Welcome to Episode 140 of Tablesetters. Devin is joined by Chris Welsh, Host and Analyst for FantasyPros and BettingPros, co-owner of In This League, and the creator of The Prospect One Podcast. With fantasy baseball draft season fully underway, this conversation is about stripping things back to what actually matters. Chris joins the show to discuss how he's approaching drafts in 2026, how preparation has changed in an era of constant information, and where fantasy players can still gain real advantages despite ADP, rankings, and projections being more accessible than ever. The episode opens with Chris reflecting on a recent trip to New Orleans before pivoting into where he's at right now in draft season—whether he's already drafting in serious leagues or still focused on mocks, and what those high-stakes leagues actually look like in terms of format, depth, and risk tolerance. From there, the discussion moves into player evaluation and draft dynamics. We start with regression candidates, using Cal Raleigh as a focal point at catcher—how much regression to expect, how positional value factors into his lofty NFBC ADP, and whether taking a catcher that early is a bet worth making. Chris also shares additional players he believes may be overdrafted relative to expectation. We then dig into Ben Rice, his eye-popping underlying metrics, and how roster construction—specifically the Yankees' decision to re-sign Paul Goldschmidt—could impact Rice's fantasy value and playing time outlook in 2026. The conversation expands to players who have changed teams and whether those moves meaningfully raise their fantasy ceilings. From there, Devin and Chris tackle the downside of ADP itself—how it can make drafts feel rigid and formulaic—and identify the players Chris is willing to reach for anyway, trusting conviction over consensus. On the flip side, Chris revisits the idea of “disappointment” in fantasy terms—players whose production may not justify where they're being drafted. We also touch on Nick Kurtz's aggressive ADP and whether the price tag makes sense. Pitching strategy becomes the next focus, including how the Dodgers handle their arms, whether that caps fantasy value, and why Chris is hesitant to invest early picks in elite pitchers like Tarik Skubal, Paul Skenes, and Garrett Crochet despite their upside. Later, Chris explains why the term “sleeper” has become harder to define in modern fantasy baseball, offers his favorite sleeper for the season, and highlights his favorite “if he stays healthy” player to target. We close with a deeper look at Geraldo Perdomo's puzzling ADP despite elite underlying production, a broader discussion of shortstop as one of the deepest positions in fantasy, keeper-league strategy surrounding Konnor Griffin, and a rapid-fire round of Would You Rather draft decisions featuring players with nearly identical NFBC ADPs. Fantasy Baseball Live – February 8, 2026 @ 1 pm ETSegment 1 – News and Notes1.The Reds sign Eugenio Suarez for a one-year, $15 million contract. He mostly played third base last season, but with future HOFer Ke'Bryan Hayes there, I guess he'll be the full-time DH.a.Thoughts?b.In looking at their lineup, Spencer Steer or Sal Stewart is going to lose playing time. Steer is 28 and is one year removed from a 20-20 season, but with serious concerns about how much he'll hit, and Sal Stewart is a rookie, although he looked great in his debut last season. How does this shake out?2.The Red Sox sign Isiah Kiner-Falefa to a one-year, $6 million contract. Is this just depth or is this a message that Marcelo Mayer needs to hit?a.What happened to Kristian Campbell?3.The Padres sign Miguel Andujar for $1.5 million, and in looking at their roster. Is he going to get enough at-bats at DH to make him a sneaky late-round grab? He's an afterthought in drafts at an ADP of 601.4.The Yankees re-sign Paul Goldschmidt, and in reading details of the signing, the Yankees were not the only suitor. He's far from the player he was, but should I be worried that he could steal at-bats away from Ben Rice?a.If so, do you discount Rice at the draft table?5.Finally, the Tigers had an eventful and expensive week. First they lost their arbitration hearing with Skubal, which cost of them $32 million and they signed Framber Valdez to a big three-year