Bernie is impressed with Zack Thompson and Packy Naughton in the Cardinals bullpen early on. Bernie puts in his two cents on the Volpe vs Walker debate.
Bernie examines the Cardinals bullpen after seeing mixed results over the season's first three games. Bernie points out that while pitchers like Drew VerHagen and Packy Naughton have impressed, there's still a need for the team to generate more strikeouts.
Bernie reacts to the Cardinals setting their Opening Day roster on Saturday. Bernie breaks down why Packy Naughton got the nod as the second lefty in the bullpen behind Zack Thompson. He also questions the move to move forward with Jordan Walker opening the season with the major league club.
Every week, two of the Best Fans in Baseball (TM) bring you all the news and analysis you need about the St. Louis Cardinals. So Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and David (@iPopEditor) were wrong earlier in the spring as Jordan Walker made the Opening Day roster. Is it good that he struggled late in camp and what do we expect from him? Lots of other interesting decisions as well, such as Packy Naughton over Genesis Cabrera and, apparently, Dylan Carlson over Juan Yepez, though the latter was something that wasn't really on the radar. Plenty of roster talk and then the guys talk about what they really like about Opening Day in St. Louis!

Bernie takes a look at the Cardinals' offseason as he tries to take a realist's approach to analyzing the roster. Bernie mentions how he's happy with the team's position player corps, but has concerns about the pitching staff. He specifically targets the lack of a proven left-handed reliever as the likes of Packy Naughton, JoJo Romero and Genesis Cabrera battle for spots.
Bernie chats with 590 The Fan and Bally Sports Midwest Blues insider Andy Strickland. Andy talks about the chances for Jake Neighbours to make the opening night roster and why Josh Leivo, who's in camp on a professional tryout, could slot in on the third line. Andy points out why Ivan Barbashev is the biggest question mark for him on this team after a career offensive year. Bernie also reacts to the news that Nolan Gorman and Packy Naughton will make the postseason roster.
After spending 3 seasons with Hokieball, Packy Naughton was drafted in the 9th round of the 2017 MLB Draft to the Cincinnati Reds. He is now a reliever for the St Louis Cardinals and is on pace to have a career year. Pat and Bill catch up with him on his MLB journey and a bevy of other topics.
Nate & Ben discuss Packy Naughton, the all stars and scrubs, participating in all star voting, the Cardinals all stars, whether the all star game is good, competing in a home run derby, the mid-season slump and tiny surge, the upcoming trade deadline, and much much more!

Despite a Los Angeles Dodger comeback, the St. Louis Cardinals prevailed victorious yesterday by the final of 7-6. Jordan Hicks was used as the opener, who gave way to Johan Oviedo, then scheduled starter Matthew Liberatore came in the game in the fourth inning. St. Louis won, does this make that move a successful one? Should the Cardinals implement this strategy again? What was the reasoning behind it?Also, a happy birthday shoutout to Yadier Molina. He could be returning around the trade deadline and despite what his offensive production has been in 2022, that should be a positive for a team searching for their leader.Packy Naughton gets out of an unimaginable jam to save the game yesterday, earning more trust from Marmol and company. It's been 84 years.... Or at least it felt like it since the last Redbird winner. Brenden Schaeffer discusses the first Cardinals win in a while, and it comes thanks to some savvy efforts by Dylan Carlson and Packy Naughton. How concerned, though, should we be about the offensive struggles for this team? And is the rotation still a scary thought heading into a new homestand? This show has a little bit of everything, as we even get into a couple trade targets--including one who would make a dynamite lead-off hitter. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bschaeffer12/message

Packy Naughton, Andre Pallante and Adam Wainwright have all led the charge in the first two games between the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres. Similar to last year's team, when you pitch, you win! Outside of a Giovanny Gallegos bad outing and Ryan Helsley giving up his first earned run, the bullpen has also been solid in the first two games. Offensively, it's hard not to talk about Paul Goldschmidt and his torrid month, you can live with the Gorman errors + strikeouts (so far) and Pujols plays hero on Tuesday. A sweep will be tough with Darvish on the mound and limited pitchers available, so can the Cards get it done?WANT MORE DAILY ST.
