Book SEO Services | Quick Links for Social Business>> Book SEO Services with Favour Obasi-ike>> Visit Work and PLAY Entertainment website to learn about our digital marketing services>> Join our exclusive SEO Marketing community>> Read SEO Articles>> Subscribe to the We Don't PLAY Podcast>> Purchase Flaev Beatz Beats Online>> Favour Obasi-ike Quick LinksSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Real Life Runners I Tying Running and Health into a Family-Centered Life
In this episode, we draw an analogy between encountering a '404 Page Not Found' error on the web and hitting a plateau or decline in one's training plan, particularly for runners over 40. We discuss the changes in physiology and life circumstances that necessitate a new training approach, including changes in hormonal levels, stress management, and adjustments in workouts to reflect current fitness capabilities. We emphasize the importance of accepting these changes not as failures but as opportunities to redirect training strategies. The episode also highlights the mental shift from focusing on becoming thin to becoming strong, the need for proper nutrition, recovery, and addressing the stories we tell ourselves about our abilities and future potential. Encourage listeners to identify the 'broken links' in their training and find new paths forward.01:44 The Frustration of Broken Links and Training Plans02:32 Understanding the 404 Moment in Training05:48 Adapting to Physiological and Life Changes10:09 The Importance of Acceptance and Adaptation15:42 Case Study: Overcoming Training Plateaus20:44 The Role of Plateaus in Training25:19 Training with the Right Mentality26:04 The Importance of Recovery27:02 Balancing Intensity and Recovery29:27 Shifting Focus: From Thin to Strong36:50 The Power of Stories We Tell Ourselves37:28 Embracing New Training Methods Thanks for Listening!!Be sure to hit FOLLOW on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your favorite podcast player Leave a review on Apple Podcasts. Matthew (he/him) and Jo (she/they) repair the “Broken Link” as we join Odo on his journey to the Founders home world. We chronicle recreational crimes the DS9 crew has carried out while still being in Starfleet, we compare representation as tokenism in Star Trek and Marvel vs representation as experience in books, films and other #OwnVoices media and we observe how this show suggests a genocide on the founders at the same time as the show X-Men 97 portrays a genocide while our Twitter feeds are full of images from Gaza and protests around the country. Matthew wonders why Garak is in this episode and Jo somehow manages in an episode about Odo to speculate about the O'Brien polycule. As always, be prepared that spoilers may be lurking around every corner just like Garak on Empok Nor.Subscribe for weekly recaps of Star Trek Deep Space Nine, follow us online at @TerokNoir on Twitter for silly memes and polls and contact us by e-mail at teroknoirpod@gmail.com