deal.a.I guess if there were worries about them moving Skubal, that appears to be unlikely. Thoughts on Tigers this season?Segment 2 – Fantasy Questions of the AL WestThe Athletics1.Denzel Clarke looks like he will get the first shot at center field. Do you like Clarke or Colby Thomas to get the bulk of the at-bats?a.Does it even matter?2.Outside of Nick Kurtz, which two Athletics are you most interested in rostering?3.We now have data on the first year at Sutter Park in Sacremento and it ranked as the second best ballpark to hit in after Coors Field.a.Luis Severino had a 3.02 ERA away from Sutter and a whopping 6.01 ERA at home. I grabbed him in the 31st round of my NFBC Draft Champions League and was going to do the Home/Away game. Dumb idea?b.The ballpark factor does not bode well for young rookies like Luis Morales and Gage Jump. Thoughts?4.Who gets the saves for A's?5.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)Houston Astros1.After a great spring training, Cam Smith wasn't very good. In 134 games, he hit nine home runs and stole eight bases while hitting .236. In Spring Training, he hit .342 with four home runs and 15 games. a.Is this a reminder to ignore spring training stats?b.Also, do you see 2026 as a growth year for Smith? If so, could he become a 15+ home run guy with 10+ stolen bases?2.Yordan Alvarez – Over/Under 400 at-bats?3.Stat line for Tatsuya Imai – IP, K's, ERA and wins – 165, 180K, 3.50 ERA, 10 wins4.Christian Javier was a horse, and then 2024 came, and he had TJS. He struggled in his returns, but the fastball was back and the change-up was as good as ever. He doesn't throw particularly hard, but his xERA was 3.36 last season.a.Any interest?5.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)Los Angeles Angels1.Nolan Schanuel – Over/Under 15 home runs?a.Everyone thought he would hit, and while he makes great contact, his low hard-hit rate drives his BABIP down, and he hit .264 with a .263 xBA. How can you start this guy at first base?2.After Zach Neto and Jo Adel, give me two players you are interested in drafting from the Angels and why.3.Reid Detmers' stat line for 2026 – IP, Ks, ERAa.Detmers or Alek Manoah – who would you rather roster?4.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)Seattle Mariners1.Cal Raleigh will hit closer to 40 home runs or 60 home runs in 2026.2.Dominic Canzone or Victor Robles – Who would you rather roster and why?3.Which one of Colt Emerson or Kade Anderson do we see in 2026? Or, do we see both?a.I know you're not a big Emerson fan, but I think he's going to be very good when he gets up – hint, I think we see him in the first half4.I can't think of a good pitching question – but, WOW, what a staff?5.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)Texas Rangers1.Wyatt Langford – 2026 stat line – HR, SB, Runs, RBIs, and BA2.It's hard to say that Evan Carter is a bust, but so far, he's been a disappointment. He's still going as a number five outfielder – pick #71. Are you going to be one of those managers?3.I don't believe we talked about Josh Jung much last season or even when we did your third base rankings. He actually was somewhat healthy last season – 131 games, but hit 14 home runs and a SLG of .390. What happened?a.Is he of interest to you in upcoming drafts?4.Are you ready to trust Jack Leiter?5.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)

Gilbert talks about the team trading for Nolan Arenado, what it means for the young players, and if Paul Goldschmidt come to Arizona.
BT & Sal dive into a heated debate on which New York team has the better chance of winning the next World Series, with Sal declaring it's the Yankees "by a long shot." They argue the Yankees' current roster is superior, their pitching is "superior," and their path in the American League is easier without a juggernaut like the Dodgers blocking the way—a major hurdle for the Mets in the NL. The discussion highlights the Yankees' frustratingly quiet offseason, with Cashman focusing on three Rule 5 picks after 14 years, while Mets rumors swirl around Paul Goldschmidt ("washed up Yankee") and a potential pursuit of former Yankees first-rounder Willson Contreras to replace the departed Alonso. The hosts conclude the Yankees are sadly in a much better position "right now," despite an unexciting winter.
