Timestamps and Key Topics [00:00] Introduction, Angela welcomes Liz Earle. [03:29] Starting with self-care, why midlife women must prioritise health. [05:09] Navigating hormones, balancing through diet and lifestyle. [08:14] Generational shifts, self-care awareness differences. [11:08] Evening routines, tips for a calmer mind at night. [13:45] Thriving mindset, embracing change and resilience. [17:30] Gut health, strategies for a healthy microbiome. [21:00] Skin and beauty, graceful ageing tips. [24:35] Midlife relationships, redefining roles and boundaries. [28:10] Takeaways, practical health tips. BEST MOMENTS "I think the key is to start with yourself. You have to prioritise you. You have to make a commitment right at the beginning that you are worth it." "I think it's all about trying to get your body to work in a better, younger way for you. So rather than try and impose something else on your skin or your body and force it into doing something, I think to give it the tools to do it for itself is a more successful option." "Using collagen to support bones and joint health, I think is really useful. And I also add things like powdered bone broth to my coffee and shakes and yogurt and soup and anything." "My years working in wellbeing have taught me that it's about living life in a daily, achievable balance. The one thing that counts above all else? Consistency. It doesn't have to be much and it doesn't have to be hard, but it does have to be consistent." —Liz Earle, author of A Better Second Half: Dial back your age to live a longer, healthier, happier life — Sharing my secrets to looking and feeling better than ever With forty's arrival five years ago, I gradually began to see subtle, very subtle changes in my skin, hair and physical body; however, as someone who has always been curious at a young age about staying healthy regarding what I eat, how I care for my body and skin, etc., I wasn't necessarily surprised, but I also knew I wanted to become even more of a student learning how to best take care of my entire body and mind to prevent anything I did have control over, delay anything that while inevitable, need not be sped up by ignorant lack of care-taking, as well as prolong the quality of my living experience as cognitive and physical health and strength are key components to deepening the quality of everyday living, connections, opportunities, etc. Ever the student, I ask questions incessantly, of any expert in their field I have the good fortune to work with, interview or schedule sessions with, and when I don't know someone personally, I reach for books written by experts who have done research in their field of study. As well, reading content by someone, a woman, in this instance who has experienced and lived and is living through the changes of our body and skin and mind, has tried and knows what works in a healthy approach is very much looking up to a wise sister, aunt or mother. So when I learned that Liz Earle, a long-time veteran in the sustainable beauty and wellbeing arena beginning in the early 80s, she, now in her early 60s and not only looking amazing but is living an amazingly full and inspiring life (here is her personal IG account), had written a new book that is already a Sunday Times bestseller, but more importantly, it is worthy of that achievement because it is a book full of nuggets of valuable information to give you the keys to indeed living a better second half of your life, I purchased it, and read it in two nights. Now, I would like to share an introduction to 11 nuggets of valuable information she shares, and if these speak to you as well, I am confident you will appreciate all that the book includes. BEST MOMENTS "I think the key is to start with yourself. You have to prioritise you. You have to make a commitment right at the beginning that you are worth it." "I think it's all about trying to get your body to work in a better, younger way for you. So rather than try and impose something else on your skin or your body and force it into doing something, I think to give it the tools to do it for itself is a more successful option." As we come to the end of a very exciting season eight, I wanted to personally share all the learnings I've learned from the last 12 episodes. I feel incredibly honoured as the host of this podcast to sit down and have inspiring, emotional conversations with such a diverse range of people. I've learned so much after eight seasons, but even more especially after these 12 episodes because this season we took a real, drive focus by increasing our production and going to every single guest's house all over the country. And through that, being in their homes, connecting to them more personally, not only do I remember all of those conversations, but I really felt a sense that they opened up to me more as well. I feel really privileged and honoured. And for that reason, I wanted to end the series with a solo episode with all the things I've learned personally. We spoke with people from Professor David Nutt who looks at psychedelics and how we can actually wire our brain, to how the epicentre of our health is our gut health, and through entrepreneurial women such as Liz Earle, she taught me how we can engineer our own serendipity. So all of my findings and learnings, I am going to bring to you today to end series 8. If there's anything you learned personally, please do let me know - I always love hearing from everyone who listens to the podcast. Send me an email or send me a DM. What makes a brand like Hush Homewear stand out from the thousands of fashion and e-commerce businesses out there? Yes it's the quality and style of the clothes, but it's also another key element that makes them truly one-of-a-kind — and that's the brand. If you want to know the secret to building an identity that makes thousands of customers return again and again, and remain loyal to you for life, hear Mandy Watkins' hard won wisdom on the subject... Mandy started her laid back clothing and lifestyle brand from the kitchen table back in 2003 with a redundancy cheque, a huge dose of ambition and a desire for warmer clothes. Growing up in Australia, Mandy spotted a gap in the market after moving to the UK where she struggled to find relaxed, stylish and cosy clothing suited to living in our changeable climate. After years of perseverance, determination and orders ever so slowly trickling through, Hush started to become a recognised and successful brand. However Mandy opens up about how her business' success was by no means easy, and explains the different routes to market she took in order to achieve the sales she so desperately wanted. Now, after having such a strong identity in the clothing industry, Mandy explains how she has not only built and maintained her brand, but also why as a small business you have the power to make sure the brand heart of your business is beating louder than ever, which as Mandy shares, is a game changing advantage if used effectively. Holly and Mandy share a passionate belief in sustainability, responsible consumer shopping and the positive effect that a work ethic can have on achieving your dreams. It is apparent that Mandy is, and always has been her true authentic self, and might that have had an effect on her business? You'll have to listen to find out… If you enjoyed this conversation, you might also enjoy Holly's episode with Liz Earle, founder of Liz Earle.
