This time of the year can significantly changeour children's lives. Maybe your child is just graduating from preschool, high school, or college. Maybe you have a newly engaged child or are expecting their first child. No matter what the change may be, some significant emotions come with each change of seasons in our lives. The only way we can navigate all the change is by clingingto the truths of the Bible and holding tightly to Jesus when our children begin to hit what a Pastor friend of mine calls "launching points". We had the pleasure of interviewing Hudson Thames over Zoom video!Prolific songwriter, performer, and actor Hudson Thames has shared his soul-soothing debut album BAMBINO, available to stream now on all DSPs worldwide via Loaded Dice Entertainment. The album is laced with moody pop anthems, deeply emotional ballads, and genuinely timeless songwriting, paying homage to icons like Elton John, Billy Joel, and Paul McCartney. It features standout tracks “Wrong,” “Cold Summer,” “Weight” (feat. Kelsey Karter) and “Man of the World,” which features Jamie Cullum and was produced by Stephan Moccio (The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus). “BAMBINO is an Italian term of endearment that means ‘Baby' or ‘Little One.' My dad remarried when I was twelve to a big Sicilian clan and my family grew by about a thousand people overnight,” says Thames. “As I floated through family functions and dinner parties, the term Bambino was assigned to me and I always felt that it was really sweet. This album is so coming of age for me. It's been whittled down over the last two years to highlight the most important moments of growth and learning during the most challenging but important time in my life. As I figure out my place in the world as a man, it feels like the right time to relinquish the title of ‘Bambino' and give it MY baby; This body of work.”A product of a honkey-tonk piano player father, Rat Pack Vegas performers, and a crew of skate rats from The San Fernando Valley, Hudson's pop sensibility has old school roots. Hudson first saw radio success with his first single, “How I Want Ya” feat. Hailee Steinfeld, and “Drive it Like You Stole it,” which led to performances on The Today Show, The Radio Disney Music Awards, as well as dozens of featured TV and film placements. When Hudson isn't busy playing music, he can be found sharing his talents on-screen. Bursting onto the stage at only 13 years old, Hudson's acting career began with roles in Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Browns' 13 the Musical alongside Ariana Grande, Distracted with Rita Wilson, and Falsetto's with Jason Alexander. He also has landed roles on acclaimed shows like The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Mad Men, to name a few. Currently, Thames is starring in Disney+'s new animated Spider-Man series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, as Peter Parker's voice. We want to hear from you! Sharing. It's one of the first skills that we have to learnas kids and, as anyone who has gamed for long enough, some kids never quitelearned how to do it. Our longtime listener, Jim Laubacker, posed a questionregarding how to best deal with players that won't share the spotlight. As abonus, Jim is also trying to balance a group that is a hybrid of in-person and virtualplayers! In this episode, Tony, Chris, and Dave discuss the ways inwhich they've adjusted to turn the dominant and passive players weaknesses atthe table into strengths. Right now you are likely experiencing the post-holiday glow…or the post-holiday spending hangover. And even if you didn't blow your budget in 2023, you may struggle with impulse purchases. The average American spent $151 per month on impulse purchases in 2023, or over $1800 in a year. If spending money more intentionally in 2024 is one of your goals, today's episode with Meghan Dwyer is for you. Meghan is a Certified Financial Planner and host of the Money Isn't Scary podcast. After spending 15 years watching women take a passive role in the management of their money, she's on a mission to help them stop playing small. By challenging the societal norms around women and money, Meghan aims to empower women to make money decisions out of a sense of abundance and confidence, rather than scarcity and fear. When Meghan isn't working, she loves running, writing, and being mom to her two young boys. On today's episode, Meghan shares her best tips on developing a values-based spending strategy so you can go into 2024 with confidence - rather than with a bunch of stuff you wish you hadn't bought from Amazon! I've been pursuing a simpler, more minimal lifestyle for almost a decade and have learned a lot along the way. But hosting this podcast continues to teach me something new every week! So here's 23 things I've learned about decluttering in 2023. Last days of my GIVEAWAY! If you leave a written review in Apple Podcasts between December 12, 2023 and December 31, 2023 AND send a screenshot of the review (info@simplebyemmy.com or direct message me on Facebook or Instagram), you'll be in the running for a free autographed copy of my children's book Little One. Great as a gift for the little ones in your life! Resources Mentioned: Here's the list of 23 things I learned about decluttering in 2023 with links to all the relevant episodes! 