Bernie breaks down Lane Kiffin and SEC coaching turmoil, Eli Drinkwitz staying at Mizzou, and a full Iron Bowl recap. He also dives into College Football Playoff debates and the latest Cardinals trade rumors, Brendan Donovan, Lars Nootbaar, Alec Burleson, Nolan Arenado, and Paul Goldschmidt, along with St. Louis' roster and payroll strategy.
BT & Sal ignite the debate over Mets slugger Pete Alonso after Josh Naylor's reported five-year deal with the Mariners, with Sal arguing the move sets a high floor for Pete's contract—likely six years for $180M—which Sal thinks the Mets shouldn't pay due to Pete's limited utility outside of power. They debate if Naylor's versatility makes him a better player than Pete for team building. The discussion shifts to the Giants' embarrassing two-and-nine season: BT rips into the notion that the team is "competitive," and Sal criticizes Jalin Hyatt for slowing down on his route to seal the loss against the Packers. They also blast the lack of accountability surrounding Abdul Carter's repeated tardiness. Finally, they briefly touch on John Cena's last match at MSG and the disgusting on-field conduct of Jamar Chase. The segment ends with Sal screaming down a caller who suggests Paul Goldschmidt as a replacement for Alonso.
Luke and Jody Jackson discuss what the Arizona Cardinals would trade for if they were to make a trade and if the Arizona Diamondbacks would want Paul Goldschmidt back.

BT and Sal debated the Yankees' crucial Game 3 lineup, with the discussion heating up around whether Giancarlo Stanton should be the designated hitter. Sal argued that even with Stanton's inconsistencies, his potential to smash a home run against a lefty starter is too valuable to bench, preferring to "go down with big G swinging." BT, however, suggested the radical idea of benching Stanton entirely to utilize Paul Goldschmidt against the lefty starter for better defense and a more favorable matchup, while keeping the hot-hitting Austin Wells and Ben Rice in the lineup. The hosts agreed that Boone has a tough, potentially explosive, decision regarding who sits among Stanton, Goldschmidt, Rice, and Wells.
St. Louis “missed connections” get the spotlight — from the Cardinals game (because nothing says romance like a Goldschmidt jersey and zero courage), to the Schnucks pasta sauce aisle (true love bottled in Rao's), Tower Grove dog playdates (dogs have more game than people), and even a Central West End coffee shop spill. It's awkward romance, funny love stories, and meet-cutes gone wrong — basically a real-life rom-com, minus the happy ending. If you like comedy videos, sarcastic humor, and hilarious fails, you've found your place with The Rizzuto Show. The Goldschmidt Ghoster (00:00:13) He had a Paul Goldschmidt jersey, a Cards hat pulled low, and the courage to… say nothing. She had a great smile and probably actual game knowledge. Instead of a number, he walked away with regret. Classic Busch Stadium love story. The Sauce Boss at Schnucks (00:01:18) Nothing says romance like standing helpless in the pasta aisle, crying over marinara. Enter: Mystery Hoodie Girl, handing out Rao's recs like Cupid with a grocery list. He didn't get her number, but at least dinner didn't taste like regret. When Your Dog Has Better Game Than You (00:02:35) Boy meets girl. Dog meets dog. Only one party knows how to seal the deal… and it's not the humans. Two retrievers almost arranged a playdate — too bad their owners couldn't figure it out. Latte, Meet Gravity (00:03:45) Nothing sparks romance quite like a stranger launching a latte all over Kaldi's. Amid the splash zone, two people locked eyes. She smirked, he chickened out, and love evaporated faster than spilled espresso. Jim is joined by friend of the pod Mike Cleary to discuss the hall of fame candidacy of former Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo. First, Jim and Mike cover the Chicago Cubs dominance from 2015-2018 and whether winning just one World Series was disappointing in retrospect (15:05). Then, they discuss Rizzo's elite defense at first base, take a deep dive into the 2016 World Series, and debate whether the Cubs should retire Rizzo's jersey (22:02). Finally, they compare Rizzo through age 26 with the likes of Freddie Freeman, Joey Votto, and Paul Goldschmidt (1:06:15), before making a final call on whether or not Rizzo belongs in the HOF (1:12:46).
