George loves Home Alone. It is the first movie we have found for which he had childhood nostalgia. So we revisited it so he could see the movie through the eyes of a movie watcher. Will it be better? Will it be worse? Will he find new depth in old characters? Tune in to find out. Then we have to address the elephant in the room... Home Alone is a ripoff of a French movie from the year before. Or at least, that is what the rumor mill would indicate. Is it really a simple ripoff? Are we dealing with more a "Halloween borrowing scenes from a bunch of gialli" situation? Or is the internet awash with a bunch of uninspired copycat baloney? We dive deep into Home Alone and Deadly Games to find out! Deadly Games (AKA Dial Code Santa Claus, AKA 36-15 Code Père Noël, AKA Game Over, AKA Tödliche Nacht) is currently available to stream on Shudder and was recently received on a 4k UHD disc by Vinegar Syndrome. It is totally worth watching and about halfway through the episode we'll give you a "stop here before you watch" warning. But the mystery of Home Alone goes deeper than Deadly Games... And we have to end this episode on a cliffhanger which will pay off in a special release this Friday (December 17) when we discuss a second influential movie (which is way more bananas than either Home Alone or Deadly Games.) So join us today and join us again on Friday!   And after the episode, check out the Extra Credit Discussion group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/remedialfilmpod   Did you know we are now on YouTube? Holiday Horrors returns for 2021!   John Hudson, Troy Guinn and I discuss the amazing French Christmas film DIAL CODE SANTA CLAUS (1989). Although we had never even heard of this movie until Vinegar Syndrome released it on disc last year it has become a fast favorite for all three of us. It's an amalgam of horror, action and coming of age stories that manages to hit nearly every emotional beat that it targets. On Christmas Eve, ten-year-old Thomas is determined to get evidence of Santa's existence so he sets up his high-tech equipment to videotape him on his rounds. Unfortunately, the lad has accidentally gained the attention of a crazed man who dresses himself as the jolly old elf and makes the little boy the object of his homicidal curiosity. With his mother working late it is up to Thomas alone to protect his aged grandfather and stop the deadly St. Nick from killing all through the house. Who will survive? Simultaneously beautiful to look at and tensely suspenseful DIAL CODE SANTA CLAUS is a worthy addition to the list of scary stories centered around the year end holidays. Filled with Christmas atmosphere and luminous visuals it checks all the boxes for candy colored feel-good sentiment but then drops its likable characters into a vicious home invasion scenario. The killer Santa's motivations are never revealed which makes his actions all the more terrifying and unpredictable. And although this film plays out a story similar to 1990's HOME ALONE, there are real consequences to violence in this movie and truly deadly stakes if Thomas fails to defeat his nearly silent adversary.   We talk about the film's production taking note of the combination of real locations and elaborate stage work. The director's ability to seamlessly meld the real and unreal allows the film to achieve some surprising moments and it's not a shock to learn he went on to do high quality work in Hollywood. We have a good time discussing this great little movie with only a few short tangents about illegal VHS tape dubbing along the way. Oh! And at one point we are interrupted by a stack of my new Blu-Rays tumbling over into my chair. Sorry. I've been too busy to put them away.   The show winds down with an email from a fan of the show and a text from another co-host. They're trying to wear me down, folks! If you have any comments or suggestions thebloodypit@gmail.com is the address. Thank you for listening!

