Finally a video game that makes good on the power fantasy of getting behind the wheel of the Death Star and drifting around planets and other celestial bodies at high speed.
Arnaldo, Ozzy, and Paul get together for a rare evening recording that sees strange, sleep deprived ramblings from Ozzy about Chinese surveillance before moving on to the video games, starting with a look back at the entire Persona Dancing series from someone who fell while playing Dance Dance Revolution (10:00). Ozzy is up next with Front Mission DS (36:30) and scratching that retro video game itch with Blazing Chrome on the Switch (54:30). Paul finishes up by redeeming a previous Ozzy shaming with Gradius V for the shmup fans (1:07:30) and a discussion about Tetris 99 (1:21:30) that causes us to come an inevitable conclusion: We are all Tetris. It's another packed episode this week, as we give impressions on one of the year's biggest game releases and dive into the depths of depression with the worst Doctor Who season ever. But before that, Sean and Jonathan go over all the news out of this week's Game Awards event – including the most surprising DLC announcement in years – and give continuing thoughts on a variety of recent games, including Hitman 2 and the Persona 3 and Persona 5 dancing games, now available in English. Jonathan gives impressions of the amazing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch, and we then commiserate over the miserable experience that was the Doctor Who Series 11 finale. We talk about where the episode and the season went wrong, but also go deeper with the season's treatment of diversity, arguing that a season that appeared progressive on the surface wound up being politically regressive in a number of ways, betraying the character of the Doctor and wasting an opportunity to meaningfully evolve the status quo. It's one of the most in-depth discussions we've had about any topic in the history of the podcast, and we hope you'll give it a listen. Enjoy! On this episode of Video Games 2 the MAX, Sean Garmer and Marc Morrison discuss quite a few topics. Not to mention, they have listened to the audience and commenters as well. Welcome to their first video podcast. What will hopefully be the first of many to come. The guys begin talking about CBS doing a Gamers Choice Awards. What it means for the industry to now have two award shows basically back to back. Will this one be good? What do they think of the actual awards? And will the celebrities help or hurt the show? They also talk about Starbreeze Studios issues thanks to a bad game. Loot Boxes possibly being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission. Fallout 76 being investigated for a potential lawsuit, and what nylon bags have to do it. They also talk about the possible surprises and games we could see at the Game Awards. One name that won't be there is Rocksteady. Who aren't making a Superman game, as many speculated? But what are they making? Plus, Daredevil canceled. Evangelion is coming to Netflix. Marc talks Just Cause 4 and Detroit: Become Human. While Sean talks Bendy and the Ink Machine and Nairi: Tower of Shirin. Both guys get excited about Persona Dancing and Super Smash Bros. too.

Marvel's third film of the year arrived this week with Ant-Man & The Wasp, an imperfect and slight film that is nevertheless an absurd amount of fun. We give it our traditional in-depth treatment, but before that, Sean pays homage to two recently deceased creative giants who have had a big influence on him – Spider-Man creator and renowned comics artist Steve Ditko, and science-fiction giant Harlan Ellison – and Jonathan's brother Thomas joins us for another discussion about Persona 3 Dancing and Persona 5 Dancing, as he's gone and nabbed all the high scores in those games to go along with his obsessive high scores from Persona 4 Dancing. Oh, and during the Persona talk, Sean also expressed his desire to see the game's remix of “Burn My Dread” laid over footage of classic-style Sonic the Hedgehog, and I obliged on the fly. It works amazingly well. https://youtu.be/-Y6G8Hj7VMI Enjoy! With E3 2018 just around the corner, we check in on what we're expecting from all the major players – Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft, and Bethesda – before next week's big show. This has been one of the leakiest E3's ever, but there's a lot left to speculate about in what seems like it's going to be an eventful convention. We also review the new Persona Dancing games from Japan – Persona 3 Dancing Moon Night and Persona 5 Dancing Star Night – in greater depth, gushing over all the best songs, dances, costumes, and more, and Jonathan tries to explain some very bad Yu-Gi-Oh filler in a segment that quickly goes off the rails.
