Safer Sleeping For Your Little One Today's Bitesize clip is from episode E.32 One of the most important things to consider as a new parent is ways to practice safer sleeping with your little one. Sadly, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome claims the lives of around 4 babies each week in the UK so informing ourselves about ways to help reduce this risk and to ensure your baby is sleeping as safely as possible is a key part of parenthood preparation. I am delighted to be joined on this week's episode by the wonderful Stella parkin who works for The Lullaby Trust to talk through ways we can do just that and provide you with some of the essential information you need to support your little one's safer sleeping journey. Follow this link to check it out www.lullabytrust.org.uk/ For expectant or new parents under 25 years of age there is an additional resource available for you here: https://littlelullaby.org.uk Joining us for today's chat is Stella, Stella qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1986 at Guy's Hospital, London. Following a range of nursing roles including as a practice nurse and school nurse, Stella undertook her health visitor qualification and gained a PGCE working as a lecturer on a range of health-related courses. Stella initially joined The Lullaby Trust in 2016 as a Regional Development Officer in the South West. The role involved representing The Lullaby Trust at a regional level to raise and maintain awareness of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) within the region and spread safer sleep messages, mainly through delivering training. She also supported bereaved parents in the region through annual Family Days and was the local contact for Lullaby Trust befrienders. Stella now works as the Professional Development Lead within The Lullaby Trust. This new role means that Stella is involved with ensuring that The Lullaby Trust's work reflects public health priorities. I was delighted to chat to Airmid about her background in both Western and Chinese Medicine and why we believe that an integrated model of medicine which uses both Western (Allopathic) alongside complementary therapies and lifestyle can optimize our health. Airmid is a Registered General Nurse and a licensed member of the Acupuncture Council Of Ireland. She trained as a General Nurse in the UK and was fortunate to experience many great opportunities including working in UK, Australia and France. As she evolved in the medical field she became interested in "Health and Wellbeing". Her goal is to provide a service that is compassionate, comprehensive and considers the emotional and physical needs of her patients. She believes that her background in Nursing and Acupuncture provides her with the knowledge to provide care that compliments both Western and Chinese medicine. As we discussed energy, our store cupboard staple is Bananas! I explain why they are such a little powerhouse so when you pop them into your shopping trolley this week you will have a whole new respect for them!! They can be eaten as a snack with some nuts or seeds (walnuts and bananas yum!) or in a sandwich with wholegrain bread and nut butter, or in the chia pudding at the link below. Of course banana bread and so many other baking recipes use them so some links below also.