The three of us have a discussion about great gifts for horror fans. There is also a review of a movie that was started and completed in 1984 and just released this year. We talk about its history and how well it holds up.It is tough getting Christmas presents for people. Even when you know what a person is into, there can be a lot to choose from. We wanted to make things easier for getting gifts for the horror fans in your life. What indie film company can you get some of the best genre films from? Which board games would be best?  What is the best last minute gift?New York Ninja is an interesting film. Shot and completed during the cinematic ninja fad of the 1980s. However, it was not released until this year. We talk about why the movie did not come out and how it would have fared if it had. We also talk about Vinegar Syndrome's restoration of the film. When there is a roller skating ninja, it also begs the biggest question: was this made to be intentionally bad?Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. George has never seen any Kung Fu movies... except for Kung Fu Panda. He was not ready for the awesomeness of Vinegar Syndrome Pictures' first release: New York Ninja. Luckily, Vinegar Syndrome provided us with a sneak peak at the upcoming film. And Travis and Dan stepped up to show George what magic was waiting for him in the Big Apple of the 1980s.   New York Ninja was shot in 1984, in guerilla fashion around New York, by director John Liu (In the Claws of the CIA, Dragon Blood). But it was thought to be lost to time until it was rescued by the restoration wizards at Vinegar Syndrome. Director Kurtis Spieler compiled the nearly 30 year old footage into a streamlined story. And with the help of producers including Brad Henderson, also of Vinegar Syndrome, he compiled a cast of voice actors from the exploitation and B-Movie Hall of Fame (not a real place, but it should be).    Included on the upcoming Blu-Ray release is an excellent documentary look at the process of shooting a guerilla Kung Fu project on Staten Island and around New York in the 80s. But the behind the scenes feature goes on to explain the process of creating a new movie out of the old footage. The featurette is a must-watch, and very well may be worth the price of admission!   Will George's new drinking game catch on with our listeners... (we hope not!) Will Travis ever learn to love a movie with a redubbed audio track? (don't hold your breath!) Did Dan just say "Unrelenting Crotch Hell" in... context? (He did!)   Come for the Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja: The Movie vibes, and stay for the Beat-It aesthetics and Pink Floyd sexy scenes. New York Ninja is one to seek out!   Coming November 1st, 2021, from Vinegar Syndrome Pictures. Available at www.vinegarsyndrome.com   *Update* The review states that the film will be released on UHD, however a Facebook post from Vinegar Syndrome states that it will be in standard Blu-ray only. Don't let that dampen your excitement. This movie is still wonderful in 1080p!   Still need a little convincing? Here's the trailer! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1wMt3fgOyM   And after the episode, check out the Extra Credit Discussion group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/remedialfilmpod   Did you know we are now on YouTube? Buried into oblivion was this bizarre, horror comedy starring Denise Richards and Paul Walker called Tammy and the T-Rex. Originally marketed as a light hearted and stupid family film, Tammy and the T-Rex lost all it's gory, violent, tongue-in-cheek charm and disappeared from public awareness for almost two decades. Vinegar Syndrome with help of a gory Italian cut of the film, restored Tammy (or Tanny?) to it's former glory as a B-level horror comedy inspired by the all but brief access to an animatronic T-Rex and presumably drugs. In this episode of Rewind Review, Wes and Spencer look at the original vision of Tammy and the T-Rex

Happy Spooky Season, everyone! In the spirit of being more treat than trick, we're releasing this bonus episode to everyone! And boy, do we have a treat for you: we're discussing the previously-lost possession film SEX DEMON. Truly more interesting than THE EXORCIST—it knows when to actually be funny and scary—and building off the suppressed demonic classic ABBY, SEX DEMON has not been seen for forty years. That is, until now: our host Evan came across this holy grail in the middle of sourcing and preserving dozens of other gay adult classics. Without spoiling this treasure, we discuss the film's precocious director, his many lives in entertainment, and the film's interesting take on sexual possession and May-September romance. Now, as people return to the theaters, we're finding places to screen SEX DEMON. If you live in New York City or L.A., great news: we have screenings in your cities at the end of the month! Tune in to see where you can find this gay horror thriller. PLUS: We have excerpts from our interview with Vinegar Syndrome co-founder Joe Rubin. Joe talked with us about the challenges of preserving adult films, the differences in vintage hetero and all-male film, and the need to truly support the archival work you enjoy. None of this would be possible—finding rare films, preserving and digitizing prints, heavy research and consistent production—without your support. If you like our work and want to keep seeing it—as well as get amazing perks like these bonus episodes—please join our Patreon, and please spread the word. (And thanks to all of you who already do.)
