Abby and Patrick welcome returning guest Hannah Zeavin – scholar, write, editor, co-founder of the Psychosocial Foundation and Founding Editor of Parapraxis magazine – to talk about her brand-new book, Mother Media: Hot and Cool Parenting in the 20th Century. It's an exploration of the complex relationships that have tied together the figure of the mother as an abstraction, the work of mothering as a practical matter, and academic and popular discourses about what mothers should be and how they should go about doing it. What does it mean to think about the mother as a “medium” for containing, nurturing, and shepherding the development of a child, and why do debates about mothering pivot so invariably around questions of media consumption and technological mediation? The conversation spans the history of academic research into parenting from behaviorism to attachment theory; clinical and popular discourses about mothers from Freud to Dr. Spock; the profusion of tools that promise to “help” mothers with their kids; “good-enough” mothering, mother-blaming, and vicious double binds; moral, political, and legal debates about nannies, “helicopter mothers,” incarcerated mothers, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome; and much, much more. October is SIDS awareness month. SIDS, which stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is the reason it's important to understand what it means to practice safe sleep. One of the recommendations you'll see around safe sleep is room sharing with your baby, but with the baby in their own safe sleep space, i.e. a crib or bassinet. With some babies, room sharing truly makes sleep easier, but for others, it makes sleep more challenging for all parties involved. In this episode, Allison strives to help parents figure out if room sharing is helping or hurting their baby's sleep. Listen in If you have wondered if room sharing is contributing to sleep struggles and/or aren't sure about when exactly you want to transition your baby into their own room. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is never an easy subject to talk about, but it is an important area of research. Which is why the Center for Disease Control and Prevention is studying children around the country who have succumbed to this syndrome.
What do you do when you get your baby home and they refuse to sleep in the way that all the books and doctors say they should - facing up, swaddled & alone in their bassinet. It's a good question that doesn't have a good answer. SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is something that all new parents this day and age are very aware of and there's not a lot of assistance for parents of infants who refuse to comply. Constable Helen Grus was looking into whether or not the babies who died suddenly during the fake plandemic came from parents who had been jabbed. The Trudeau government decided this was a step too far and they are now bringing her to court. She is being charged with several infractions including "discreditable conduct" which is about as Orwellian a term as one could think of. Trudeau has also forced Ottawa Police Sergeant Marc-Andre Guy to reject any investigations by police into "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome" following injections. This latest tyranny comes after the Trudeau government cracked down on independent media as we've seen a rise in police visiting people's homes in Canada for questioning the mass genocide from the injections on social media or in videos. Meanwhile countless new studies pile up showing the massive rise in deaths demonstrably from the injections. Stay tuned for more from WAM! Today I am going to talk about why I cannot ethically promote formula feeding and fed is best rhetoric and why we need to understand why downplaying formula feeding risks is dangerous and unhelpful to parents. We'll also chat about how our government and healthcare agencies are actually part of the problem. I acknowledge that some of this information may be hard to hear and that feelings of guilt may occur. Know that I present this information to educate, bring awareness and prevent harm to the next generation. We all do what's best with what we know at the current moment. That goes for moms, birth professionals, dads, grandparents, and other caregivers. However, use this information to educate the next generation of parents. It would be unethical however to not bring awareness to this topic. Infant sleep is one of the most polarizing topics in the baby community, and in true MOTR fashion, we do not hold back.We break down all the sleep myths including how you can't “train” your baby to sleep and bed-sharing leads to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (it is actually protective against it!). Yes we're biased, however don't just take it from us; we cite our sources who are the actual experts in this field including James McKenna Ph.D. of “Safe Infant Sleep” and Dr. Sarah Buckley of “Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering.”We explore the perceived “risks” the predatory infant sleep industry wants you to believe and share the myriad benefits (for mom and baby) of bed-sharing, and if that's not your cup of tea, co-sleeping. For sleep deprived moms, we discuss our favorite creative ways to catch up on sleep that do not involve sleep training your baby, watching the clock or letting your baby "cry it out". Oh, and we answer a couple of interesting questions our listeners submitted- we've got your backs! We recognize infant sleep is not a one-size-fits-all approach for every family, however it's also not as black and white as putting your baby in a crib “drowsy but awake”. Sleep is something that many new parents obsess over. Is their baby getting enough sleep? Too much sleep? Not enough consolidated sleep? It can be overwhelming and exhausting. One of the biggest fears about sleep that many parents with a new baby have is SIDS. