Dr Robert Ayers Occupational Health Physician with OSF Healthcare, joined WKEI on Wednesday morning to talk about the latest COVID-19 headlines. Among the topics on the agenda were so-called COVID-19 breakthrough cases, cases of COVID-19 among people who have been vaccinated. What we know is that these cases are very few and that those who do get COVID-19 after being vaccinated have rarely, if it all, suffered severe symptoms or had to be hospitalized. The COVID-19 vaccine doesn't kill COVID-19, it lessens the impact of getting COVID-19 by rendering the symptoms less severe. Thus, yes, you can still get COVID-19 but having the vaccine virtually prevents the virus from leading to hospitalization or death. Also in this conversation, Dr Ayers discussed how people who have had COVID-19 and are now vaccinated may not have to worry about COVID-19 again. In fact, they may not even need booster shots like many will need eventually.
Dr Robert Ayers with OSF Healthcare was our guest on Tuned In on Monday morning. With the Henry and Stark County County Health Department now holding a Johnson and Johnson one shot clinic we asked Dr Ayers to tell us about the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Henry and Stark County residents 18 years and older can now register for the vaccine and the number of people getting their first dose is on the rise. This is good news but there is also concern about a COVID resurgence in many parts of the state as well. Bottom line, get vaccinated so we can get back to normal. And finally, Tuesday is International Doctor's Day. Be sure to thank a doctor on Tuesday and considering what has happened over the last year, we can be generous with those thank yous.
Dr Robert Ayers from OSF Healthcare joined WKEI to discuss the latest news regarding COVID-19. According to Dr Ayers, OSF Healthcare just received another 500 doses of vaccine from the Health Department and will be working on getting more patients vaccinated. Meanwhile, about 14% of Henry County has received at least one dose of vaccine, 15% of Stark County has been vaccinated thus far. The Health Department has another first dose clinic registration going on on Monday morning. The Astra Zeneca vaccine is ready to face the FDA for emergency use authorization but Dr Ayers says we likely won't see the Astra Zeneca vaccine in Illinois until May, at the earliest.
Dr Robert Ayers joined WKEI on Tuned In on Monday morning to talk about the latest on the COVID-19 vaccine and the progress being made in Henry County in getting everyone vaccinated. We also discussed the latest COVID-19 related headlines, vaccine reluctance and COVID-19's so-called 'Long Haulers,' Those who had COVID-19 and are still dealing with the lingering effects of COVID-19 long after their infection with the virus has ended.
Dr Robert Ayers with OSF Healthcare joined WKEI on Monday on Tuned In with the latest on COVID-19. More doses are coming. It's still slower than we'd like but the Health Department is putting out everything they can for first and second dose clinics. Meanwhile, an unexpected piece of good news, it appears that handwashing, social distance and wearing a mask has limited the spread of the Flu in 2021. Only one death thus far in Illinois has been attributed to Flu, a number that is very low on average for the state of Illinois.

They are not taking calls or appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations but they are reaching out to elderly, high risk, patients and inviting them to come get vaccinated as their supply arrives. Dr Ayers also discussed confusion and concern regarding pregnancy and vaccination and stated that there are no known adverse effects on pregnancy from vaccination.

Dr Robert Ayers from OSF Healthcare joined WKEI on Monday's edition of Tuned In to discuss the latest news regarding COVID-19. Among the topics was why it has taken so long to get the vaccine out into the public. The reality is that the supply of vaccine has been slow to move.