We start with Mark Vientos' hitting a 3-run HR on a 4 RBI night in the Mets win. Paul Goldschmidt had 3 hits as the Yankees swept the Cardinals.

Finally, Gio praises Jaxson Dart as an NFL QB prospect, and a caller thanks them for the Pebble Beach trip. Hour 3 Gio thinks Jerry will have an issue with Pete Alonso writing “down goes Straw” on his 253rd home run ball but Jerry is ok with it. Gio says there was no reason at all to include that. They agree that Pete definitely didn't have any negative intentions when he wrote it. Gio wasn't a big fan of Gary Cohen's call of the home run but Jerry liked it. C-Lo returns for an update but first Gio asks him to chime in on the Pete and Darryl Strawberry debate. The Mets and Yankees are a combined 6-17 since the trade deadline. They're hanging onto playoff spots by one game. It's been a dark two weeks. Chris “Mad Dog” Russo was bothered by the Mets celebration of Pete Alonso's 253rd HR and Gary Cohen's call of it. Gio doesn't agree with Dog but he thinks the pregame celebration after the record-breaking game is unnecessary. In the final segment of the hour, Gio and Jerry wonder if Pete's home run ball will stay in the Mets Hall of Fame at Citi Field or at his home. A caller wants Jeremy Hefner fired. Gio says it could happen after the season but Jerry would put the blame on the players and David Stearns before Hefner. Hour 4 The Mets and Yankees both suffered frustrating losses. Gio and Jerry agree the Yankees' offensive struggles against Joe Ryan are déjà vu. Gio believes Aaron Boone will be fired if the Yankees miss the playoffs, while Jerry is unsure. A positive Mets fan from LA, Gio's critique of the Infinity Sports Network talent draft, and C-Lo's updates are also discussed. Gio is hesitant to ask Boomer for a favor. David Wright dislikes the Mets' home pinstripes. C-Lo explains a TikTok trend Brian Daboll referenced. Taylor Swift discussed her relationship with Travis and Jason Kelce on their podcast. Eddie undermines Gio's caddy story. The Moment of the Day: "Down goes Straw" and Jerry is "our Jeff McNeil." The hour concludes with discussions about watching Hard Knocks and CBS celebrating "The NFL Today."

From throwing up during early workouts to establishing a consistent routine, Joey opens up about the grind behind making it in MLB. He shares stories about joining new organizations, growing up a Bay Area sports fan, and the challenge of navigating analytics-driven development. Joey dives deep into pitching—discussing deception vs. velocity, command over hype, and the creation of his signature pitch, the "Churve." He talks about the influence of fatherhood on his mindset, how Hosmer helped him focus on body work, and why understanding hitters' tendencies is more important than ever. Whether it's squaring off against Paul Goldschmidt or dealing with big league brawls, Joey reflects on the highs, the challenges, and what it means to be a good teammate.-------------------------HostsEric Hosmer / @hosmer305Mike Moustakas /@moosetacos8Peter Moylan / @petermoylanJustin Su'a / @justinsuaInteract with the Diggin' Deep Crew on:Instagram / Facebook / Twitter / TikTokAdvertising & Partnership inquiries: diggindeep@moonballmedia.coma MoonBall Media Podcast
Hour 1 With Gio out, Boomer & Jerry discussed the Mets' one-hit loss and sweep by the Guardians, which Boomer found unbelievable given their $400 million roster. Jerry criticized Soto's effort. C-Lo updated on the Yankees' win and the Mets' loss. Al also brought up a story already covered yesterday. Hour 2 The hour began with a call discussing Juan Soto's perceived complacency. Attention then shifted to the Jets and Giants; the Giants have stability with Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen, while the Jets face "growing pains" with a new coach and GM. The importance of preseason play for quarterbacks was debated. A caller predicted the Jets would make the playoffs. C-Lo's update followed Boomer's anecdote about seeing "mutants" outside a Broadway show. C-Lo reported the Yankees avoided a sweep, David Bednar's 5-out save, Paul Goldschmidt's pinch-hit game-winning HR, and Juan Soto's ninth-inning homer, the Mets' only hit. Jane Slater and