Carly Thornock - Intentional House Episode 50Meet Carly from Intentional House:I’ve taught at the university level, I’ve spoken around the nation at conferences, I’ve designed multi million dollar projects, and I’ve been featured across the globe in written publications, but my favorite thing is teaching moms who are DOING and LOVING right at home, right now. While I earned my Master’s in Marriage, Family, and Human Development, I was hit over the head with the realization that home was actually most beautiful when considered as a support to the families that actually live REAL life in them. My research dives into how a house’s architecture and design (as well as how we THINK about those things) affect positive family relationships. When not going on rock/bug collection walks or experimenting with yogurt batches, I can be found binge reading Brené Brown's volumes with lots of blankets, practicing handstands with my kiddos (I’m determined), watching Star Trek with my husband (who knew?), and restarting my DuoLingo Spanish streak. There is never a dull moment around the Thornock home, and for that reason we’ve intentionally selected dull corners on all our furniture.I love getting to know people and talking about cool housey family designey stuff.Episode Covers:1) Carly's educational background that led her to starting "Intentional House"2) How YOU have the power to create an experience within your home.3) Three ways to inspire wonder in your home.Connect with Carly:Instagram : www.instagram.com/intentionalhouse/Facebook: www.facebook.com/intentionalhouseWebsite : www.intentionalhouse.com https://prettysimplesarah.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Carly-Intentional-House-Episode.mp3

Brian and Diane Thomas Episode 46This is the PixPad. It was created three years ago by Brian and Diane Thomas when Diane asked Brian to find her an attractive tablet stand for her iPad, one that she wouldn’t mind seeing around the house even when she wasn’t using it. They couldn’t find one, so Brian and his son Matt set out to build one. It took several tries (“too ugly”, “too bulky”) but eventually they decided to combine a picture frame and a tablet stand / phone stand into one.Late last year, Brian and Diane decided to create a company called Frame & Function to make their new creation, officially called the PixPad, available to everyone. They have 11 different designs, available at local gift shops and on their website www.pix-pad.com. (We tried to get www.pixpad.com without the hyphen but the person who owns the address wanted $100,000 for the name!)Put your 4x6 photo in the picture frame and simply rest your tablet, phone, or book on the front. The PixPad adjusts to four different angles. It holds your tablet, phone, or book at just the right angle – perfect for streaming video in bed, reading a recipe on the kitchen counter, or for video calls or browsing the web. And when you are not using it, you still have a beautiful picture frame! It makes a great gift for your parents – it makes video calls a lot more pleasant when you are not looking up your Dad’s nose or at your parents ceiling!Brian is a US Navy veteran and Frame & Function is a veteran-owned small family business. Diane makes all the color and design decisions (thank goodness), son Matt does all the photography and video production, son Alex works in QC and shipping, and the youngest son Logan helps out in a variety of ways.Episode Covers:1. Jennifer Episode 30Jen wasn’t born to be a Wardrobe Stylist. In fact, she had a love/hate relationship with clothes. She loved them, but the feeling wasn’t mutual. She struggled with my weight growing up and had a difficult body type to dress. Pants were too tight in the waist, but the legs were clown-like. Tops pulled across my broad shoulders. She wanted so badly to wear the styles girls around me were wearing, but no matter how much she bought (or how much she exercised and dieted), she could never pull my look together.A twist of fate brought her to work at Chico’s, and her life was changed forever. On the first day on the job, she was taught the 4 Basic Body Types, and how to dress each one. A lightbulb went off and she realized her body wasn’t strange, or malformed, or weird…it was just an Apple. A totally normal, if not super common, shape. It wasn’t her body that was wrong, it was the pants she was buying. Once she discovered HOW to dress her body, her love affair with clothes was on! Oh, and she also learned how to do the same for others. Her time at Chico’s, she personally dressed thousands of women. She went on to work for a chain of high-end boutiques and Gap Maternity before leaving the corporate world when she had my daughter. There isn’t a body or wardrobe challenge she hasn’t seen!Jen started her own styling business in 2012 with the mission to take the mystery and stress out of getting dressed, and help women build stylish, cohesive wardrobes that make them look and feel fabulous.Episode Covers:The inspiration behind starting Your Everyday StyleWhat is a capsule wardrobe?Buying more clothes isn't the answer. Through this proven system, his life coaching and leadership training have helped hundreds of people create a 6-figure income by launching and building their own businesses. Todd focuses his energy on guiding people along their journey by creating a step by step plan, designed to help them find and achieve their true purpose. This proud father of 3, married to his beautiful wife Kristin and is here to leave a strong footprint, not only for his family but for people all over the world. In You vs You, author Todd Cahill starts with a simple premise: As people strive for any improvement in their lives—whether it's more income, a better relationship, a promotion, a bigger business, or a better body—the most important battles they will face are against themselves. People invite problems into their lives through poor choices, apathy, indecision, arrogance, anxiety, selfishness, and other traits they would rather not discuss but must be addressed. Cahill shares what he has learned about these battles that either keep people from success and significance or usher them to victory. As a life coach and leadership trainer, he has taught thousands of people these lessons, and many of them are now experiencing a level of personal achievement, relational abundance, and financial freedom they never thought possible. People often self-sabotage if they're not mindful, wise, and willing. Cahill reinforces the idea that readers can choose today to fight against who they once were (or are) and become who they are made to be. You vs You is about that choice and the challenging, rewarding quest that ensues. Bill Worley EPISODE 5Bill Worley (aka Doc Worley) is best known for starting the Business Journal Magazine. He was a natural hard worker and entrepreneur at a young age. I feel so lucky to have known Doc Worley, my best friend's dad, for the last thirty years. Doc talks about the importance of family and faith. My favorite part of the interview is when he reads his beautiful letter on how to live a happy, productive and more serene life to his daughter Alexis.  "You must cultivate an attitude of gratitude." "Anything is possible if you take it one bite at a time." Letter to his daughter, Alexis - May 20, 2013.  Alexis,When you were home for Mother's Day you asked me to write down what I told you regarding the folly of trying to control things over which you have no control. I have expanded that request --- here it is ----Three suggestions to help you to live a happy, productive and more serene life.  First, accept the fact that almost all of the things that happen to you and seem, at the time, like a disaster, will, given time ...turn out to be beneficial to you. I believe this is due to the Lord working in mysterious ways which we don't and can't understand. It may seem hard to believe but if you look back at the events that have occurred in your life, which you felt were awful, then examine the present results you will find this is true. The hard part is to remember this fact, in a calm manner, at the time of the apparent disaster.  Second, as you have frequently heard, you must cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Always try to frame your thoughts with grateful feelings toward the everyday happenings as well as the exceptional events. With the life we have been given (and partially earned) it is easy to find multiple things for which to be grateful on an almost constant basis.  The first two things are to do. The last is one not to do. Don't allow your thoughts on how another person or entity reacts to any situation upset you. This is the fools errand of trying to control that over which you have little or no control. The examples are legion, all of the; he should have, I would have, it's stupid to do it that way, one included. You are perfectly free to think or even say whatever you want, but never allow yourself to become emotionally involved - hurt - angry - disappointed or whatever - when someone or something doesn't line up to your expectations concerning their behavior. Additionally, remember if you feel the need to express your thoughts regarding what was not done to your standards a reaction of some sort will probably occur. This gives you something else to criticize and the result is a nice moment of DRAMA. Bottom line, if it's not something you are in charge of (like your own behavior) don't try to control it.  This "not to do" is more difficult than the first two "to dos" but just as important.  Keep this in your top drawer for easy reference and remember Your Daddy Loves You.   http://prettysimplesarah.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/bill-worley.mp3
