We hear warnings that unless we see some serious rain, England will be in drought next year. The Environment Agency says there will be widespread impacts on farming as well as nature and describes the current situation as 'precarious'. COP 30, the annual world meeting on tackling climate change is underway in Brazil. This one is notable perhaps for the leaders who've skipped it, neither the Chinese or American presidents are attending, but plenty of farmers are.All this week we are looking at growing mushrooms. We hear from a farming family in Leicestershire producing 25 tonnes of woodland mushrooms every week. Over the winter most of the sweetcorn, radishes, spring onions and chilli peppers sold by supermarkets will come from two farms in northern Senegal. The businesses involved say it's a win-win arrangement for the local communities, and more vegetables for the UK market are likely to be grown there in future.Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

Ange Postecoglou has been written off as Nottingham Forest manager by fans and guests on Forest Focus. With an international break winding down and Sean Dyche touted a successor, do we all have to give one more shot to get it right, starting with the Premier League game against Chelsea? If any podcast regulars are going to back him it's Greg Mitchell and Emily Williamson. Matt Davies gets their takes to see if they agree on Postecoglou (they don't). We also discuss the decline in supporter morale and ticket sales as the Porto game in the Europa League goes to general sale. We ask if it is a mistake to want to a 45,000 capacity City Ground. #nffc #nottinghamforest
Nottingham Forest fans are worried about their club and whether Ange Postecoglou is the right man to be manager. In fact plenty want him out after just seven games. Matt Davies is joined by TNT Sports commentator Adam Summerton and the i paper's chief football writer Daniel Storey to go in depth on the current situation as we ask if not Ange then who? In this episode of the show, Jamie and Stu discuss India v Pakistan at the Asia Cup, the white-ball series between South Africa & England, NZ A's tour to South Africa and the NZC casual contracts that leave the Black Caps with some tough decisions in the build up to the T20 World Cup. We start the show by talking about India's dominant performance against Pakistan in the Asia Cup group stage. We talk about India's depth and the balance that their two brilliant allrounders - Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel - provide, as well as the impressive contributions of the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Saim Ayub's bowling was a bright spot for Pakistan in what was otherwise a tough day at the office for Mike Hesson's side. Next we move to the final stages of the English home summer to discuss a damp end to the white-ball series against South Africa, which saw a return to form for England's batters in between the rain. After scores of 400 in an ODI then 300 in a T20, it wasn't hard to hand out praise, with Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell in particular our topics of conversation. We also look back at a full international summer from Jofra Archer and try to make sense of a very full domestic calendar. We round out the show with a Black Caps focus - first a NZ A performance against South Africa which put the likes of Rhys Mariu, Dale Phillips, Curtis Heaphy, Adi Ashok and Matt Fisher in the spotlight, before running through NZ Cricket's decision to hand out five casual contracts to Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Lockie Ferguson, Devon Conway and Kane Williamson. Does Kane's inclusion mean we might see him at the T20 World Cup? And did you realise the NZ home international summer is only two weeks away? Finally, we mention Gary Stead's new gig in the Ranji Trophy, and shout out Leicestershire for gaining promotion in the County Championship. We'll be back in your feed again next week to discuss more stories from the world of cricket, including the Asia Cup & more from England and New Zealand - maybe even some Australia A v India A content. This time on Basic Folk, we are checking in with country singer-songwriter and Color Me Country radio host Rissi Palmer and Americana country artist Miko Marks. The two close friends both came up as Black women in country music in the early part of the 21st century where they experienced gatekeepers and discrimination in the industry, but undeniable love from listeners. Both stepped away from music for several years, but have since come back and found their audiences, artistic grooves, and industry independence. We last spoke with the pair in 2023 (you gotta go listen to that convo if ya missed it!) and have wanted them back on ever since!Rissi and Miko dive into who they think is making waves and positive change in country and Americana. We talk about rising pop-country singer Adell Tanner and her 2023 hit "Buckle Bunny," a song that's clearly written for a different kind of country music fan (read: young Black women). Rissi mentions having Mississippi country sensation KIRBY on her show recently and promises her upcoming 'Miss Black America' to be a monster of an album. There was a lot of consensus on the podcast that Madeline Edwards has released the best album of 2025 with her record 'Fruit,' where she digs into the extreme grief and extreme joy she experienced after her brother passed away.Elsewhere, we also touch on the pair's experiences