Jerry Jones discussed Micah Parsons. The final segment covered Eddie's retirement, with Al jokingly pretending to be retired and bored, and Boomer noting frequent inquiries about his own retirement. Hour 3 Discussion points included Aaron Judge's elbow, Giancarlo Stanton's return, and retired callers unsure how to spend their time. Former Yankee Roy White advised on playing left field. C-Lo covered the Mets' near no-hitter and sweep, and Frank The Tank's Mets predictions. George Kittle discussed his job security. The hour concluded with Boomer discerning real headlines from Jerry's creations. Hour 4 Boomer and Gio are headed to Pebble Beach for golf and hiking. The NFL preseason begins, and Boomer speculates on CBS's Week 1 announcing teams. C-Lo's final update covers the Mets nearly being no-hit (saved by Soto's homer), the Arizona Rattlers' arena football loss and post-game coach rant, and Donald Trump's mispronunciation of Tua Tagovailoa. Jerry Jones was again questioned about Micah Parsons by Jane Slater. Mike Vrabel was injured breaking up a fight at Patriots camp. The Moment of The Day features Boomer encountering "mutants" in Times Square, and a caller complains about Lindor's "My Girl" walk-up music given his strikeouts. The segment ends with a look ahead to the Mets and Yankees' standings next week.
The hour began with a call suggesting Juan Soto is complacent. We then discussed the Jets and Giants, noting the Giants' stability with Daboll and Schoen versus the Jets' new coach and GM, predicting growing pains. The importance of preseason play for quarterbacks was highlighted. A caller expressed confidence in the Jets making the playoffs. C-Lo's update followed, preceded by Boomer's anecdote about seeing "mutants" outside the Aladdin theater. C-Lo reported the Yankees avoiding a sweep against the Rangers, David Bednar's 5-out save, Paul Goldschmidt's pinch-hit game-winning HR, and Juan Soto's ninth-inning homer for the Mets' only hit. Jane Slater and Jerry Jones debated the Micah Parsons situation. The hour concluded with a discussion about Eddie's retirement and Boomer's frequent inquiries about his own retirement.
Anthony Volpe struggled with the glove last night but delivered with the bat. Boomer says the Yankees should give Volpe a few days off to clear his head in the field. Jerry wants to see Paul Goldschmidt do a better job at first base helping out his teammates. The heart of the Mets order struggled with the bases loaded and nobody out early in a 7-1 loss. Boomer doesn't like his chair. We play musical chairs and switch everything around.
Hour 1 Jerry started the show with Boomer, joined by Gio later. Boomer raised questions about attending Aly's wedding and a Florida trip. Jerry's constant exclusion was discussed, though he denied being upset, especially about not being left out of the Pebble Beach trip. They then spoke to Aly about her wedding. Jerry highlighted differences in California wedding customs (no cash gifts, no suits). They discussed Anthony Volpe's hitting but fielding struggles, with Boomer suggesting time off. Jerry wanted Paul Goldschmidt to improve at first base. The Mets' heart of the order struggled in a 7-1 loss. After a chair swap, Gio reviewed what he missed due to car issues. A caller confirmed Gio's theory about smaller men wanting to fight him. Hour 2 Gio discusses a comet theory and a controversial Sydney Sweeney ad. The hosts dismiss the Nazi propaganda claims. Jerry gives an update. They discuss "Big Intern's" departure and future interns. Cody Bellinger's homer led the Yankees to a win. The Padres beat the Mets. Jose Iglesias had a good game. Juan Soto left with an injury but isn't concerned. A dildo appeared at a WNBA game. Trey Hendrickson ended his holdout. Finally, Boomer and Gio advise a caller on his first golf outing. Hour 3 Gio is surprised Mets fans want Luis Robert Jr., while Boomer and Gio agree the Mets can't give up on Mark Vientos despite his struggles. Boomer is intrigued by trading for Robert Jr. if it doesn't cost Vientos, and wants to see the Mets add pitchers. He believes the Mets will eventually have to move on from one of the young infielders. Is Steven Kwan a better target? Gio