Tampa Bay Buccaneers Make Some Roster Moves | Bigger Problem: Injuries Or Penalties? | MOCKtober

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made some roster moves on Monday, releasing wide receiver and return specialist Jaydon Mickens which can mean only one thing - it's Jaelon Darden time. In addition to the release of Mickens, the Bucs activated offensive lineman John Molchon. There were also some practice squad moves, with the Buccaneers releasing outside linebacker Elijah Ponder and signing long time cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson, who spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons. Wreh-Wilson will likely get a crash course in the defense in case the Bucs have to call on him to join the active roster, given all the injuries they're dealing with. Mailbag time as we had a string of questions sent in from Mad Dog. We dive into the discussion as to what the bigger problem for the Bucs is right now - penalties or injuries. We've talked non-stop about the injury problems, but the Bucs are among the NFL's worst in penalties, being called for the second most in the league while having the most penalty yards of any team. Then again, is one affecting the other? More discussion as to whether or not O.J. Howard should be dealt - especially now, coming off a solid performance in week six - for some help in the secondary. Or is it time to start talking about trading Cameron Brate? If it were up to us, would we be willing to announce Todd Bowles or Byron Leftwich as Bruce Arians' successor, protecting them from the rest of the NFL? Or when Arians retires will it be time to look for an overhaul within the building? Finally, it's never too early to start talking mock drafts, right? Of course not! That's why they call it Mocktober! There are some NFL mock drafts floating around so we thought it would be fun to see what positions the NFL Draft folks are starting to look towards for the Buccaneers through six weeks of the NFL season. o Pre-Order or Get Your Copy of "A Season In The Sun" Starting October 19th: https://bit.ly/2Z679aG o Follow & Subscribe to the Locked On Bucs Podcast on these platforms… Apple: https://apple.co/3iOePFk Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3BwlScY Audacy: https://bit.ly/3FAcIhV Google: https://bit.ly/2X0IEdS Megaphone: https://bit.ly/3uZOcSo o Follow Locked On Podcast Network on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LockedOnNetwork Check out all of our NFL Coverage: linktr.ee/lockedonnfl Follow James on Twitter: https://twitter.com/JYarcho_BUCS Follow David on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DHarrison82 o Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers turn the page towards Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, we get our first injury report of the new week. Lavonte David, Rob Gronkowski, Ryan Jensen, Tom Brady, Chris Godwin, Jason Pierre-Paul, Giovani Bernard, Antonio Brown, Jamel Dean, and Ryan Succop headline a star-studded injury report for the Bucs. For the Eagles, Derek Barnett, Dallas Goedert, Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata, and Landon Dickerson all start the week on the injury report as well. It's not likely all of those contributors will miss time for the Buccaneers, but it's equally likely they'll have to play on a short week without at least a couple of them. All of this is beginning to set the stage Tom Brady will lead the Tampa Bay offense back onto the field, looking for yet another personal best for two weeks in a row, and another piece of NFL history. With four touchdown passes on Thursday night, Brady would become the first quarterback in NFL history to reach 600 career touchdown passes. Helping him reach that milestone are three star wide receivers (Mike Evans, Godwin, and Brown) who need under 60-yards a game each to give the Bucs three 1,000-yard receivers in 2021. As the Tampa Bay offense starts looking more and more like the late 2020 version which helped carry the team to a Super Bowl win, another big performance in Week 6 would give a big jump in confidence this team can weather all the injuries it's suffered thus far. They won't be pushing the Buccaneers towards victory alone, but it's nice to know a team can lean on their offense to score in bunches when the defense needs them to. Still, a lot of credit should be given to Todd Bowles and his position coaches, for producing a defense that has held three of their five opponents to 25 points or less this season, despite the laundry list of injuries suffered on that side of the ball. We talk about all of this, and more, on today's episode of the Locked On Bucs Podcast! The biggest game in the history of sports (that actually doesn't have that big an impact on the standings) was played in Foxboro on Sunday night, as Tom Brady played kinda O.K. in a game that his current team won against his former team after a last-minute field goal attempt bounced off the upright. Should Bill Belichick have gone for it on fourth down? Hypothetically, would Mac Jones have gotten it done against Todd Bowles and the Bucs' shorthanded secondary? Will we talk about this game forever and ever? Maybe. Then, a discussion of the undefeated Cardinals, the difference between the 2020 and '21 editions, and whether or not this year's early success is sustainable. Plus, everything that's going so very right for the Cowboys, the Giants finally show what Daniel Jones can become if they let him, the Browns are dominating with the defensive line, the 49ers don't show much in Trey Lance's first extended action, the Steelers look ugly as ever, and a very neat day for Zach Wilson. Having all the key players coming back for the Bucs has a lot to do with playing with Tom Brady. What he did in an era of Covid-19 where no players can practice together, what Brady did in his first season with the Bucks is incredible. Bruce Arians adjusted nicely and Todd Bowles and the defense were absolutely incredible. Expect something very special in 2021 with Tampa, not just in 2020. It of course started with Devin White, who made two great hits that got a big reaction from the crowd. There was also another sack from Joe Tryon among a couple others that they also break down. Offensively, it was another big day for Antonio Brown, but there was also really nice performances from wide receivers that are on the bubble for the last spot on the depth chart at an insanely talented position. That's what the Pick Six Superfriends are here to do on this day-after edition of Pick Six. Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech offer a deeper dive on Super Bowl LV. They focus on the defining moments of the game with a focus on the sequence of events before halftime. The game plans of Eric Beinemy and Todd Bowles are also examined as there was a clear-cut winner in that matchup of minds. Is Rob Gronkowski vs. Travis Kelce now settled? Gronk's performance may prevent Kelce from ever claiming "best tight end of all time" status. Right now, the social media space is heating up with all the talk about Todd Bowles being a head coach. Why is it that when a team gets into the Superbowl, the coordinators, offesive, defensive, are then almost expected to be ready to be head coaches somewhere? And more so, like Todd Bowles of Tampa Bay or Eric Bieniemy of Kansas City, why all this distinction about race? Really? Isn't it about that quality of coaching that person brings to the table and then demonstrates in an interview? Enough about it already. Let's give the consideration to the most talented and likely to succeed. Right now there are many black assistant coaches, coordinators and other personnel in the league and each and every one of them deserves the opportunity to grow into the next position of advancement. But let's, please, evaluate talent on the basis of skill and all the other attributes of great coaches as opposed to just expecting that since they got to the Superbowl that they deserve to be a head coach. Oh boy, I have more to say in today's podcast. This one really fires me up!

A whole lot of narratives got turned sideways on Super Bowl Sunday, as the Bucs outclassed the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. Conor and Gary, being the pessimists they are, start with what went wrong. Andy Reid had two weeks to prepare and knew he'd be doing so without his starting tackles. Yet, K.C. did nothing to help their O-line out against a dominant Bucs pass rush, leaving Patrick Mahomes to get absolutely battered. Give a ton of credit to Todd Bowles, who had a formula that worked. Tampa's front four took over the game, and the back end more than held its own against K.C.'s game-breaking receiving options. We also look ahead to the offseasons for both teams. The Bucs have to make decisions on a number of free agents, most notably Chris Godwin and Shaq Barrett. Barrett is in line to set the market for pass rushers, while Godwin could end up the odd man out among Tampa's receivers. As for the Chiefs, how worried should they be about an ugly performance in Super Bowl LV? Plus, Michael Fabiano stops by to talk 2021 outlook for Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Leonard Fournette and more.
