Previously on Rhythm Encounter, we have talked about some important first impressions, namely some of our favorite intro themes, and even title screen music. But what happens next is just as important: the opening hours of an RPG can really set the stage for what's to come. When thinking about our favorite games, it's fun to think back to how they began, and how well the mood and world is established through the narrative, characters, and of course, the music. Today we're sharing some of our favorite early game tunes that were instrumental (sorry not sorry) in getting us into some great games.Featuring: Mike Salbato, Michael Sollosi, Patrick Gann, Wes Iliff; Edited by Paul DennisTracklist0:06:23 - Reminiscence (Miki Higashino) - Suikoden II0:08:11 - Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World (Yasunori Mitsuda) - Chrono Cross0:31:30 - City of Bells (Ken Nakagawa) - Atelier Iris ~Eternal Mana~0:33:32 - Caravan Crossroad (Kumi Tanioka) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles0:57:24 - Autumn's Rise (Deniz Akbulut) - CrossCode1:00:14 - Garland Office (Yoshitaka Hirota) - Shadow Hearts: From the New World1:16:50 - Unary Game (Shinji Hosoe) - 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors1:19:04 - Pledge of Demon (Hidenori Shoji) - Yakuza 01:51:57 - Sollosi's Bonus Track!Album links for places to buy, stream, and more are available in our post on RPGFan.Get in Touch:RPGFan.comRPGFan ShopEmail us: music@rpgfan.comTwitter: @rpgfancomInstagram: @rpgfancomThreads: @rpgfancomFacebook: rpgfancomTwitch: rpgfancom

Welcome back to IndieQuest, a celebration of the indie and obscure! Your home for all things indie games! On this episode we bring back one of our favorite topics of conversation, second opinions. On second opinion episodes, each host plays a game from the quest log that somebody else brought, and takes them to task. Do they agree with the placement of the game on the quest log? Was it a good recommendation? These episodes are mostly an excuse for us to take suggestions from our friends, and actually get through some of the games on the quest log that we're interested in.Other topics of conversation are summer time, amusement parks, and steam sale pickups!Enjoy! :D-------------Games talked about in the show (contains spoilers for the episode):-------------Dave the Diver, Undertale, Crosscode, Death's Door, Oxenfree---------------------------------------------Leave us questions, comments, concerns, or feedback of any kind at our email indiequestpod@gmail.com or follow us on twitter @indiequestpod!If you want to see the Quest Log go to bit.ly/questlog! Last Video Game Book Club pick was way, way too long to play in a week (Gary is still playing CrossCode!) so this week we've picked something shorter: titularly shorter, in fact. A Short Hike is a tiny, perfectly cut gem of a game, and we're too distracted sharing everything we've found to level more than one or two criticisms at it. Play it, and then join us on this mountaintop hot spring! Content warning: spoilers for A Short Hike throughout the entire episode, CrossCode spoilers in the post-pod (after the outro music). Also, as a reminder - always feel free to skip the post-pod. Or the post-post-pod. My cohosts are maniacs and told me to leave it all in. Blame me for saying I wanted the ep to be longer than the game. ~feather In this episode: this isn't a walking sim, favorite NPCs, the corrupt world of sand castle politics, pixel crunchiness, the merits of maps, podcasting bird says flying is good, ending spoilers, Will gives a game design lecture, feather interrupts, Gary professes a love for Gregg. ~shoutouts zone~ Midwinter Soup Frenzy Dueling Peaks vista Liyue Harbor vista Feather is editing this one so have another Genshin vista (it's Sumeru City) Avalon City, in the best open world game (literally just going outside) Join us in playing our next game as part of our video game book club series: Night in the Woods ~~~ Our theme music comes from the wonderful Hokuto. For our second entry in our Video Game Book Club, we played CrossCode, a wonderful love letter to they heyday of MMORPGs! And what better way to pay our own homage to this era than by trying to play a 40 hour game in two weeks? Maybe this was a bad idea! Or maybe we just aren't in high school anymore? Either way, we (mostly) had a great time, and now we're ready to sit down and talk about it! In this episode: MMO experience, I play too much Zelda to have a silent protagonist like this, we fail to explain what CrossCode is for 10 minutes, if the game wants me to stop it'll have to tell me to stop, gamepad vs mouse & keyboard vs secret third option mouse & gamepad??, this love letter to MMORPGs plays a lot like Zelda, we really tried to do a 40 hour game in two weeks, too many shoutouts (sorry not sorry?) ~shoutouts zone~ Space Cowboy Online got bought and sold a bunch of times and apparently you can still play it? This episode has been a long time coming, as Josh and Shea have been wanting to talk about this game for years. Crosscode, a game created by Radical Fish Games and Deck13, is an action RPG that tells the story of Lea, who finds herself in the MMORPG called Crossworlds…but she has no recollection of who is she or what she's doing there. As she explores Crossworlds, she meets many characters who both help her and challenge her. The deeper she gets into the world, a mystery starts to unfurl. The conversation takes many interesting twists and turns, as Josh and Shea discuss the superb writing, the future of AI, and framing of a narrative. PixelSmiths: Stories of the Creative Minds Behind Indie Video Games
On this episode, Larry & Clinton talk with Felix Klein, co-founder of Radical Fish Games, and one of the creators of CrossCode. CrossCode is a retro-inspired 2D Action RPG that combines 16-bit SNES-style graphics with smooth physics, a fast-paced combat system, and engaging puzzle mechanics. In this conversation, they talk with Felix about making hobby projects with RPG Maker as a teen, his path to studying computer science and programming, growing his dev team through remote work relationships, and spending almost a decade growing CrossCode from a detailed puzzle game into an in depth sci-fi RPG. Other games/media that are discussed include: Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Terranigma, Xenoblade, Portal, Devil May Cry, Golden Sun, Ricochet Robots, Yoshi's Island, .hack, and Sword Art Online, ----------------------------- Find CrossCode on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/368340/CrossCode/ Visit the Radical Fish website: https://www.radicalfishgames.com/ Follow Felix on twitter: https://twitter.com/lachsen Learn more about your ad choices.