wonders why Rob Manfred was in the Phillies clubhouse. Jerry provides an update, but first, Boomer asks which Mets third baseman would be easiest to trade: Ronny Mauricio, Brett Baty, or Mark Vientos? Gio says Baty, Jerry says Vientos. Gio will not be happy if the Mets trade Mauricio or Vientos. The Mets lost their final late-night game. Juan Soto's foot X-rays were negative. Gio observed something new about Dave Sims. Anthony Volpe's bat contributed to a win, but his glove did not. Getting traded must be difficult. Boomer thinks the NBA could expand into Europe. In the final segment, Gio shares an update on trying to go to Streamsong the weekend of NFL Week 1. They could do the show from the resort on Monday, but not Tuesday. The alternate who would go if Boomer and Gio can't calls in, encouraging them to make the trip. Hour 4 Boomer and Gio discuss Giants and Jets camp, with the show at Giants camp tomorrow. They also cover NFL expectations, Aaron Glenn, and a Streamsong trip. Jerry provides an update, and Boomer sets Mets and Yankees trade deadline over/unders. Upcoming interviews include Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Brian Daboll, Dexter Lawrence, and Jevon Holland. The Yankees beat the Rays, and Pete Alonso's reaction might have led to Huascar Brazoban's demotion. Luis Gil returns Sunday. The Mets lost badly. Justin Fields is back at Jets practice. Aaron Glenn is improving the Jets. The Moment of the Day: An object on the court. They discuss NL playoff threats, believing the Padres are dangerous but not the Brewers, and Gio gets angry at fans complaining despite championships.
On Episode 989 of Hittin' Season, powered by WHYY, John Stolnis of The Good Phight recaps Wednesday night's awful loss to the Red Sox and tries to get to the bottom of Jesus Luzardo's struggles. Also, Cristopher Sanchez is now a bona fide ace, John goes inside the numbers on what makes him so special. And what are the latest Trade Rumors surrounding the Phils? John breaks down all the latest. Could the Phils move Ranger Suarez or Luzardo this summer? Show Notes: Disastrous loss in the finale Phillies blow a 5-0 lead, HRs from Schwarber, Harper, Castellanos & Stott, Realmuto It's the Phils' first loss in a game they homered five or more times since June 10, 2019. They haven't won three in a row since June 18-20. Blame Realmuto & Luzardo, who had a no-hitter going into the 5th, gives us 6 in the 5th after walking in two runs then serving up a grand slam FELL APART WHILE PITCHING FROM THE STRETCH AGAIN Thomson said they have to keep digging and working on what's wrong with Luzardo, specifically in the stretch Since June 11, opponents have hit .192/.252/.253 with 37 strikeouts and eight walks when there is no one on base against Luzardo. With runners on base, those numbers jump to .339/.443/.576, 16 strikeouts and 11 walks. (Gelb) Gelb says he went back to his old mechanics last night, but it still didn't work Jesus Luzardo says he is working day and night to fix his issues and he says they need to be fixed. He says teams are hitting him hard when he is pitching out of the stretch. He says it is not on JT Realmuto losing that foul ball pop-up. He says he and other Phillies lost it as well. Manager Rob Thomson says Jesus Luzardo lost his concentration. Phillies now 3-8 in Luzardo's last 11 starts They've now given Luzardo 3-0, 4-1 and 5-0 leads in July only to have him lose all 3 of them. He posted a 2.15 ERA in his first 11 starts. He allowed 20 runs in his next two. He made significant mechanical changes when pitching from the stretch, and it's resulted in only a 4.79 ERA over his last nine starts. UNLESS LUZARDO FIGURES THIS OUT, THEIR ENTIRE OFF-SEASON WILL HAVE BEEN A COMPLETE AND UTTER FAILURE The good news is this is a mechanical issue… which would indicate to me it CAN be fixed… but can they fix it in time? PITCH TIPPING: The Red Sox are renowned for doing this. Two pitches later, Story doubled home a run. THIS WAS NOT A STRONG ROB THOMSON GAME Luzardo should have been pulled after the second straight bases loaded walk, but got Jordan Romano up too late… after the game, Thomson admitted that was a mistake Pinch-ran Weston Wilson for Kyle Schwarber