1. I need to always remind myself why I'm holding on, and why I'm letting go. (Episode 3) 2. My emotions and thoughts are not my reality. I can feel overwhelm (vibration in my body) and have a thought, but can always ask if the thought is true. My thoughts are not me. (Episode 82) 3. I can have the courage to understand my values and live in alignment with them, even if they aren't what everyone else does. (Episode 3) 4. Decluttering unemotional areas first gives me the momentum and the strength of small wins so I can do harder things. (Episode 5) 5. Artificial boundaries, including margins in my day, allow me to live within my capacity. (Episode 6 and Episode 30) 6. What I model to my kids matters. (Episode 18) 7. If decluttering is decision making, clutter is delayed decisions. (Episode 6) 8. Decluttering is reclaiming what is rightfully mine - my time, energy, focus, and attention. (Episode 8) 9. Once I've paid for something with money, I don't have to keep paying for it with my time and energy. I can let go of the guilt and move on. (Episode 9) 10. Keeping aspirational clutter - things that we used to do, that used to fit us - just makes me feel bad about myself. I can let it go knowing that in another season, I may be able to get back to those things but I don't have to feel bad about my life now. (Episode 10) 11. Just because an item has memories attached, doesn't mean I need to keep it if the memories aren't positive ones. (Episode 11) 12. Perfectionism and procrastination are two sides of the same coin. Not doing it perfectly prevents me from starting, so I'm going to start small and imperfectly, especially with decluttering. (Episode 12 and Episode 73) 13. Your loved ones want you to be happy, not burdened by their stuff. Let go of the guilt. A gift given out of love doesn't need to be kept out of guilt. (Episode 14) 14. “Just in case” likely means never. Instead, focus on “just for when” items - seasonal, etc. and be realistic about what you actually use and need. (Episode 15) 15. The most powerful questions I can ask myself are “What can I lay down?” and “What unnecessary decisions can I remove from my life?” (Episode 19) 16. Just because I get something for free or a gift does not mean I need to keep it. I am the CEO of my home. (Episode 23) 17. I set the tone for my home and what is acceptable when it comes to clutter and tidying. (Episode 81) 18. You need a system around your stuff or else you'll continue to feel overwhelmed. (Episode 81) 19. Clutter-free living is not a final destination. It's a journey and process based upon small, consistent steps. (Episode 52) 20. Thinking about my family being burdened by my stuff if something happens to me may be morbid, but it's super powerful. (Episode 65) 21. There is nothing I can buy that is going to make me feel better in the long run. Dopamine is fleeting. Peace that comes from a clutter-free home is better than any purchase. (Episode 23) 22. Being present with my kids is more important than sticking to any routine perfectly. (Episode 74) 23. I am worth more than anything I have ever paid for what I own. What is the connection between our nervous system and how we experience motherhood? How can we process and release our emotions in a healthy way and then teach that to our children? How can we proactively manage our triggers so we can feel less overwhelmed? These are just some of the questions I am diving into today with Michelle Grosser. Michelle is a Nervous System Expert, Certified Master Life Coach, and host of The Calm Mom Podcast. Through somatic and neuroscience-based modalities, she coaches women through discovering what's beneath their triggers and emotions, so they can begin their healing journey and find peace in the present. She deeply believes that the most profound thing we can offer our children is our own healing. She and her husband Jeff have two daughters and live in Miami, FL. In this episode, Michelle shares simple ways we can equip ourselves to recognize nervous system dysregulation by our body's somatic cues and combat that dysregulation in a “language” that our body understands through somatic techniques. This is such an informative and tactical conversation you don't want to miss! GIVEAWAY ALERT! CHOOOO CHOOOO! Welcome legends!
The Lord chose to reveal himself to us through a story --a story that actively shapes us the more we study and understand it. But it's not only the gospel narratives that we see in scripture that can shape us --all stories have a profound ability to cast us in their image. The question is, what kind of stories are we listening to? As moms, why should we be particularly thoughtful about the stories that are defining our family culture? Not in a way that is fearful, but in a way that helps us to glory in the best story ever told?As we head into the Christmas season, what are some particularly sweet stories and books we might share with our families? What traditions, old and new, might we enjoy together that will help us to reflect on the mystery of what God has done for us?Listen in for an uplifting conversation with Leah Nicklaus, a homeschooling mama of five sweet and wild boys. Her family lives in Iowa where they are involved in their local church and community. Leah is passionate about beautiful books that point us to the gospel message, nourish our minds, and reveal what is good, true, and beautiful.