at Rhiannon Giddens' inaugural Biscuits & Banjos fest in Durham earlier this year, an event dedicated to reclamation and exploration of Black music. We talk about Alice Randall's new compilation, 'My Black Country - The Songs of Alice Randall,' a collection of Randall compositions recorded by Black women – including selections performed by both Miko and Rissi. We talk about audiences in London versus the US, a contrast BF co-host Lizzie as well as Rissi and Miko have experienced first hand. In fact, Rissi has been curating a Color Me Country stage at The Long Road Festival in Leicestershire, England for the past four years. We hope you learn something new, get some insight into what's happening in Americana for musicians who are Black, and gain some joy from listening to Rissi and Miko's hilarious banter.Follow Basic Folk on social media: https://basicfolk.bio.link/Sign up for Basic Folk's newsletter: https://bit.ly/basicfolknewsHelp produce Basic Folk by contributing: https://basicfolk.com/donate/Interested in sponsoring us? Talk Art live! As part of the Nevill Holt Festival 2025, Talk Art hosted a live podcast recording with special guest Harland Miller. From the Nevill Holt Theatre, the world-renowned artist Miller joined Russell Tovey and Robert Diament in conversation to discuss his paintings and lifetime of art making. The Nevill Holt Festival is an annual celebration of arts and culture held in the Leicestershire countryside. Recorded on 12th June 2025, in front of a sold out audience.Artist and writer Harland Miller's (born 1964) polychromatic and graphically vernacular paintings have garnered a devoted following. Infused with irreverent northern English humour and refined by his lifelong love of language, Miller's work synthesises references from both high and low culture, spanning literature, music, self-help manuals and medieval iconography.Attesting to his deep-rooted engagement with the narrative, aural and typographical possibilities of language, Miller expressed, ‘People read before they can stop themselves, it's automatic. Words offer a way into what you're looking at, but no matter how integrated the text is, no matter how much you might think it's synthesised into the painting, there is this imbalance in terms of how much the words are doing as words.'Follow: @NevillHoltFestivalVisit: https://nevillholtfestival.com/Learn more about Harland's paintings: https://www.whitecube.com/artists/harland-millerFollow us on Instagram: @TalkArt

Send us a textKate Turner's journey into motorsports breaks every conventional rule in the racing handbook. At 21 years old, this track instructor from Leicestershire discovered her passion for racing not as a child karting prodigy, but as a 17-year-old who simply woke up one day and decided she wanted to be a race car driver. Her refreshing candor about this unconventional path reveals that sometimes the most extraordinary journeys begin with nothing more than pure determination.Working daily with automotive royalty - Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, and her dream car, the Nissan GTR - Kate guides drivers around prestigious circuits throughout the UK. She shares riveting stories from the passenger seat, including heart-stopping moments with overconfident customers and the systematic dismissal she sometimes faces as a young woman in a male-dominated field. Her response to a particularly difficult customer on International Women's Day demonstrates both her quick thinking and her commitment to commanding respect in challenging situations.Despite competing internationally in Sweden with electric Minis, financial constraints temporarily paused Kate's racing career after 2023. Now, she's actively pursuing sponsorship for a 2026 comeback in the UK's Fun Cup endurance series while balancing plans to study neuroscience at university. Her story highlights motorsport's greatest challenge - securing financial backing - while showcasing the incredible community that makes racing unique. As Kate explains, the paddock atmosphere creates friendships that cross competitive lines and national boundaries, a camaraderie unlike any other sport. 2025 TOUR TICKETS www.thisparanormallife.com Leicester is famous for many things; it's football club… cheese… OK that's pretty much it. But what about HUMAN SACRIFICE? It sounds far-fetched and yet like much of ancient Britain the land was once ruled by pagans, many of whom practiced a druidic religion which may have involved human sacrifice. Some say it's because of that ancient history that Leicester's Humber Stone has come to be cursed. Ghost sightings, spontaneous combustion, and possession have all been reported in this small region of Leicestershire. What is going on? And is it paranormal? It's time for Rory and Kit to find out. Anthony Elanga is set to leave Nottingham Forest for Newcastle United (although this podcast was recorded before that news broke so you might want to skip from 6mins 30secs to 12mins or so). When he does go they will need a top quality replacement and at least one more winger with Ramon Sosa on the brink of joining Palmerias. With that in mind, Pete Blackburn and Dan Cook have picked out eight possible new arrivals. Johan Bakayoko and Malick Fofana are on the list and have already been linked but we have some alternatives who haven't been considered at all. We also discuss the news former Arsenal man Edu has officially joined Nottingham Forest and the wider group under Evangelos Marinakis. #nffc