in the 10th after Schwarber's RBI single… Wilson, who is not fast… thrown out trying to steal 2nd to end the 10th With Wilson already used, Max Kepler had to face a lefty reliever and watched a called strike three to end the game in the 11th, instead of having Wilson available to pinch hit Rob Thomson on the 5th inning tonight: Said they have to keep digging and working on what's wrong with Luzardo, specifically in the stretch Harper's home run was the 350th of his career Bryce Harper tonight became the youngest of the 8 active players to reach 350 career home runs joining Giancarlo Stanton, Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, Manny Machado, Freddie Freeman, Nolan Arenado, Aaron Judge. Kyle Schwarber's 34 HR are the 3rd-most through 102 games in Phillies franchise history, behind only Ryan Howard in 2006 and Mike Schmidt in 1979 -- both had 36. Cristopher Sanchez is a TRUE ACE: https://www.thegoodphight.com/2025/7/23/24472912/cristopher-sanchez-is-a-real-bona-fide-cy-young-contender WHEELER & SANCHEZ This gives the Phillies a leg-up in the postseason No one can match what the Phillies can do in the playoffs STARK ON SCHWARBER Says he believes Schwarber will be back here 4 years, $100 million is the number… how is he going to have a better deal four years AFTER the first free agent contract??? TRADE DEADLINE LATEST: Jayson Stark on 975 the Fanatic w/ Mikey Miss: Dombrowski wants to use his biggest chips to trade for a big time power bullpen arm controllable beyond this year, Duran, Bautista, no on Miller or Clase If he gets one, it's a right-handed platoon bat that falls into his lap Bullpen arm is more important than a bat Jeff Passan: The Phillies have quietly built up one of the best farm systems in baseball, and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski's history of trading prospects for impact talent is unmatched. Still, with the Phillies entering a transition phase over the next few years, they aren't likely to sacrifice all of their depth. That complicates their tack at this deadline, because they are among the few teams with the need and capacity to acquire a pitcher of Clase's talent. Same goes for Cade Smith, another Guardian, and the Twins' two frontline relievers, Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax. Getting David Robertson for $6 million certainly helps matters and serves as insurance against objectionable demands on high-end relief pitchers. And yet adding Robertson plus a high-octane relief arm alongside Orion Kerkering and Matt Strahm gives the Phillies a representative back end. If they can also add a right-handed-hitting outfielder with power -- Adolis Garcia is in the mix, and Luis Robert Jr. would play, too -- it will be a successful deadline for a team whose starting pitching is good enough to carry it deep into October. Ruben Amaro & Jim Salisbury on Phillies Show Very interesting stuff on the show from Amaro (doesn't think they'll be able to get a lock down closer), Aiden Miller might be more untouchable than Painter, and the clubhouse talking about Eugenio Suarez (Salisbury). @JohnnyPhisher: Phillies need a RHH OF @Buster_ESPN: A surprise name has emerged in the starting pitcher market: Dylan Cease, who will be eligible for free agency at year's end. Perception of other teams is that the Padres are intent on making a push for the playoffs, and would use Cease to help fill other roster needs. Mets, AL East teams, Cubs among teams that have talked about him. COULD THE PHILLIES DO SOMETHING SIMILAR WITH RANGER SUAREZ OR JESUS LUZARDO? Jo Adell started slow, but on May 6 he hit a 9th inning HR in a blowout that got things going for him. Since then (67 gms) he has a .907 OPS (top 20 in MLB) with 19 HR (T-6th), and his .563 SLG is higher than any Phillies player. An interesting name: Dane Myers. Plays center field for the Marlins. The right-handed 29 year is wailing on lefties: .324/.385/.493, .878 OPS, 2 HRs, 13 RBIs in 78 PAs, 6 doubles. Would be a platoon guy. The Phillies and Padres are two of the many teams that have expressed interest in Steven Kwan, reports Jon Heyman of The New York Post. Both National League contenders are known to be looking for a left field upgrade.