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the sudden, unexpected and unexplained death of an apparently healthy baby. About 2,300 babies die per year in the United States.1 It's an alarming statistic, and every parent wants to reduce the risk of SIDS for their babies. Thankfully we have a special guest who is talking to us about it and what we can do. Dr. Harvey Karp is one of America's most trusted pediatricians and we are thrilled to have him on our podcast again. He is the author of the bestselling books Happiest Baby on the Block and Happiest Toddler on the Block and the video Happiest Baby on the Block, which I highly recommend. Dr. Karp has become a household name and has helped millions of parents understand safe infant sleep practices. He has guided parents on nurturing their children and relieving some of the stressful issues new parents face. We couldn't think of a better person to talk to about this important topic. Today Dr. Karp discusses SIDS — what parents need to know and how to reduce the risk of SIDS. We talk about the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently updated sleep guidelines, the new research that found a possible connection to babies at risk of SIDS, and more. There are many ways to reduce the risk of SIDS and practice safe sleep, and Dr. Karp is breaking it all down for us. Resources 1. https://www.childrenshospital.org/
Chad Cordero is one of the greatest baseball players to ever wear a Cal State Fullerton uniform. For three years (01-03) he was unstoppable on the mound. He was drafted by the Expos in the 1st round (20th overall). Cordero's best season was in 2005, when he was an All-Star and won the Rolaids Relief Man Award. During the period of 2005–2007, he recorded 113 saves. He completed the 2005 season with 47 saves, leading the major leagues, and was selected to the National League pitching staff for the 2005 MLB All-Star game. Cordero (at age 25 years and 86 days) became the second youngest player in baseball history to reach 100 saves in a career. (Francisco Rodríguez is the youngest at 24 years and 246 days old. Cordero missed almost all of the 2008 season after undergoing surgery to repair a labrum tear, an injury he suffered in April.[2] On October 30, 2008 the Nationals sent him outright to AAA Syracuse, and he rejected the assignment, becoming a free agent. Among other reasons for Cordero's rejection was that he was displeased with how he found out that he would be "non-tendered" by the Nationals at the end of the season—via an impromptu comment made by Nationals' GM Jim Bowden on a radio show in July. Chad has two children: Riley and Tehya. Tehya died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 2010. He was named head coach of the Iolani softball team in Hawaii. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matt-brown57/support

Jason and Mikey sat down with the Better Life Guy, Matt Pink on the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast. They discussed why Matt wrote the best-selling book "Better Me, Better You" which not only tells his story of addiction recovery but all works as an interactive guidebook for a better life. Matt grew up with a great childhood and a close-knit family. However, he would drink and party with friends, but his friends continued to grow into adulthood and start their families. Matt would continue his ways of drinking and drugs. After the death of his son in 2013, his addiction began to consume his life. That's when he really hit the bottle hard, sniffing "Gear" along with anything else he could get his hands on. After years of drinking, doing random drugs, and couch surfing all around London, Matt Pink had a spiritual awakening that would change his life forever which he shares. He knew what he was doing was wrong, however, one random man that appeared and went off in the night that he met outside the pub, woke Matt up and guided him in the right direction. Had it not been for Matt's friend being with him, he was sure nobody would believe him. Matt has now been sober for over 3 years, is an accomplished author, meditates, works out daily, and is constantly making progress to achieve his goals. Married, with a family and as he revealed on the podcast he has a baby girl on the way. This is Matt Pink, the Better Life Guy in his own words on the Knockin' Doorz Down Podcast. In this episode, Rachelle discusses her research on the use of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) as a diagnosis through a sociological lens. She discusses SIDS as a wastebasket diagnosis and the lack of conclusive medical findings surrounding the diagnosis, social diagnoses, and what functions a label or diagnosis serves in our society, especially in the context of infant death. If you would like to read Rachelle's article, Pathologizing the Unknown: A Sociological Explanation for the (Mis-)Use of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome as a Diagnosis, you can find it here. As we kick off Season 2 of the podcast, we're going to dive into the research on an area that often brings fear to new parents - rightfully - that of SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Most people will be aware of best sleep practices promoted by professionals - put your baby to sleep on their back, no extra items in the sleeping area, and no matter what you do, never sleep with your baby. But how well do these recommendations stand up to the actual research? What do we really know versus what we're being told? Joining me (again) is one of my favourite people and one who is out there changing the way we think about our advice for SIDS through research and advocacy - Dr. Helen Ball. Through her work at Durham University's Parent-Infant Sleep Centre, she has been helping professionals and families better understand the risks around SIDS and how we can best support families with evidence-based information. If you think you know the evidence behind sleep recommendations, you may need to think again.
