Dr Mohamad Al-Ississ, Macro and Geopolitical Strategist and former Finance Minister of Jordan, joins Tellimer Founder and CEO Duncan Wales to examine how a new era of geopolitical fragmentation is fundamentally reshaping the calculus for emerging market investors, sovereigns and corporations. Drawing on Mohamad's decade of leading Jordan's fiscal and economic policy, and his subsequent work advising boards and institutions on macro strategy and sovereign risk, the conversation examines why the world has shifted from optimising for efficiency to competing on resilience, and what that means for sovereign differentiation across emerging markets. They explore how AI is less a software story for EMs than an infrastructure and human capital imperative, and why energy policy has become inseparable from industrial and defence strategy. The episode also covers the corridor economies of Turkey and Azerbaijan, the risks of fiscal short-termism, and why career-safe index investing is increasingly a dangerous bet.The Emerging Markets Podcast by Tellimer – Emerging Markets, Connected. Mohammad Hassan, former Ethiopian diplomat, veteran communist and a friend of Eritrean independence speaks at our Southall Seminar on Sudan. Professor Hassan gives a weekly TV political education class and current affairs program that is broadcast to the entire Horn of Africa, and for Amharic speakers can be enjoyed here: / @zementvzewdushow3 He gives a background to the geopolitics of Sudan, talks about its rich resources and history and notes that it has all the resources to be a prosperous country: land, water, oil, gold, people! It was the biggest country in Africa. The people were prosperous before it was colonised. It could feed the world - Why should they suffer? Above all, leadership and vision decide everything! The crime of Khruschevite revisionism limited the scope of action and vision of the Sudanese and Middle Eastern communist movement. They lost the will and ability to fight for independence and to take the wealth and organise society for our liberation. Cde Hassan notes also the role of French imperialism in slaughtering 10,000 Arabic teachers in order to make the “Pygmi” language of French the lingua franca of their African Empire. Which it remains to this day. The Abraham accords are only signed by Bahrain and the Emirates. Those tiny states are sectarian extensions of imperialism, and along with Israel are designed to police the entire region. To that end they have embarked on a program of “port” imperialism, to control the strategic waterway of the Red Sea and its African and Arabian coastline. In this way they can dominate not only the key trading routes of the world, but the adjoining nations access to those key waterways - it is this that is responsible for the ills of the region. ------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe! In this powerful episode, Elijah Murrell sits down with Mohamad Faridi to share his incredible journey from growing up in Iran to encountering Jesus Christ.Raised in a culture centered on martyrdom, sacrifice, and striving to please God, Mohamad did everything he was taught—yet still found himself empty and without assurance. Despite his devotion, his prayers felt unanswered, and his efforts were never enough.Everything changed when he heard the message of Jesus. In this conversation, Mohamad opens up about what it was really like growing up in Islam, the weight of trying to earn God's approval, and the moment he realized that Jesus had already done what he was striving for. He also shares his perspective on a major question in today's culture: Does the Quran truly make America better? This is a raw and eye-opening testimony about faith, truth, and the freedom found in Christ.Get Mohamad's book, "Forsaking My Father's Religion"https://iranchristians.org/books/WAYS TO CONNECT WITH ELIJAH

In 2004 a rugby union team was formed in the Syrian capital Damascus. It consisted of British and French players working in the country, and one Syrian: Mohamad Jarkou. As protests against Syria's government in 2011 were met with violent crackdowns by the authorities, foreign workers began to leave the country. But it didn't spell the end for the sport, in that same year a team formed exclusively of Syrians, including Mohamad Jarkou, won the Men's Gulf Open at the Dubai Sevens tournament. Mohamad then formed the Syrian High Rugby Committee and set about growing the game, he is now the General Secretary of Syrian Rugby. He's been speaking to Tim O'Callaghan about how the sport thrived in a country that had become engulfed by civil war. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive and testimony. Sporting Witness is for those fascinated by sporting history. We take you to the events that have shaped the sports world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes, you become a fan in the stands as we take you back in time to examine memorable victories and agonising defeats from all over the world. You'll hear from people who have achieved sporting immortality, or those who were there as incredible sporting moments unfolded.Recent episodes explore the forgotten football Women's World Cup, the plasterer who fought a boxing legend, international football's biggest ever beating and the man who swam the Amazon river. We look at the lives of some of the most famous F1 drivers, tennis players and athletes as well as people who've had ground-breaking impact in their chosen sporting field, including: the most decorated Paralympian, the woman who was the number 1 squash player in the world for nine years, and the first figure skater to wear a hijab. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the tennis player who escaped the Nazis, how a man finally beat a horse in a race, and how the FIFA computer game was created.(Photo: The Damascus Zenobians celebrating their win at the Dubai Sevens in 2011.