Austin wonders, what if the Pirates moved on from the GM and manager at the end of last season? Jason thinks there is misguided trust the Pirates put in Cherington and Shelton they find it hard to admit. Paul Goldschmidt signed with the Yankees and the Pirates could have taken the risk there.

It's just Jane and Lauren again and we did a great job staying on topic because there was a ton of great baseball stuff to talk about. Dbacks have another weird game, this time giving up nine runs before recording an out. Jose Ferrer learning to play saxophone in the bullpen. Yankees/Dodgers. Paul Goldschmidt is having a great season. Twins/Mariners series is outrageous so far and Cal Raleigh is dumping dingers all over the place. MLB makes an investment in Athletes Unlimited. Then of course we had to talk about Pride Month and a terrible Pride article from Outsports. We unlocked our Pride Guide for 2025 on the main feed, but you should still go support the show at Patreon.com/BattingAround by signing up at the Slapdick Prospect tier.
Hour 1 The Knicks suffered a tough loss in Boston last night to the Celtics, who played well despite missing Jayson Tatum. The third quarter was particularly bad for the Knicks, with OG Anunoby singled out for a poor performance and Jalen Brunson getting into foul trouble. Coach Thibs noted the team's lack of toughness at times. Josh Hart was questioned about the team's energy. Radio hosts Evan Roberts and Tommy Lugauer attended the game, with Lugauer later criticizing Evan harshly in a video. The Mets lost to the Pirates, while the Yankees beat the Mariners behind a Judge home run. We also touched on the start of the PGA Championship and a viral video about a NJ firefighter who caught his wife cheating. Hour 2 The full NFL schedule is out, with the Giants facing a tough slate while the Jets open at home against the Steelers (potentially with Aaron Rodgers). Shedeur Sanders expressed interest in changing the Browns' culture, and the NFL is seen as heavily featuring the Chiefs again. The Knicks' loss in Boston was recapped with Shaq saying Jalen Brunson is better than Jaylen Brown. The Timberwolves beat the Warriors to win their series. The Mets were shut out, while in the Yankees game, Paul Goldschmidt hit a key homer without a "Hey Now" call. The Oilers advanced in the NHL playoffs.Other topics included BT's interest in animal interactions, the passing of the alligator from "Happy Gilmore," and Theo Von having an incident with a fan. Hour 3 The Knicks lost, but a glass-half-full outlook suggests they can win at home tomorrow. Individual player stats were poor, and Boomer noted the team's frequent falls. A caller challenged Jerry's earlier statement that the series was over. Jerry played audio of the Knicks' loss in Boston but predicts a Knicks blowout at home. The show featured audio of Tommy Lugauer criticizing Evan Roberts after the game and clips of Evan's commentary when the Knicks were ahead. The hour concluded with a call from the viral NJ firefighter. Hour 4 More discussion centered on the Knicks' loss to the Celtics, highlighting Boston's adjustments and reactions from players like Jalen Brunson and Coach Thibs, who cited disappointment with the performance. Knicks fan Timothee Chalamet was in attendance, and a caller criticized a video from Shaun Morash about the loss. Another caller suggested a spelling bee using BT's vocabulary. In other sports, the Timberwolves eliminated the Warriors. The Mets were shut out by the Pirates in a rainy game that featured a raccoon sighting. The "Moment of The Day" involved a hypothetical scenario about Eddie criticizing B&G on air. The final segment included a discussion about Rich Eisen, whom Gio called "the most boring talk show host in America."
